Theres perfectly good reasons for it to be serious rather than silly. I dont really like the idea, but I'd certainly give it a go.

AvA...in-fighting? Animosity, as it were? When they run out of humans to bite and swallow, maybe they turn on each other.

The Aliens in Aliens films turned on each other to help escape, but unfortunately Kharaa dont have acid blood <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Theres always a logical reason, and I think it should be serious because it can be - NS really takes its pride in being "realistic to itself" or however you wanna put it, or I think it has anyway.

Hmmm... how do you trigger the 'team 1 wins' when they destroy the team 3 CC then? That's the part that I'm still confused about. And is it possible to set everything to team 3, and what happens then?

You mean to tell me that the American, British and Russian soldiers of WWII aren't "the good guys" simply because they fought their fellow man? Get real. Humans have been at war with each other since the dawn of civilization, and I don't see why a sci-fi setting shouldn't reflect this.

Augh! Go make a thread in the general forum if you want to discuss backstory or the moral dilemma of man vs. man. I just want to hear the technical details of how it's done in a map! This IS the mapping forum, after all.

Agreed bob, i'll take this to pms.

Also bob you were asking how you trigger team 1 wins, when they destroy team 3's cc. Surely this is just a logical step to look at whos cc has not been destroyed which would be done in game. Though what i'm curious about is how mr bill said that although one cc is named team three, everything else stays the same. Does that mean the team join for team three is targeted at team 2 <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

If you type "jointeamtwo" in console, you'll be taken to team 3 (Mendasp said so anyway <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->), so yes, probably.

strange... i still dont' know how that works...

to lazy to read the whole thing so don't know if this has been mentioned before but if you make team 1 marine with a modification that makes team 1 marine glow blue and team 3 marine glow green then people can tell apart except that it would be easy to see where the marines are. or something like tfc.

It's a bit of an odd effect, but it works very well.

I was playing on ReadyRoom server a few minutes ago, and I managed to get most people to do it... It requires fun mode to be on.
  • GuspazGuspaz Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2862Members, Constellation
I've written some guideline rules for servers to make co_sillyv3 really fun:

    <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=8&t=67743' target='_blank'>http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...=ST&f=8&t=67743</a>

It's basically a no-welding rule and a you-must-glow rule, it solves both of the "bugs" with MvM gameplay.

Playing MvM without the glowing is pretty, well, pointless <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

It should work with AdminMod, or AMX mod. I saw the glowing used to good effect with AdminMod; the admin set fun mode on, then everybody bound keys to "say glow green" or "say glow blue" and then hit the key every time they spawned.

With the new steam download thing, you can make clietns download models..if that helps..
  • GuspazGuspaz Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2862Members, Constellation
Unfortunately that's getting into really custom server stuff... it'd require a plugin for one team's models to be different anyhow.

The glow method only requires amx or adminmod, which almost if not every server has, and an admin present. As in, no permanent changes to the server.

You could also turn on ff to make people <i>want</i> to glow so that their team knows who they are.

K, Ill try to exlpain as clearly as I can on how this works

You got 3 general teams, team 1, 2 and an unused 3, 1 and 2 are both reserved for a specific team (1 = marines 2= aliens), using the info gameplay, or whaterv it is, you can change team 2, to a marines team, but since it's reserved, it gets moved to team 3, heres the trciky part... It's not totaly team 3, nor is it totaly team 2, team 3 is not a compleat team, nor is team 2. So, it ends up being a mix of tteam 2 and team 3.

So the only way to make the map is make a team 2, like you normaly would, spawn points team 2, armories team 2, the works, but its when you come to the comm chair that it's different.
Since its really team 3, team 2 dosn't need a comm chair, it's team 3 that wiill need a comm chair. See what I mean about mixed? the crazy thing is team 2 sees team 3's comm chair as it's comm chair, and yet, it's NOT it's comm chair as you can still destroy it and weld it to death!

The really annoying thing is though, if you try setting everything to team 3, and make a NEW team (3 obviously) the game wont see it and ignore all those spawn points, (that was my idea to fix cc prob, I tested it in many dif ways all failed). The onl way to do this, if you could get the CC's death triggers to work properly (which they don't I've tried) is build team's 2 cc outside to be hurt and activate a trigger hurt on team 3's cc hidden somewhere to destroy it when team 2's get's destroyed, mind you I tried and the damn thing didn't work if anyone else wants to try go ahead.

there that's as clear as I can explain it, in short everything in team 2 stays team 2 cept comm chair.

As for aliens i'm still working on it, I think theres someone else whos got a working version to, i'll check in on that one sometime.

Could you make all of the structures Team 3, then make the spawn points Team 2?

Oh thank god, a non-fullbright map.. at least on this one I will be able to see my HUD out of the corner of my eye(which was a huge problem for me with the other map, unless I concentrated on looking at the HUD I couldn't see what the numbers said).

My NS seems to think this is a classic map, and not a combat map :/
  • MrBillMrBill Join Date: 2004-04-06 Member: 27764Members
If your talking about co_sillyv3, it use's all standard .wads that cs one though (BLASFAMY!) prob use's cs .wads

And The lighting in silly is made for me, it perfect, maybe lower the gamma on your screan <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

and as fro classic and combat map, make sure its named right (co_ not ns_)

There should be a AVA map conming soon,so dont be ready for it.

and its nice to see someone else making a mvm map, mind you Cs style it the TOTALopposite of what i was aiming for, I'd like to seea few ns based maps do it though, but taht's just me <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
