Alright guys, I have CS : CZ - when I try to run any mods, it asks for a CDKey and will not take my CZ key (Ridiculous) I actually HAVE NS (beta) in my steam, and my steams been used enough to actually initialize. When I try to use it, it brings me to a Register Game and Browse games menu. I'm going to attempt to install NS in CZs version of the steam (replace HL with CZ if u will) and follow those instructions. I'll tell you what happens. If anyone knows what is tried and true in this situation, however, do tell.
i try to run beta 5 installer and i get this message.

I can't play ns. I go to connect. and it starts to dl a bunch of stuff. when its done it disconnects me and says I don't have a weaponanimation.sc or something. I could have seen it download that. but I don't know for sure. can someone give me advice? i've reinstalled this thing like 4 times already and it won't work.
well...when my screen blacks out...it usually means my computer crashed and its usually because my computer doesn't have an efficient cooling system so it shuts down by itself....but your problem is most likely a video card that isn't able to process the graphics of ns very well. 2) I assume you managed to get the weaponanim.sc working (if not redownload the file from somewhere else and install)
3) Yes, either you are over heating, or you are getting nondisplayed BSODs
For over heating: 1) Find a program that will run and tell you how hot your CPU is running (just google) 2) Open the case, point a box fan at it and see if it still reboots
For BSOD: meh, to tired to find it, there is an option to force it to display them. Google it.
I would say this is more of a Steam issue, since for some strange reason Steam is refusing to acknowledge that Half-Life exists on my PC. I originally purchased CS:CZ, and installed Steam through that. Later, I downloaded NS 5.0 and installed it into the Steam directory, then tried running it. No go. It just brings up the 'Alternative Games' browser window. After a study of the forums here, I deduce that it's because CZ, (in retrospect, quite logically), can't play any other games except for CS and CZ.
So, after some hunting around in bargain bins at the local comp. shops, I managed to unearth an old copy of Half-Life and installed that. I patched it to 1.1.1.0, then tried transfering NS to its directory. Yay! It runs! D'oh... It says that 5.0 is outdated and then tries to update itself with a non-existent file.
I can only presume that this is because it's still trying to run itself on the old WON servers, and isn't using Steam. So does anybody know how to get Steam to recognise that Half-Life is now installed on your PC? I've tried transfering it into the SteamApps folder, but it still isn't showing up in the menu.

read/follow the entire thing and pay special attn to step 10:
10) If you get any errors (map.bsp, client.dll, or ANYTHING: a) Search your HDD for NS, there should only be a dir called NS in your Steam\SteamApps\Your@email\Half-Life\NS, unless you backed up a previous install.

yes you do need halflife to play. You need to buy it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> And to add a desktop shortcut from steam, go to the Play games section on steam then rightclick on Natural Selection and select "Create desktop Shortcut"

Which installer are you running? The NS Beta 5? Im a little confused on what your doing...You NEED to install it as "NS" in the steam/steamapps/username/hl/ string. If its asking you if you want to overwrite something, click YES to all, or just yes. That most likely means that you had already tried to install it there, and failed somehow. Also, when you started up Half Life to check if it needed an Autopatch, did you start it up with steam or withought it. Steam needs to be active in your Taskbar, and you need to select Half Life from your "My Games" list in steam.
Last but not least, did you download steam, or are you using the one that came with Half Life 2.

I need help. I HAD NSP (yes that is beta 4a .. my clan's server is beta 4a not beta 5) working through HLSW but then I goofed it up out of pure curiosity.

I have 2 key codes and wanted to see if I could register my other key code under another Steam ID (just was curious but never thought it would make me unable to play NS ever again cept thru the Steam menu) and so I did and was sucessful. Then I realized I could not play Natural-Selection thru my new Steam ID so I switched back to my own Steam ID. No big deal I thought. Then suddenly I could no longer play NS or NSP through HLSW anymore... no matter what changes I make it just loads up HL and a blank console ... I don't know how to fix this... and all outta my own curiosity .. damn ...

hello i am not sure how to get NS working on steam where do u find it like i got a Play Games and theres no heading saying 3rd party game and no NS it is currenty there. (Try and play HL through Steam, it will autopatch it)
2) Download Natural Selection Beta 5
3) Install NS Beta 5 into the Half Life Folder in your steam directory so that your
Steam folder now looks like this:
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\(Your Account name Here)\Half Life\NS
(Unless you installed Steam to a different Drive letter, this would be default)
(Make sure Steam isnt running while you install)
4) Run steam and go to the 3rd Party Games Section on your gaming list. Natural
Selection should now be there

when it should just be
steam\username\half-life\
because the installer only wanted to know where you keep Half-Life.. that's all.. if you read the installer it would have said something about that
so CUT the second /NS directory (the one that's inside the original NS directory and paste in the Half-Life directory.. or uninstall and reinstall.
