    dwarven blood... flying dwarven blood.
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
It's too bad blood is not an actual liquid in the game. It would be massively awesome to have a reservoir filled with the blood of all the unfortunate goblin invaders that have futilely assailed your fortress.

I did see some blood flowing down a channel soon after the battle.

Isn't that just "stains" though? This might warrant experimentation...

what is a sand bearing item? Apparently I don't have any and I need them to continue making glass items.

bags? I thought it might be so I tried making raw green glass to free them up, nope, it wants them too...

Yes, bags carry sand. Just don't forget to issue the "gather sand" order from the glass workshop.

Kudos on the stories guys. I'm having a blast reading it.

    please help . . .

ok, well all I want to do before going to bootcamp is play some NS, but every time I join a room, the whole screen goes black and I get this message "Software mod is not supported on Natural Selection" and I get "Doesn't support downloaded gm" someone please help me!

also, I'm still downloading Half-life 1 (its at 85%) could that be it?
  • GwahirGwahir Join Date: 2002-04-24 Member: 513Members, Constellation
    award for best non-sequitur EVER!!!

Shzar, you misunderstood me. I have bags, I have bags filled with sand, I have raw glass, I have magma glass furnaces, I can't make anything glass related and it gives the error: "needs sand-bearing item"
  • AlignAlign Remain Calm Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 5216Forum Moderators, Constellation
Your sand bags must be reserved for a task already then.

what else could bags filled with sand be used for?

And why do I need a bag for making glass blocks?
  • AlignAlign Remain Calm Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 5216Forum Moderators, Constellation
    Usually moving to a stockpile...
You need the bag because you need something to store the sand in, though you then melt the sand (sans bag) into a raw material chunk of glass which can then be made into a block or piece of furniture.
  • GwahirGwahir Join Date: 2002-04-24 Member: 513Members, Constellation
I know I'm not speaking unclearly here... yet you seem to want to misunderstand the situation every time.
  • ShzarShzar Join Date: 2003-09-21 Member: 21098Members, Constellation
All green and clear glass products require a bag of sand. You do not use raw glass to make fancier glass products; raw glass is like a gem in that it can be cut and then used for decoration at a jeweler's workshop.

Gwahir: I recall that there was a bug that made glassmakers ignore any sandbags that had a decoration on them. Dwarves would still gather sand into these decorated bags, but they couldn't be used after that. I'm not sure if the developer has fixed this bug. Perhaps this is the root of your difficulty. In any case, I advise you to make a sandbag-only stockpile next to your glass furnace and forbid sandbags from any other furniture stockpiles you have.
  • GwahirGwahir Join Date: 2002-04-24 Member: 513Members, Constellation
got it, I thought raw glass was a pre-req. I'll clear that out.

    I love the stories!

I don't like playing the game myself, but reading them stories is a great pleasure!

Just reading your story Gwahir, loving it!

I just realized how well my part:

    Awesome.

Btw: In regards to the pump pumping spill magma all over the lower floor: It wasn't that pump specifically I ment should be windmill-powered <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> I just figured that if you wanted to do pumping somewhere else, you shouldn't have to hassle with vomiting dwarfs as I did <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Speaking of madness, "lead is a poisonous metal that can damage nervous connections (especially in young children) and cause blood and brain disorders." And children have a tendency to attempt to ingest their toys.

    Lead toys, who cares.

    I once had a noble who demanded lead mugs every 5 minutes. He lived a happy and long life <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

@scythe Dear God, please dump all coins. I also put myself on the lsit for a 2nd time, cause there seems to be trouble in the fort and someone (me) better fix it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

Indeed, I'll take another swing. I guess that gives me year 8?

Lets just hope that scythe or you don't fail to follow my instructions correctly and flood the fortress.

Of course, even if you do screw up, I put doors in place to prevent flooding. I'm a good engineer.

Sorry for being a bit slow. I've downloaded Gwahir's save and gotten it all loaded up. Played a little bit yesterday, wrote a little bit. I'll try to finish my year tonight, after work.

So... completely unrelated to the goings-on of red rum I know, but this seems to have become the new official dwarf fortress thread so i'll post it here.

I've started a new fort, and its going pretty well so far. I've uncovered quite a staggering amount of gold and gems, and i'm wondering what the best way to use them is. I generally just tell my dwarves to encrust finished goods with the gems (which bizarrely seems to include ropes), but I imagine there are better things I can do with them than encrust trinkets.

I have no idea what to do with the gold. I've been considering holding on to it until the economy starts up so I can mint some coins, but it looks like i've gotten more than enough to spare some for trading. How can I get the most bang for my buck from the traders? They're offering 200% for blocks this year, but I get the impression there are better things I can do with gold than make blocks out of it.
