I demand you engineer this. Red Rum must have a steam room!
So my suggestion is to have floor hatches that have a flow below them. To activate the trap, you pour in water and open the hatches (hatches can be linked with mechanisms) The water will flow through the hatches and form steam. When done, just close the hatches and the water source. probably close the water source first to let it steam off.
so, lets design like this:
b = bridge (retracts) h = hatch p = pressure plate w = water source(above)

in that case, put a grate over the channel and poor a small amount of water into it. For safety, make it double layered. Two levels down is the magma, one down water comes in. on top of both is the grate.

Why did you even queue it up in the first place? WHY WOULD ANYONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND MINT EVEN A SINGLE COIN?? OH ARMOK, WE'RE DOOMED! WE'RE ALL SO COMPLETELY, FUTTERLY UCKINGLY DOOMED!!
I propose we drink dwarven ale nonstop until we all die of alcohol poisoning.
We had 2000+ of each coin type, and the tax collector was complaining, so I figured why not. Haven't gotten as far as an economy in any fort yet, so eh.
Faskalia... you want to wall up the way into the fort by the water wheels? why? It's completely blocked off by moat. (the lowest line of channels. No one can get in that way.
edit: do you think that the water always drains? it doesn't unless you pull the right lever

How is construction of my steam room going? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
Meh, I am done. All coins are designated to be dumped, but that will take a while. We started with 17.5k and are down to 16k in one year. The fort is still running the emergency food program, so check those work orders if you want to get anything done. I upped a working foreman for the DF we are using: <a href="http://rapidshare.de/files/39655013/foreman-0.3.8c.rar.html" target="_blank">http://rapidshare.de/files/39655013/foreman-0.3.8c.rar.html</a>
The steel greaves weren't high quality, hence the melt-designation. If only it was possible to improve the armoring skill of the dungeon master without him actually doing any armoring...
Also I have no idea what's up with our food supply. Never see anyone eat, but there's never any food.
Dear mother of gah! Please fix all spelling/grammar mistakes in Faskilla's posts.

p = pressure plate
w = water source(above)
bbbbbbb
bhhhhhb
bhp phb
bhpwphb
bhp phb

the pressure plates will react to enemies and activate a timing mechanism elsewhere in the fort.
This mechanism raises the bridges to trap whoever is inside and the hatches open along with the water source.
They enemy is trapped for a period of time. Some will fallthrough the hatches, others are killed by steam.

I thought that in a recent update he made it so steam doesn't hurt... I wanted a steam room for my dwarves to hang out in, not a steam trap!

Thankfully it's not mine anymore...
They want us to limit our tree harvesting operations to 100 trees a year.
Now I could agree to this with some added negotiations or I could tell them to shove it.
Personally I'm all for blowing off the diplomat and increasing our wood production.
