This looks interesting... firing up and trying out DF myself..

One question (even though this is not the right place to ask)... how in the world do you determine if there's a magma pipe in the map? So far my guess and hope is ending up with 0 evidence of magma.

This IS the right place to ask.

If a magma pipe/pool is open, then it can be seen on the region map, when embarking. Just look at the world map for the big and evil red Vs. Those are vulcanos and by definition there is bound to be an visible magma pipe somewhere.

You can also use the regional prospector:

Magma vents occur in all igneous extrusive(?) (dark text colour rock type on embark screen) biomes, so you can also find vents far from any volcano.

So I thought I was going to be able to DF tomorrow, but last minute real-life intervened. I don't know if you guys want to give <b>anytime</b> 2 years or postpone till we can get another good run in, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to go at it again.

I'm not going for 2 consequitive turns, I can make my own fort for that, someone else better fit one in.

I think we should've chosen a more difficult area.

I can take over if necessary, but not until after the weekend.

we could always start over, but we should try to get some closure to this one if possible.

I can't decide whether I dare try. I actually have the time now, but I doubt my sluggish pace lends itself well to it.

If no one <b>ABSOLUTELY</b> wants to play/finish I can put it out of it's misery. Something I don't comprehend? I'll just push random keys until something happens. Might even try to post a story.

perhaps, but there's always a tactical retreat.
  • aNytiMeaNytiMe Join Date: 2008-03-31 Member: 64007Members, Constellation
Didn't someone want to take this one up?
  • AlignAlign Remain Calm Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 5216Forum Moderators, Constellation
No, it's too easy. All there's left to do is sandbox buildan.

What about playing dwarf fortress roulette? Each year the ruler changes and must kill off (at least 1) pet until a tantrum cascade occurs. The pet removal should occur in the most elaborate way possible(within the time constraint)

Ok, since most peeps think that its too easy, I propose removing the babyscnatcher tag from goboos.
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
What difference will that make? They won't try to sneak in and get chopped into two gobbos by a large serrated disc, but will instead run around attacking random dorfs?

It makes them send sieges instead of baby snatchers. So we get like 6 sieges a year.
But we'd have to make a new fortress for a raws change to take effect, I believe, so we might as well just choose a more challenging location?

Did you guys have an aquifer? Those are amusingly annoying.

Especially if they're two levels deep and without a magma pipe...
  • GwahirGwahir Join Date: 2002-04-24 Member: 513Members, Constellation
oh I've dealt with aquifers before. Massive pumping that defies the laws of thermodynamics. Of course, getting the materials to make the pumps wasn't fun.

You could also do a no farming society... Just breed cats and hunt and stuff. Survive without the plump helmets! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    that sounds... painful.

I suggest we just find a nice area that's swarming with undead.

Oh yes. No drinkable water made things very exciting when I accidentally embarked on top of a kobold cave.

we really should be able to distill water or at least make cisterns.
