    True, but they can do minor things, like fixing borked lights, or like was already mentioned, fiing those ladders in MS. Simple stuff like that shouldn't be a problem, I think.

    Sure they are simple, but there are a hundred "simple" things to fix, so it adds quite a bit of work on. It's best to do one part at a time (build, then fix).

    In the end it only comes out to each person doing his part of the map to decide how much time they want to spend remaking the minor flaws.

    I think there is nothing wrong with that as it is. It'll just become "another hallway" if you move them things around. Part of the atmosphere of the map. IMO anyway.

    Bast is my all-time favorite map, it captures all the sci-fi aspects from movies like "aliens" in a flawless way.
    Seeing it coming back makes me damn happy, thanks a lot guys, a lot of players will enjoy your hard work.

    keep up the excellent speed !

    pd: remove all the unnecessary ladders and replace them with ramps, onos have a very hard time at it.
    and in the refinery hive, the pipes obstruct the way, forcing onos to duck if they want to pass.

    Well the forums have been down for quite a while which has slowed down our pace abit along with other factors. Anyway whilst the forums were down we did get one piece of very, very good news. I popped an email off to relic25 to ask for his permission, an email i never expected a reply to. We all know that he pretty much just disapeered and no one had been able to contact him.

    Well turns out they're using the wrong email address. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> I happened to have the right one, which i got it from his nightwatch forums profile if your interested, anyway. He replied (yey_ and we have his full support on the ns_bast remake and he said we'd done a fantastic job so far and kudos for stepping up to the task.

    I did ask him if he'd make a comeback to NS and get actively involved with the bast remake however he declined, he currently has other prioteries (his young son for one) so he cannot dedicate any time to NS though he available to us for advise and to answer our questions.

    Also incase you were wondering he told me he didn't leave because of what veterans had said about NS bast. and i quote:

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Just to put any rumors to rest (and you can quote me on this if needed), I didn't 'leave' the NS community over any personal misgivings or anything like that.? It was simply a matter of me having x amount of time and too many other priorities.? <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Well anyway, hope we'll hve no screenies soon, yey for relic living and yey for the forums being back up.

    Loosing bast ain't a big loss... it's crap for marines anyway imho.

    But if you'd take out the turning door thingy outside the base and replaced the elevator with something better to give easier/faster outside access to the marines.. yeah.

    lol! My god, that is SO weird! I was just looking at the Alien Vs Predator teaser trailer and it says, "Whoever Wins... We Lose," and then I thought about how I ALWAYS mispell lose as loose, and then I just came here, and everyone's having a rant about it!

    I always do it because that's almost the way it's pronounced, loo - se. I am trying to overcome this problem <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I don't think you should change that, it's these kind of obstacles that make the map both realistic and more interesting to play.
  • GuspazGuspaz Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2862Members, Constellation
    I think a lot of people are forgetting (about changes to the maps) that this is not a replica of Bast. Nearly every NS map changes between major revisions; look at all the huge changes that was made to maps (like hera) between major revisions.

    This is an update of bast from 1.x -> 3.x, it's going to need/have some major changes. I for one support this. This isn't bast 1.0, it's bast 2.0 <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Lighting changes, all for them, so long as I can still see. Lighting changes really can change the mood of a map, which is what a major revision of the map is meant to do.

    Long time without screenies.

    I had some time this morning, so I started doing the last part of my section... I was amazed because I finished it pretty fast...

    Mayb your not running NS in 32bit mode that could also lower the ingame quality

    Just add -32bpp to hl.exe:

    hl.exe -console -game ns -32bpp

    [edit]
    Almost forgot man!!!

    Medasp that looks nice I can almost eat it <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--><span style='color:gray'> *now wheres my fork*</span>

    Hmm just remembered that steam changes something in the hl dir so the hl.exe is gone and you have to start ns in a weird way <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> ... ah well I think you can add -32bpp to the commandline there. At least I hope so.

    First off, kudos for Mendasp and co. for remaking my all-time favorite NS map...

    I now have a suggestion which is unlikely to be received with much enthusiasm (which I can kind of understand), but here goes:

    How about ... expanding the map after you have remade the old one to perfection?
    For example, what lies behind the doors in that short corridor (N-corridor?). You could decide for yourself by adding a new area or two. Perhaps expand the tram tunnel beyond the point where it is normally blocked, or open the sealed airlock so it goes somewhere?

    Obviously doing something like this runs the risk of breaking the gameplay of the map, so I would suggest that any kind of expanded version be released as a separate map, ns_bastXL or whatever. This would be more of a special edition, rather than an intended replacement for ns_bast. Since you are remaking this cool map, opportunities such as this should not be ignored.

    Expanding the map to accomdate 3.0s gameplay and changes may well happen, who knows. If we don't have to then we won't. But i think it's pretty safe to say some changes in terms of layout and architectal stuff will happen after we finish remaking it. What though is still in discussion.

    I have one small request:

    in atmospheric processing, there's a vent that leads to N-Corridor (it's above the dark, curved trench). Can you change that vent opening so that one can run straight into it as a skulk? It acts much like one of the old Nancy's vents bceause of a sort of lip on the bottom.
