i remeber way before 2.0 there was a map that had a dark, foggy hallway i believe it was eclipse in an old NS release (it was a map with 2 sliding-open doors in marine start)
Um, well, hera has the Maintenance Corridor, which is dark and foggy if that's what you meant. Anyway, that's just a bunch of env_sprites after eachother.
Whether it was "just a bunch of env_sprites after eachother" or not, the effect worked (works!) really really well, looks great, and ocludes vision enough to provide cover in plain sight (skulk up on the ceiling in that corridor, and I'd say thrre out of four marines will walk right under you without seeing a thing).

oooer, I love the new lighting for feedwater, the green that is... green and orange don't go together well imho :\ Perhaps make it a lighter colour?
The infestation in refinery looks neat, and I love the way the lighting stands out more. Deliberately placed infestations look soooo much better then the randomly placed and completely infested rooms you see in some maps :\
By the way, I'm assuming you're going to give the source to the original mapper at the end of this, right? Perhaps add a note about this in the FAQ
MrBen added some nice infestation, this picture will be changing untill I say it's final, or close to final...

Do what you feel is necessary to correct the small flaws in the original map, I think we can all trust your judgement after seeing these lovely screenshots.
The author said that he didn't have time for NS anymore... which is why you haven't seen him in a while. So no, I don't think they're doing this with the intention of giving it back to the author... they're doing it to give it back to NS.
yea, ref HAD the lamest infestation of the three hives in bast. Now, thats...wow

Please tell me the railing at the entrance in Engine hive is going away. It was always a pain in the butt, except when your HAHMG marines could stand a bit behind it and shoot anything that tried approaching while it had to do some acrobatic movement to get past. And if you tried bypassing it by going up the side ladder, the ladder has you. Long enough for you to get shot to bits.
That is A LOT of infestation. It still looks ok, but the thing is everyone in recent times completely covers their hives in mountains of alien crap. I always liked the more subtle approach used in the old refinery. For example: the original refinery had some stretched, masked infestation textures on the floor just underneath the hive itself (on an otherwise clean floor). It looked really cool, like the slimy stuff had been dripping down .

Working on the feedwater lighting... maybe too green but give some suggestions. Edit: changed/tweaked green and orange lights, tweaked the pipe texture.

You people dont have ns 2.0 or 1.0 installed or something, I do
I think this pretty much covers the difference . However I must say it looks like you people are using an higher gamma ramp setting so it adds more contrast. And I dont know if you use the photoshop gamma settings since your screenshot looks more dark...
Suggestions: Green to bright and the the spot near the rt like ShdwStal said

We are using totally differenct RAD compile commands so that green light is same in the editor but it still looks different. Those orange lights there for testing though.

Yeah but "mate" they said they used the nancy one as a FAQ base, and that was exactly the same as the nancy one, seeing as it was unlikely they were both lost in a HD crash I felt I had to check.

Yes, I know. That tunnel is very atmospheric. I was describing how the mapper had done it, that is if he meant hera.
That's some understatement!

where's the light comnig from in the corner?
and
while you're at it, I think you should remove LOS to the hive from across the room.

Why can't he just give you the source?
Why don't you get the original from the author?
The original .RMF file was lost after a hard-drive failure. This file is needed in order to make changes and compile the map.
