Im pretty worried in my system. I've got 1 afk(Killing him very soon) one semi-afk, a occasional player and a bloody warlock!! He has like everything he is lvl2 so he has killed a few planets, so if someone can help me out in my system (Alpha Sceptrum (30/41)) The warlock has no star base, but ofcourse he could bring a couple cruisers in from his home planet. I can knock him out but he will come back than i will be at ar and i only have 3 destroyers(I already ent off to blow up an afk) but hopefully me and the occasional player can ally up and beat this guy.

I'm getting near 4/4 robo/hydro now. I'm about ready to invest in galactic cybernet (how many should I build?). I am at planet 10, 2 afks at planets 10 and 7, one guy level with me at planet 1. How do I proceed ? Do I

    1. take over the empty planets ?
    2. Go for the afks ?
    3. Go straight for my competitor ?
    4. Turtle down on my planet and build up some more robos/hydros or start investing in research labs ?

Can someone please briefly explain how to do any or all of this ? I didn't get the bit about transports, colony ships and attacking bases.

Also, I'm still investing science in social. Should I be switching depending on any of the above strategies ?

    Thanks.

Social is sorta the turtling method, but it only increases your max pop (allowing you more science and pp)...If you turtle you probably want mathematics, because it adds defense (I think just to your ships, talk to Marine01 about that). Physics is for if you want to attack people. Economy is (if you can research it fast enough) for making cheaper ships.

I would recommend working the culture up to +2, then taking over an afk planet, and then doing one of your enemies, or another empty one. If you're sure they're afk you could take their planet, as long as you have the 3 destroyers (if starbase is level 2).

Just depends if you want to risk angering your neighbors. That's why you gotta make your own strategies!...whatever works for me, might not work for you.

Gecko is right on the battleship count. My sexy little battleship that is currently heading for some poor afk sod in Necro-'s sector cost me 540pp. I have level 10 economy, and from what I saw each time my economy reached a level that actually mattered (4 then 7 then 10) my destroyers cost 1 pp less, and my battleships cost 20 pp less.

Here is a tip gecko, dont build your starbase until you see some mofo coming, or you want to make sure no one even decides to take you on. Spend that res on factories and hydros.

NOTE TO ALL - Bouncing DOESNT WORK. You see optimal? He was ranked 9th. Hes now had to restart because he staked his entire fleet in what he thought was going to be the surprise attack of the century. Spent ages sending it out to a uncolonised world in another SS and then sent it all the way to a planet with 18 population. That guy got a message telling him Optimal was coming, and treated his fleet to over a dozen cruisers and a starbase at levels I can only dream about. Not pretty. He then sent that guy a pm asking him how he knew he was coming - and he said that he got a warning from the News screen.

Creep before you can get a new planet you will need to get yourself up to lvl2 culture. You can get there by building galactic subnets. So start that asap, as gecko said. You CAN turtle if you want - but frankly if you do that you might as well surrender and save yourself the pain. One planet empires have no chance against expanders. To get a planet, build a colony ship by assigning 60 pp to colony ship. Then click on fleets, go to launch, and send that puppy to the nearest planet. If you have the sufficient culture level, when it gets there it will colonise. Once you got that second planet, save up 90 pp, get three destroyers and hit the afk. Oh, and try changing to energy to speed that colony ship along its way.

Daza, often the best way in this game is the gutless way. Try and ally with the warlock, only go to the weaker guys if you absolutely must, and he rejects your grovelling for peace.

When I can see you legion I'll see what I can spare. However that basalt monolith is looking very tempting.....

Eheheheh so obvious that gecko has read the glossary <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I think the best position for me to be in is master of my own solar system. So it will mean kicking this other person out. The question is: do I grab some empty planets first to consolidate production or do I go for the afk'ers immediately ?
  • Marine0IMarine0I Join Date: 2002-11-14 Member: 8639Members, Constellation
Get one planet, then hammer the afks. Note that you are gonna lose 2 destroyers if you use three to attack an afks starbase, so you will need to have backups. Take along 3 destroyers to each starbase, and if you bring along a transport and have the required culture level then you will also take control of the planet.

It takes oh-so long to get from one planet to the one next too it, 15 hours or something. How long does it take to travel between starsystems? O_O

Well, at energy level 10, and travelling between two planets that I own to get the 100% speed bonus, my battleship, 2 destroyers and a transport will take a grand total of about 11.5 hrs to get between star systems.

Thanks for the advice Gecko and Marine01. I've built 3 galactic thingummies and on my way to a forth. Culture is going along nicely now. Next its that colony ship for the empty planet. I've already switched from social to energy. Social is at 4 now so that gives my home planet plenty of room.

Quick question about attacking planets. I need ships to go in and attack. I need transport to reduce the population. Do I also need colony ship to finally take the planet over as well ?
  • Marine0IMarine0I Join Date: 2002-11-14 Member: 8639Members, Constellation
Colony ships are for uncolonised planets ONLY. When your transports reduce the planets population to zero, then the planet becomes yours, giving you all the buildings they posses, and a population of 1.

Hey, if the little links are there, I might as well click on them. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

I got 3 planets in my solar system now. Working on a crusier to take out my afks...I'll probably need some transports too. When I get 6 culture it's time to break out the fleet, so I can actually take the planets I'll be attacking.

No NS Players are by me either... So alone, sooooo aloooone...more planets for me <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ....or more giant empire's fleet is coming to attack (or whatever it says) for me.

Is there any way to check out another system without sending a ship or is that the only way?
I don't have any ships yet so I don't know what happens when you make them.

Sent out first colony ship. I think I will send out another one tommarow if I have the culture for it, and take down an afk the day after.

Wow takes like 2 days for my colony ship to reach the planet next to me. Imagine How long it would take to ship one of thoes to the other side of the galaxy <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

Wait boggle - if TuBel sends transports to a planet with your fleet orbiting then your fleet will kill his transports. Alliances are oral atm, and your fleets cant tell friend from foe......

Majin if you research more biology, you will be able to see other star systems, and all the planets in these starsystems and who owns them. If you can see a starsystem but it doesnt have any planets in it - it means that star system is empty. When more ppl sign up, that starsystem will have more planets.

Wait till you get your energy up obliterator, it takes like 6 hours to go between consecutive planets for me.

How do transports work anyway? Do I send a whole bunch of attackers (Enough to win, assuming you take out the randomness of battles in the game) along with enough transports to put their population down to zero? And then does this only destroy the starbase and the population?

Im still a bit iffy on sieging right now :|
  • Marine0IMarine0I Join Date: 2002-11-14 Member: 8639Members, Constellation
Trojan - here is the complete "Guide to taking over a planet"

To take over a planet, you first need to attack it with combat ships. If you attack and win, then you seige the planet. Seiged planets appear red in the map. When you are seiging a planet, its population doesnt grow, and they cant build anything. PP still accumlate, but it cant be spent on that planet.

If the planet has a starbase, that needs to be killed by your combat ships. When, and only when, you are seiging an enemy planet (I.E have combat ships orbiting the enemies planet), then your transports will go into action. Transports are disposable. One transport orbiting a sieged planet will kill one population - and then that transport is gone forever. If you have enough tranports to reduce the seiged planets population to zero, then that planet becomes yours, and get 1 population to start off with.

Bear in mind that you must have sufficient culture level to be able to get one more planet in order for the transports to do their stuff. If you cant "afford" the planet culture wise, then the transports will just sit there.

If you send a transport to an undefended enemy planet that doesnt have your combat ships orbiting it - the transports will die.

Can I assume that if I send a colony ship to an undefended planet w/o enough culture - the colony ship will die ?

Marine01, dont worry, i know. i will just send my fleet away just before his arrives. or can i send them away now. will he be able to rebuild?

Marine01, you were right. That guy DID kick his own arse.

Unfortunatly he is still way ahead of me (well he DID start first), so revenge may have to wait.

    Uh oh...

    25 Destroyer
    2 Battleship
going to attack Alpha Mirfak (Her) 10!

I have a lvl 9 starbase (might be able to get it to lvl 10), and lvl 8 math and physics, but no fleet. Will I be able to take him out, and if I do, what will I get?
