Trojan @ Trojan - Alpha Kitalphar (-43/32) (I think)

This game looks good, kinda hard, yet easy at the same time. Take a bit of getting used too, but so far it looks fair awsome

Good stuff boogle, but you will need more than 2 destroyers to handle a lvl2 starbase like those afk's will have. Pick one afk to kill, and send three destroyers there, and then one transport to capture it. Make sure your original fleet waits there till the transport arrives, and make sure you have suffience culture to be able to capture it. You will lose two of those destroyers, but you should kill that starbase and get a SU.

Get tubel to take the other guy, and then split the ss between you and you are on your way!!

Added Trojan, added TuBel, added Arkhon.

    Which Necro Marine01 D:
Well I whipped hydro and factories upto level 4 and just spent the 111 pp I gained overnight on boosting cybernet to level 4 as well, is +9 pp and +4 culture/hour good enough to get colonizing with or should I spend more on farms/factories?
  • Marine0IMarine0I Join Date: 2002-11-14 Member: 8639Members, Constellation
Ehehehe its not you man, its the other necro-

Get colonising once you get lvl4 farms and factories. Go for the closest number to you - so if your on planet 1, colonise 2 etc. While you are saving for that colony ship, you might want to switch the research over to energy to speed it along its way. And keep in mind, if you get to that planet but your culture level is under 2 then the colony ship wont colonise. You have to have a high enough culture level if you wish to colonise.

Ahhh yeah fellas you could be in a bit of trouble there. Transports will die if they are sent to any planet controlled by someone else that doesnt have your combat ships there seiging the planet.

And your destroyers, they only have an attack value of 2 and a defence value of 1. A 2nd level starbase has a defence level of about three. It will pwn single destroyers, 3 destroyers are an absolute minimum for taking an afks starbase. Dont sweat the loss, as if he's afk he wont get to use the free SU you just gave him by letting his starbase kill your destroyer.

So, if you want to take an afk - three destroyers minimum and you'll prolly lose two. Do NOT send transports without combat ships, even if the planet you are attacking has no starbase. If the planet has a starbase, then send your combat ships independantly, and if they are victorious then send the transports along to kill the population. One transport kills one population unit. So if they have 3 population, you need three transports to take over the planet.

    NUBLETS ASTROWARS GUIDE

Astrowars is a pretty simple game based around some pretty simple concepts, and once these concepts are understood, everything else just comes. However, figuring this out usually involves you getting pwned a few times and having to resign and start up again in a different star system. We would rather that didnt happen, so here is the basics to get you going.

First of all, get used to using the glossary. Want to build a Galactic Subnet but have no idea what that actually is? Hold your cursor over its name in the menu, and it will turn green. Click and it will take you to the glossary entry. That should explain a bit. Want to build a destroyer? Click on its name, and then see what defence/attack value it has. Want to see what defence value the starbase you are about to attacks defence value is? Simply click on the word Starbase in your planets/build menu, and it will give you a list of starbase levels and corresponding defence values. If you want to win, your combined attack value will nearly always need to be higher then the defence value of that which you are attacking.

When you win a battle, you get experience points based around how large the defence value was of the fleet/starbase you attacked. However, it works in reverse, so if you attack and lose the battle, then you opponent gets that experience. If you can enough experience you go up a player level. Each time you go up a player level you get a Supply Unit. This can be used to take one building up one level, or it can be sold for astrodollars.

Colony ships and transports cannot fight, and you dont get experience from killing them. They will die if they arrive at an enemy planet and that planet is not being seiged by you (i.e has combat ships there)

When you launch a fleet to attack someone, then they get a warning as to who launched the fleet, and exactly what that fleet is composed of. Here is an example from my game, where my ally accidently sent 2 transports to my home planet.

QUOTE

11:32:40 - Oct 02 Attention !!! We have evidence of an incoming fleet around that time.
    2 Transports
    going to attack Alruccabah 1!
We suppose its the Fleet of ToKo.

I have a starbase at that planet, and since you cant recall fleets, his transports are already dead. Something that is important to note is they only get a warning if that fleet is launched from one of your own planets. In other words, you can pull of a surprise attack if you "bounce" your fleet of an uncolonised world. It takes longer, but they get absolutely no warning of the event. Something else to consider, check the enemies local time. If your energy level is high enough, it is sometimes possible to send a fleet at 1am HIS local time, and the fleet arrive before he wakes up in the morning I have spoiled quite a few peoples breakfasts this way.

But enough about combat, lets get to the buildings. You can create ships and buildings by spending Production Points or PP. To actually build something, click spend on the bottom right hand corner, select what you wish to build, [now here is the important bit] and assign PRECISELY the amount of pp required to either a)advance that building to the next level or b)create that ship. I cant stress enough how important it is that you only spend precisely what you need. It gives you a far greater flexibility. Half building things is completely pointless, it just limits you. Provides no advantage, just prevents you from changing your mind later on. Only build when you have enough points to get exactly what you want. So if you want that factory that costs 11 pp, but only have 8, dont spend the 8 on it and then wait for the other 3 pp to come in, wait until you have the whole 11 and then spend it in a lump sum.

    The Planets/Detail screen:

    Your population produces +1 pp/hr, +1 science per hour and +1 food/hr.

A robotic factory produces +1pp/hr/lvl. So if you have a level 1 robo, it will give +1pp/hr. If you have level 2 rob, it will give +2pp/hr etc

A hydroponic farm produces +1food/hr/lvl. Same deal as the robo's, only it makes food instead of robos. When you get enough food, your population will grow by one.

A Galactic cybernet produces +1 culture/hr. Again, the amount of culture produced per hour is equal to its level.

A research lab produces +1 science/hr. Ditto to above.

A starbase merely protects your planet. The higher its level, the greater its defence value. If you get assaulted early, dont bother with ships, just pump every last bit of pp into that starbase and pray.

Now to science. All science pools, so the total amount of science generated from all your planets is channeled into the one pool which constantly works away at whatever field you choose. You do NOT have to "purchase" science the way you have to purchase buildings with pp. Science is constantly working, and automatically applied to the field of your choice. You can change the field by clicking on Change Field in the bottom right hand corner of the science screen. If you want to know what each science does, click on its name.

Now to Culture. Culture is generated by Galactic Subnets, and the amount of planets you can own is governed by your culture level. I for example have a culture level of seven, and I own 4 planets. When I sent a colony ship to an uncolonised planet at culture lvl 7, I got this msg

QUOTE

The people are not willing to colonize Alruccabah 11 and follow your leadership.
You need to increase your culture to get more planets.

I need culture level 8 to control 5 planets. Thus I have to wait till my culture increases, and then relaunch that colony ship. So if I tried to colonise planet 2 and it failed becuase I didnt have sufficient culture, I would have to either send it to a different planet to colonise, or send it back home and then relaunch it to planet 2 to make it colonise.

Trade. Well actually I know pretty much sod all about trade. I do know that when you get past hi score lvl 70 you get the option to "Spend all Production points", which converts all PP on all planets into astrodollars. These astrodollars can be used to buy artifacts (cool things that can increase the rate at which you expand/research/read the glossary ), SU's or PP. The way the SU market works is this, every time someone sells a SU for astrodollars, the price of SU's drops. Everytime someone buys an SU, the price of SU's rise. At this stage of the game, a whole stack of ppl have just killed off a lot of AFK's and got a SU for it, which they have cashed in. And thus, the bottom has fallen out of the market. No one at this stage has the astrodollars to buy SU, so its going to continue to fall. However, the value is so low at the moment that people are no longer instantly cashing in SU's, so we can expect to see the value of them rise over the next couple of days.

The fleet section is pretty much self explanitory. If you have a fleet, select Launch to send it. It will ask you what ships to send, in what SS and to what planet. If you click that arrival launch estimator, it wont actually launch the ships when you press launch. It will just give you a rough estimate of what time the ship should arrive. Bear in mind that until you get your maths up, that arrival launch calculator is freakin useless, it can only tell you the day. Get maths up around 10 and it can tell you the hour.

Something very important to note. You can only have 5 fleets maximum in transit at the one time. This was done to limit Joe hardcore from blanketing people. So a good idea is to only ever have 4 fleets in transit at the one time, and save the fifth slot for emergencies.

That pretty much covers most of it.

Read the Glossary when you get some spare time lads you wont regret it, it explains a fair bit.

Daza, just get 2 more destroyers and you are set to take the nearest afk nublet. And when you get that SU, hang onto it, the market is going to rise in the next few days I reckon.

Market? You mean, like a stock market? Haha, this game is more involved than I had expected

Thanks for that overview aswell, very very helpful, covered a lot which I was still kinda blurry on. Its a really simple game to catch on to, but you'll have to write another on this 'market' thing, it still puzzles me

Yes i know about the su's, i read on the forums. Trojan you can sell these things for a fare bit and when there is hardly anyone selling them the prices go really high so you can sell em, and get enough astro dollars to build 6 battle ships

Nup, no star fleet at the start. You have to build up to get those. Suggested format is robo, then hydro alternatively until you get 4 - but feel free to experiment and figure out a strat for yourself.

EDIT one thing I didnt mention in my nublets guide was server updating, but the dang thing wont let me edit so i'll add it here:

Server updating - Every ten minutes, the server updates. That means that if you are getting 60 pp an hour, and you wait ten minutes, then log out and log in again, there should be 10pp waiting to be spent. You dont have to wait till the full hour is up to get your hands on that pp goodness. Same applies to Science and culture.

Getting a hydro adds 1 to your population correct?

    adding one to pop does
    +1 food
    +1 production per level
    +1 science per level
    right?

so wouldnt it make sense just to get hydros at the start?

OR if food isnt +1 to pop, how much food do u need to grow in one pop?
  • Marine0IMarine0I Join Date: 2002-11-14 Member: 8639Members, Constellation
Getting a hydro means you get +1 FOOD/ HOUR. When you get enough food, then your population will increase.

The amount of food you need depends upon how large your population is. I think you need 8 food to go from pop 1 - pop 2. You then need 11 food to go from pop 2-pop 3. And so on. The higher your population, the more food you need to bump it up one.

It works pretty much the same for your buildings. A level 1 robo costs 5 pp. A level 2 costs 8, lvl 3 11 etc

Nope he probably doesn't since you need 4 culture points to support 2 planets, I think you just wasted at least 1 colony ship.

I'm at population 6 and I'm working on my culture and going to start colonizing by tomorrow, I'm kinda nervous cause one guy in my system has a sience level of 8 : (

I've got a question about colonizing:

Okay, so I'm in this really f-edly named system 'Alpha Zujj al Nushshabah.' There's this system nearby 'Alpha Sartan' that looks more promising. So I tried to send a colonization ship to it, but It didn't let me (when I checked Alpha Sartan it didn't have a list of planets so I didn't have an ID to use). I just sen them to AZaN 2 instead.

When can I colonize Sartan? If at all...Also there's 2 afks in the system, and one other dude thats kind of behind me....If your names JayMoney, and you're from Canada...I'll let you have one planet, but the rest are mine

If no one knows, I'm UltimaGecko. I'm on the f-ed up named system Alpha Zujj al Nushshabah.

...Why are all the systems named Alpha ... ? Not all the star systems in the sky are Alpha ...s ....bah, it annoys me. They should let the first person in the star system name it. Checking for pronoucability, and swears. Then just use a function to capitalize the first letter of it, unless it's under 3 letters.

Well the great thing about sending colony ships when you dont have the required culture level is they dont just die when they arrive. They throw a hissy fit, tell you about it, and you get to order them to another planet. Eventually your culture will get high enough, and the next uncolonised planet they land on they will colonise.

Gecko there are two maps - a general map which shows you evey star system in the entire galaxy, and then there is your scanner map, which shows you starsystems that you can see. The scanner map also shows player names and population. You can only send fleets to ss within your scanner range. Increase your scanner range with biology research. I suspect that all the Alpha's are there because they are doubling up on names. Concentrating on improving the gameplay aspects of the game and ignoring the finer cosmetic touches for now I guess....
