When a marine comm plays "building tetris" and places every building as close to each other as possible.
When an alien comm places all his upgrades at the front of the hive near the entrance.
When a marine spends 10 minutes trying to pick up a weapon off the floor.
...When the "s key" is the most important key for a marine to dodge aliens.
my wings work hard for their money. they deserve a break. cracks me up when I see ground skulks and lerks. it's as if people need someone to tell them that vertical movements throw off aim...
-when marine comm researches phase gates first every single game
How is this a bad decision?
if you have to ask, you're not ready for the answer. come back in 500 hours.
PG first is a valid tatic, especailly on larger maps
within 500 hours, the conclusion should be drawn, that it's a complex question with no easy answer, and therefore nearly pointless to ask in the first place.
phase first isn't bad, but it's also far from optimal... depending on a host of factors involving marine skill, overarching strategy, size of maps, number of players yada yada yada. sars was probably being facetious to a certain degree, and within the next 500 hours, he'd learn enough to know that, and enough not to ask the question.
-they try to kill a marine by using parasite alone
...Getting killed by parasite alone
...Sitting in the corner hiding because you have phantom
...Leaving the chair/Hive when the game starts
...Calling a pro player $hit
...Having 50 hours and thinking you're a veteran
...Trying to find marine spawn on Veil/Biodome
...Everyone goes gorge and doesn't rush
...Losing to marines with a0/w0
...Losing to aliens with no upgrades
...Sentries in every room
...Arms lab in the doorway
...a3/w3 and nothing else researched
...Thinking you're pro because you have a badge
...Your name is "AMB"

Are we talking about pubs here?
Because I have 500+ hrs and except on tram (and even there, mostly) I go pg first, because in pub games people don't know they have a shift key.
When you weld everyone else to keep their armor up but no one welds you back.
... when you do not get welded -> go back to your base -> welding everything possible -> stand in your base with your welder in hand and welding air + spamming the "weld me" button + telling your team to buy welders and weld other marines and watch up to 10 marines spawning, going to the armory, buying a weapon (and/or a welder) and phasing away.
That's basically when I decide to abandon that guys to their fate and f4 / leave the server...

i'm talking all games. phase first efficacy is highly dependent on conditions, and almost never done competitively. depending on size of the game, it's probably also not the optimal strategy for pubs either... unless your shooters literally can't hit the broad side of an onos... pack sponges, gotta love them, especially when they still lose to a single skulk
Sigh...
Phase first is a high risk, high reward play. It works well in 24p servers because of the herds of marines in every corner of the map to defend the gates. If you drop the server pop down to 18p... it becomes more of a risk. IF, big IF, you lose your gate(s) early, you will set back your upgrades for several minutes. If the other team is equally skilled, they will start to pull ahead in this time.
So essentially, if your marines are capable of killing skulks, get ups first before gates and you will win in the long run.

well i was thinking more along the lines of... if your marines can't keep map presence, might as well throw down an extra ip and some phasegates so that their continuous corpsifications slow down the aliens a little...
... basically the soviet strategy is what i'm describing .
If the marines cannot keep map presence, it is because they are not winning engagements. Creating gates funnels them into certain locations but still doesn't improve their chances of killing aliens.
A1/W1 ups into phase gates is a much stronger opening.

Positive/negative KDR doesn't make any sense.
When an alien comm places all his upgrades at the front of the hive near the entrance.
When a marine spends 10 minutes trying to pick up a weapon off the floor.
...When the "s key" is the most important key for a marine to dodge aliens.
KDR is measured logarithmically.

Apparently his joke went right over most of your heads...
*sigh*
Anyway, YOU KNOW YOUR TEAM(-MATE) IS BAD WHEN... they travel in packs like cattle getting herded around by the commander.
