While that doesn't seem too likely, they could turn stickies into proxy nades or make it so that on a demo man's death all deployed stickies explode too (kamikaze upgrade!)...

Molotov cocktails anyone? Or a snark launcher, where his stickies get snark AI... Meh would be to powerfull I guess <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I don't really know of any class that has little to no trouble with a soldier. A good demoman, perhaps. But then again, a good demoman can hold his own against plenty of classes. And all it takes, still, is for the soldier to fire off a <strike>nuclear missile</strike> crit rocket.
I ain't half as pissed on soldiers as I'am on twitch snipers, those guys get everyone, instantly! crit or not (depends what you think HS is). Soldiers you can always dodge given a bit of distance.

I never really played the soldier until one day last week, I was amazed at how much kills I got while staying alive compared to other classes, so yeah he has to be overpowered <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Soldier usefulness/skill seems to vary heavily. There seem to be (roughly) 3 kinds of people who play soldier:
1) Those who aim where you are, and so miss pretty much every shot (easy to dodge). 2) Those who realise splash damage is far more likely, so aim at the floor / walls around you, and if you get close just jump and aim at the floor 3) Those who are good enough to aim where you're going to be, so you get a face full of rocket if you're not careful.
Type 1 are amusing to fight against. Type 2 are annoying, and type 3 can be godlike. Personally if I'm soldiering I try to play a mix of 2 and 3 heavies are obviously easy to hit square on, even if they're trying to dodge. Scouts tend to get cocky and are relatively easy to hit, and medics usually run in a predictable way (running for cover, circling etc...) Pyros are fairly easy to hit too, since they have to run straight at you over any reasonable distance.

Soldier Vs Pyro is the only reason I like all talk.
The urge to rocket a pyro into the air, yell 'PULL' and then finish them with the shotgun is just to tempting <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
To be honest, snipers don't bother me. I rarely ever seem to in the right place to get shot by one and on the very rare occasion I do, I usually switch to sniper for a few seconds, headshot them back and switch back to medic/pyro. Generally it's pretty easy as you know where they are and they're not expecting a new sniper to suddenly turn up on the enemy team so you can usually get a clear shot before they even realise what's going on. After that I strangely never seem to get headshot again =3
As for the soldier... If I got bad scores when I played one out of frustration myself then I might consider that there's an element of balance to them that I haven't spotted but the killing spree that followed was so ridiculous pretty much everyone else on the server went soldier too (not that it helped them). I don't know if I just have a knack for the soldier or if I'm just lucky but it's annoying to do so well on a class you detest so much =P
Pyro and medic are super fun! I was an ok Pyro at best and probably just an ok medic but getting the coordination for ubers with just text chat is haaaaaard =o
It's probably because you play on pubs. Any veteran, which probably includes anyone on these forums, is going to end up at the top in a pub as long as they use a class they're good with.

I think we are all used to predicting for shots (because some of us have played Quake 3 and all of us have played NS and had to get used to the fast movement of skulks + netreg issues) and so soldier is just a really easy class to be good at. I'm not sure it's really unbalanced, it is what it is and if it was weakened I don't think it would be any fun and wouldn't make as much sense.
I hate that guy. Wish I was that good <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
thing is Psyke, the soldier sucks the fun out of TF2 for me... I don't find them difficult to deal with but the fact I even have to deal with them is what eventually drove me off playing TF2. I had a lot of really fun games where there were few to no soldiers on the server but I've had just as many that have become annoying or dull as soldier saturation on the server leads to random explosion death.
I cannot stand dying. I don't mind not getting a ton of kills but dying too much pisses me off as staying alive is how I have fun. When someone kills me in a skilled manner then hey! no worries, I just lost to someone who played better; random rocket death, however, drives me utterly insane.
I don't mind demo men, snipers or even scouts at all but for some reason the soldier really gets on my wick @.@
<b>Stickman video edit:</b> The air shots and direct hits in that vid are impressive but about half the vid is also him spamming rockets at people or bottlenecks as well which is my primary concern with the class.

Crit probability is determined by how well you've been playing/aiming that round (it might even be per life, I dunno). So the fact that he gets a lot of crits is testament to his playing ability, it doesn't mean he's just really, really lucky.
or that he's playing against people well below his skill level
He gets crits when he needs them in those videos. Either he's stupid lucky, or more likely, he's cut out all the parts where he, say, fires a crit against 2 heavies and a medic, and they all dodge it.
the few times I've played soldier I've found you can get the crits you want by simply spamming the rockets... after all, if you fire enough of them one or more will crit eventually =P

Well yeah obviously, he's not gonna make a skill/frag video where half of it shows him missing. That's the point, it's a skill/frag video. I daresay that if we all recorded all of our games, cut out all the misses and only included the kills, we'd have a fairly impressive video to show around too, but that's not the point.
I posted the video to show someone who is extremely good at leading / predicting with a rocket launcher. Ignoring all the crits and the "spam into a crowd" parts, the mid-air hits, as well as that cool little juggle thing he does (shoot at someone's feet to knock them in the air, then hit them in the air) are impressive.

Soldiers are a pest to play against as a scout. It doesn't matter that you can circlestrafe them like the sluggish fatties they are, they can fire rockets at their feet for minimal damage. That's why it's so satisfying when you catch a soldier from behind, unawares. Shotgun him twice, doublejump away, hope their first shot isn't a crit because you won't be able to dodge it and it could almost kill a heavy at full health. If you're still alive, you can now pistol him down with impunity. After several random rocket deaths, this is very therapeutic.
Crits still annoy me more though. I can USUALLY survive random rocket spam, since it rarely scores a direct hit. Random critrocket spam is the bane of my existence.
