VisualC++ runtime fatal error since 2days

Hello.

I played this game 400h without a single crash, but since a couple of days i got a redondant VC++ fatal error when the game is loading a new map.
I didn't do any change on my comp (nothing new installed, no drivers updates, no nothing) and i use steam version.

    Anybody else having this issue please provide your log files, dxdiag info, and dump files. Computer specs as well can be helpful.

    i remember having this issue a long time ago when i used fullscreen. i changed to borderless window and never had this error again.

    edit: i think i had this issue (really a long time ago ^^). would be nice to get more information from op !

    sidenote: mods, you could be a little less abrupt. The usual rule on forums is *not* to cross-post and to let mods merge one's thread with another (when necessary) instead of getting in their way. I was trying not to step on toes! Getting angry and locking my thread without explaining what's up really doesn't help....

    You didn't step on any toes, I locked them because its too messy to have three topics on the same subject. And the usual rule of not having multiple topics on the same subjects supersedes crossposting.

    I'm getting these crashes for the first time as well. Interestingly it's typically when I'm in a dual exosuit or an Onos leading a push. So basically THE WORST POSSIBLE TIMES :D

    Crossing over to here from my other post on performance of the latest patch. I've just had my third crash today. It was a Visual C++ runtime error as were the previous two. The log shows nothing out of the ordinary, a game on descent, marine victory after about 40 minutes with some valiant free greenies learning the ropes as I commanded, we killed monorail hive last and post game completed normally, there was chatter in the waiting room and then the map cycled. Here are the last lines in the log. I wasn't watching the exact moment when it threw up, but when I looked back the window was blacked out and hogging focus and there was a Visual C++ Runtime Error dialog box trying to wriggle round it but failing.

    Any and all data regarding this will be helpful as this has been reported to the devs and they will be looking at this thread to help them solve it.


    To create a dump file, when the game crashes do not close it, but go into your task manager and right click on NS2 then create dump file. After it has completed it will tell you where the location of the file is.

    I will try to finds the logs/create the dump when it happens again.

    Creating this dump file will more than likely result in a large file size.
    Please upload it to somewhere like drop box or equivalent for us to download.

    depending on picks up the crash..

    if NS2 reports the crash itself I expect it to be in a temp folder.
    If windows picks up the crash, its in your profile in dr watson folder.

    Usually how this works if, when you click the message away, the dump file also gets deleted. Not sure if the ns2 crash reported does that though.

    okay i've crashed a total of 6 or so times since b243 (didn't play much in b242 though, so could have crept in earlier).

    every crash was during a server initiated map switch.

    (didn't get any crashing before b243)

    Is a dump file helpful? I made one but it is 1.3 GB in size - with my upload that's going to take days or something to put on the 'net. So I'd need to know which bits to extract from it.

    Can say I've experienced the map change crash, can't give any logs right now though, as I'm sure they're long over written.

    +1 on this issue.
    Played on a server, then map changed to Tram and game crashed. Rejoined twice with the same result. Tried other server, everything went fine, rejoined first server and got crash again.

    same here... it doesn't seem to matter which map but it only happens during map change.

    it's becoming very annoying to the point where i just cba playing. crashed twice in the last 2 hours while playing on the yoclan.co.uk server, both times i had to join a queue to rejoin :/

    Happens in explore mode too, compiling shader runs on every first map load (it is very quick, only the first compile is "slow") even when no game update (i can't get 2nd map load for now because crash.. so can't tell if it is on all map loading).
    Dump file 1Go.. impossible to upload.
    And ns2.exe process won't stop after visual c++ window error disappear. I have to kill it at every crash.

    I am pretty sure you can (UWE) just get the crash by playing the public build in your office, you'll have the dump file much quicker.
