Like I said on irc, I think it's great that you're modifying nancy a bit. This area looks very nice and just perfect for a lerk or a skulk. Where does the vent lead to though?
Or it may work to simply raise the scale of the sprite and reduce it's opacity more (i'd put it at 0.1 and go up as needed from there) If that doesn't work I think you may just have to do it with OGL or limit the system to emerge from a few pipes. Also is your fog ps tied to the water entity itself or a func_invis brush inside that entity? If it's the water itself maybe there is some kind of unforseen problem there that's generating lag.

latest shot of co_dante
I know it's a bit dark at the sides, there are two black walls just out of the shot on either side. <img src='http://www.ausns.com/~mouse/maps/co_dante/co_dante0003.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

Charge: it's not a bad start, you just need to add more details to it. the walls and floors are compleetly flat. try to add some SPUNK to it man! same with the lighting.
Mouse: *nod nod* very nice. i especially like those little multi-layered thingies. good idea. they tie into the tex above them rahter well.

but as it apparently <b>blows</b>, hmm. ill add some red light coming from the vent <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Very nice. The outdoor setting is a refreshing break from the bleak indoors of usual NS maps, and the snow is a departure from your normal NS outside areas. I like a lot. The pipe behind the CC thing adds a good feel to the snowy plains. You just need more things going on, things sticking out from walls, stuff like that.
That's good, but it feels out of place ( aka, not in the NS world.) Perhaps it would be better if you made a different room for the cc ( with electronical equipment and such), and this would be the world outside of it.
I like the CC podium, but the lights on it are too wafer thin. It has a certain icy feeling to it, yet the flat rockface screams "You're in a cartoon, not a canyon!". Look for some vertex editing tutorials so that you can make some convincing cliffs. Good luck!
i know i havent put anything on here in a bit, but take a look at a little of teh combat map im working on. the part where you can see teh sky is not really complete yet.
the only thing I'm concerned about is that it's small dots of steam. I think you can fix this by: making a few several very wide, not tall sprites for fog and putting them around the walkway. then put a lot of fog bubbling up from the water where the hive is (perhaps create a ruptured pipe directly under the hive) so that attention is drawn to the hive's fog, not the rest of the fog. This technique will make everything look very complete.

Here's a look at one room of a currently unnamed ns_map I recently started. I'm pretty new to HL mapping and I've never completed a map before. I hope this map will be my first. This room and hall is still a work in progress and I need to do a little texture alignment and lighting tweaks to make it look good. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
those are quite nice. my only beef is that the thid one needs something on the left to break up the wall adn make it look less textury. other than that superb work i esp like teh first two, reminds me of deus ex 2.
It looks really nice, but in the second picture there are some yellow lights but I can't really see any yellow ambience. It seems to me that there are some blue lights in the background. There should be imho more yellow ambience... (my english is terrible <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> )
But the other screens look really nice!
