One of the things I've noticed about the game's graphics, is that the interface uses completely un antialiased sprites. It looks fine when you are using FSAA, but otherwise it looks pretty clunky. It wouldn't be any more expensive to implement either.

This time I just got the bolt gun, took out the 1st guard, then climbed up to the roof. Threw a poison gas barrel infront of the door, stuck a proxy stun mine on it. Then I just stood infront of the window of the room your target is in, she shot out the glass and I fried her with the flamethrower. The other guards ran through the door with the barrel infront of it, proxy mine set off the poison barrel and I had to put a few rounds into the last guard. I took out the 2 guards on the roof with the turret beforehand.
I don't really know how its possible to complete this mission peacefully, seems like the guards shoot at you no matter what. You can run through ammo very fast too, and the only non-ammo weapon you get is a Knife. Which I suppose would be useful if they gave you some sort of stealth aug or something.
Crouch toggle = the suck. And the inventory is just stupidly annoying, example:
Deus Ex 2: -I want to check out what mines I have, I click on one.
-Oops, clicking means whatever you select with the mouse next is swapped with your current selection.
-Ok, I use the keyboard to continue checking. Whats this? I have an extra pistol... don't want that.
-Lemme just hit Tab to drop... oh... I have to hit Esc first to de-select the 1st item I selected.
-Ok, I hit Esc, click on the mine I want to see and... crap I did it again. Now whatever I click next will swap with the mine!
Deus Ex 1:
Drag it, drop it. Proceed with kicking ****.

Im not going to buy it as soon as it comes out, not because I don't like it (I still do) but because I can't run it with the options I want. Whats the fun of running through a FPS with cutting edge graphics if you have everything set so low it looks like crap?
Yea, I spent a while futzing with the stupid menu's. They were really poorly designed. And as you can see from my screenies, i don't know how to get ride of them .
I absolutely could not stand Dues Ex 1, but this.. This friggin ROCKS. With KOTOR and Horizons and now this thing coming out, I'm almost glad HL2 was delayed so now I can enjoy all these great puppies. :D
My only gripe is the haphazardly handled inventory system. I don't think I've ever seen inventory handled worse... But that's just a minor thing, compared to how OMG PWNAGE this thing is.. Man, so many different ways to go about completing your mission and/or sidequest its *CRAZY*
Hehe - moultano - methinks the crouch thing has angered you somewhat, no ?
Will it work on a vanilla GF3 ?
I don't like the unified ammo idea.
I also believe they've chucked away the RPG elements - just leaving the augs. Is this right ? Someone mentioned hacking skills. Was this through augs or RPG skills ?
A HUD masking the screen ? Uh, no. Let's not. Hope this is not true.
6 slots in the inventory ? I liked the DX1 way of doing things. Yeeeeuk.
*sigh*. Games manufacturers have got to stop dumbing PC games down for console gamers.

QUOTE (Supra_Soldier @ Nov 22 2003, 02:46 AM)

Anyone else having problems with the controls? Esuna said a dev told him to make sure the user.ini wasnt set to read-only, I unchecked that but it still resets the controls.
The whole thing with the menus is its supposed to be superimposed on your retina, since your a cyborg type guy. Kind of like how they did the HUD in Metroid Prime. Not sure if your going to be able to set it to a classic view, in the options it shows a box for "Minimal HUD" or something, which is checked by default.
FYI Im running 1.5Ghz Athalon XP +1800, 256MB DDR, and GFX 5200. I can't get above 20fps on anything but 640x480, at that resolution I can crank everything up and it dosen't seem to affect FPS much.
The thing about all this is, unless Ion Storm releases some great dev tools the DX2 engine is going to be vastly underappreciated. They plan to use it in Theif 3 though (I checked some of the ini files and one actually had a value called GarrettFootstep=1) so it will have some longevity. But unless its heavily liscensed its missing the MP element that could extend its life considerably.
I don't get what's so special about it. I'm not a big fan of the terribly designed interface (which I wouldn't blame on consoles, because I don't see how it could be any easier to use on one). Or the fact the game lags fairly bad, playable and not really choppy, but doesn't feel as smooth as other games. The graphics don't seem all that great either...
Max Payne looks just as good and runs much better, and loads much faster. The fire barrels in the Greasel Pit looked horrendous....I've made better looking fire effects in Unreal Tournament. I'll get it after I get some RAM and someone on these boards informs me of a mod that makes the interface System Shock 2-ish.
Oh, and there was that little advertising thing, by the weapons check, I wanted to listen to the advertisements, but why should I have to stare at the little control panel? Just from a logic standpoint, no company is going to sell stuff in the future if you have to stare at something to have advertisments (Someone may think this is like a TV, but the TV doesn't turn off when you're not looking at it).
It was pretty entertaining besides the mouse lag, system lag, horrid interface and a bunch of other problems. Playing through with the story and all should make it 10x better though so I’ll still have fun even if the gameplay isn’t great.
You guys must all have really crappy systems, or something is really wrong. DX2 demo ran flawless on my not-so-top-of-the-line-anymore 2.4ghz system w/ gf4 ti4400, no problems whatsoever in full detail at 800x600.

Dloading as soon as I get a new monitor for my computer (current one being b0rked since last night). That means no NS either unless I want to play at 30fps on my parent's computer.....
Did someone say that 50kb/s is BAD? So how come I usually get about 40 yet my ping is generally among the lowest in any game (DSL)? You all using super-awesome-pwnsj00-broadband or something?

Hmm, this MX bullpoopery is just the kind of nonsense that makes me boycott a game. There's no reason for it to not have the option of running without pixel shaders surely? It's only the UW engine after all.
Am I the only one who thinks that a few bugs don't destroy a good story? It's a bad demo, but that doesn't have to mean it's a bad game. They just did the mistake of cutting most really entertaining aspects - the selection of biomods, the plot, the choice between different tactical approaches - out by putting you into a preconfigured character somewhere on a sidequest.

Ho ho ho.
This demo will NOT run if you have ANY of the MX range of Nvidia cards (which are quite common) save yourself some heartache if you have one.

Seriously... i am sure most would have been happy with better graphics, new augs/skills/weapons/storyline, same setup, new content.
