Problem is the GPU. DX2 is the first released game that uses completely dynamic lightning (no lightmaps whatsoever), which means that it eats fillrates for breakfast. I get good performances on 800*600 with 1x multisampling and all details on high.

Stupid question time: anyone here with a GF4 440MMX tried running the game? Note that I haven't the faintest idea about hardware and hadn't even heard of pixel shaders until recently.
As for the interface, after seeing the trailer I was worried that the radial menu- requiring cursor controls (for those of us without mousewheels, it seems)- screamed arcade. Consoles... ack.

Ran through the demo a few hours ago, had to turn it down to 640x480 to get the performance I wanted. Still looked pretty good at that resolution though, I wasnt too keen on that "Bloom" effect, or the forced anti-aliasing.
The biggest problem I saw was the interface. It was mostly keyboard based, whereas the original DX you could drag and drop your inventory easily and access all the mission info and such from 1 screen. You could tell the interface was pretty much unchanged from the console version. I just didnt like that when I clicked on a weapon, then wanted to check out another, it would instead swap them around. I also miss just being able to drag an upgrade over a weapon and have it upgraded.
For such an innovative game, the interface seems to take a step back from the simplicity of the original.

It's official- the game doesn't support MX cards, period. I didn't realise it prevented the game from starting up altogether, instead of just disabling some features. Someone explain to me how a game like HL2 is all set to be supported by my "outdated" hardware while a game like DX2 isn't.
Oh, the fun just doesn't stop... I'm hearing about a lack of reloading and unified ammo from others, now. Magic ammunition accepted by any gun. Who needs strategy and supply conservation... or an inventory that actually holds a useful amount... or gameplay... *froths at mouth and collapses*

The unified ammo could make sense from a nanotechnology standpoint, but it is going to remove a lot of the depth from the game. Having a variety of ammo types forces you to learn all the weapons in the game because you run out for your favorites.
Hacking is way too easy now. There's no tension to it at all. Once you hack in you can have your way with the whole system. No time limits or anything.
On a postive note, the voice acting is a lot better than it was in the first game.
