Mother Interface is from Alien vs. Predator 2 (AFAIK, cuz it's the only AvP game I've played), as the marines constantly refer to a system named 'Mother'.

No... Mother is originally from Alien. Its the name of the ships computer.
Obviously Alien vs Predator borrowed this as it is partially the alien universe

Ugh.. I've been looking forward to playing this map again for such a long time. (From around page 24 or somewhere when I realized you were remaking it ) But.. irony strikes again. Now when it's off to Flayra for final judgement, the powersupply in my computer fries! And in little more than a week I'm off for a three month's vacation. That means I won't be able to play Nancy for another three month's!

Oh well

I'm at least glad it's making it's way back to the community, thanks for the effort guys.

[edit]

nevermind.. as the addict I am I went to the local computer store and got me a new power supply. A more powerful one this time too.

if i remember correctly, the yellow area with the "power cores" outside subspace hive is called mother interface...so i reckon the mappers would be so kind as to leave a blank for the name of the nameless hive area or name it "nameless", for nostalgia's sake? and perhaps to prevent any confusion?

I think the hive name is "Mother" and "Mother Interface" is still "Mother Interface"

Alright Flayra responded. He likes it and he's quite happy. There are some technical issues that need to be worked out though. He mentioned a possible patch coming out shortly after 2.1 which would be great as it buys some more time. Errors he pointed out:

"
- Mess hall and aux gen, when viewed from commander mode, have unacceptably high r_speeds. Commander mode should max out at around 800, and should be closer to 500 or 600 normally. Just west of Mother hive is a problem too.
- You have 225 entities in the map currently, where the maximum allowed is 200 (and even less is better)
"
-He mentioned the lighting problems which I already know of and have started fixing already.

WolfWings what is your email? I'm gonna forward the replies back to you so you can see what needs to be worked on as well.

Correct. Mother interface is the terminal for the Mother core, which has become a seat of infestation due to its high power/heat dissipation. So AFAIK, there's Mother Interface just outside Subspace Array, and Mother Hive just past Port Engine.

I for one am glad to see Mother Hive getting its name back. No more needing to explain it to nubs.

So we're not going to see Nancy in 2.1p then? That's unfortunate. Because, as great as flayra is, "shortly after" when referring to a patch almost invariably means months, or at least several weeks.

Anyhow, surely there is lots of time left in the 2.1 playtest, I mean, it's horribly unbalanced at the moment.

I really hope this map makes it into the next official version.

Also, STICKY the thread, please?

Indeed, with so many replies, this should have been stickied about 1200 replies ago

Guys, I'm seriously impressed. When this started, I figured it'd never make it. But, you guys have thankfully proved me wrong. All of you own. My congratulations and thanks as I loved Nancy and have missed it dearly.
• ReeseReese Join Date: 2003-05-08 Member: 16143Members
Has there been any talk with devildog about a co_ version of nancy? I mean, the mess hall area would be just about perfect for a space to fight in. I'm even willing to pitch in on another nancy related group to do that map. I wanted to check here first before trying to contact him no need to make the guy repeat anything.

Hats off to the good gentlemen for all their hard work. When 2.0 came out and Nancy was gone, it seemed like a crule joke.

Now, thankls to all your hard work and effort, it's back. Thank you ever so much. This will make many players ever so happy. (When I ask the players on the server which map they want to play next, 3-6 guys will all shout "NANCY")

I'm glad Nancy is back. Ever since 2.0 came out, I've felt like there weren't enough maps in the rotaion. This is due to 2.0's faster game play. With games lasting from 15-35min on avrage, rather than the old 35-75 like they did in 1.04, you just see all the maps more often.

I know all of you need a well deserved break after all this, but I was wondering if you guys were going to get together and make another map. Maybe a Nancy sequel, in the way Veil is a sequel to Eclipse.

Or something totaly original of your own designs.

Just a thought, and thanks again.

Damn I'm really impressed guys. I really really doubted this project would make it, it just seemed like all the other hundreds of projects you see start up out there. But thats why the NS community rox, its a more mature crowd that gets things done. GJ, was just woundering though, how much has changed? new texture job? Changes / Additions to the lay out?
*EDIT* Any chance of getting some screens here?

A few areas, like Port Engine hive, have been widened to make them onos friendly. Some vents had lips around them before that made them impossible to get into, so those lips have been removed. The two vent systems have been connected. Other than that, it is as close to the original as possible.
• WindelkronWindelkron Join Date: 2002-04-11 Member: 419Members
didn't flayra or devildog say somewhere down the line that the vent system would be changed so that one can't shoot the hive directly from a vent??
• GuspazGuspaz Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2862Members, Constellation
To bring up the 2.1 beta issue again, am I correct in interpreting that that the nancy remake won't be playtested in 2.1 beta, and instead we're going to have to wait a few months for 2.11 to enter playtesting?

If that's the case, perhaps the ns_nancy team should release a public beta, otherwise it's going to be ages before any testing gets done.
• ReeseReese Join Date: 2003-05-08 Member: 16143Members
This kind of map testing can often be a pain to coordinate with a large beta. Mappers usually release betas of their maps under the impression that they don't generate this kind of interest. Trying to get many many people to keep the up to date version on their HD is hard, especially with the possibility of new versions popping up once a week. In general it would be easier to run the testing through the core ns playtest group, which is smaller and easier to coordinate.

In the face of losing it forever, I think waiting a long time for nancy to return isn't that much.
• relsanrelsan Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 3720Members, Constellation
We've waited this long. We can wait some more. More than anything I'd rather it be done right the first time, and right now it sure sounds like you guys are about 95% percent there! (if not more)

Oh um.. can marines still get stuck in the 'floor grate from hell'? Where it was all buckled up with a vent under it, and it was easy to fall in, but impossible to get out?

I think there is a ladder in there. I think someone said there was a ladder there in 1.04 too. I could be completely wrong though.

I think there was, but the ladder was bugged or something and it was a pain in the **** to jump out. I remember climbing halfway up and just falling off, or something.
• BigDBigD [OldF] Join Date: 2002-10-25 Member: 1596Members
I think there was for the top part where the grating is. But IIRC god help you if you fall in the vent itself.
