That's odd, because that sounds kinda hilarious.

Do they always jump so dramatically and fall when lightly touched on the feet by an opposition?

    Yeah Steppin' they do.

Funny thing is we had a match last week in England for charity, if you can find any videos of it online it'll be called Soccer Aid 2010. Basically it's a sort of Celebrity England v Rest of the World thing. At one point an ex-Professional player tackles a ex-professional boxer from Wales; takes him out to the floor. He started getting back up, then made a joke of holding his shin as if he was in pain; got a laugh from the ex-pro footballer :p

Channeling your inner wuss is what soccer is ABOUT, Molly. Seriously, this game has more dives than the olympic watersports.

I watch too much rugby and AFL, I cringe every time I watch them dive. I can't help but be turned off the game thanks to it.

edit: Also I find the penalties a bit inconsistent, I often can't tell the difference between a legitimate challenge and something that breaks the rules.

North Korea earns the "Most boring and wuss way of playing" award...

20 of the 22 players on the field are on their side, that kind of play is what's wrong with today's football matches... I'm looking at you as well Italy!

I'm only watching this match due to Brazil! I love their game. Here's hoping they win, while humiliating North Korea with 3 (or more) vs 0

    @steppin'razor

Indeed, that is also one of the things that should be punishable with a red or yellow card, using the big screen as a review device. Screw Fifa for not allowing this technology! I'm always waiting for one player to sneeze and see the other team fall over, because of the airflow.

These top athletes are the somehow most unbalanced and wobbly people in the world :(

Yes, I just provided them with free advertising. It's their reward for being funny.

Vuvuzelas p*ss me off. Or whatever they're called.

I don't want to hear them, it sounds like a swarm of insects. The players hate them, the managers hate them, and I'm pretty sure the non-african fans hate them. Gawddd :/

    Good football though. xD

Yeah, I heard the Germans made an anti-stupid horn song or something... That and the local news shizzle here in Dutchland is toning down the stadium volume...

I think N.K. were fantastic, playing against such a strong attacking side, you have to drop back and defend well. There's zero point in going out and playing gung-ho just to entertain the fans. Most football fans can be just as entertained watching excelling defensive play under sustained pressure - see the champions league semi final between Barca and Inter for one of the most impressive games in recent memory, where inter more or less gave the ball back to barca and stood tall against every attack by some of the best strikers in the world.

There's nothing wrong with today's football matches, although I agree that the diving is just ridiculous at this stage and there needs to be a serious effort to penalise players for doing it.

It helps that the North Korean player's motivation is that if they don't lose, they get to see their wives again.

    Brazil just killed 22 women.

    Next come the children.

    I strongly disagree.

In fact, so far it was terrible.

Germany was the only team that played some decent football in this tournament so far.

    No.

You'd have to either win a game or play two draws and be lucky with the goal difference to make it. But so far US is not out.

So far I'd say that Germany, Brazil, Slovenia, Argentina and the Netherlands are very likely to make it. And I'm afraid that if US is going against any of those teams, they'd probably lose.

Portugal just ensured that no member of any of the Korean team's families will remain alive. In fact, they never existed. Those photographs are forgeries.

Dear Leader personally took to the field and scored 18 goals. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is victorious once more.

This world cup has way too much drama for an international sports event. Especially for the French team, but to a lesser extent the English, and probably the NK team (if we ever hear from that team again). Not to mention all the arguing over freaking plastic horns and the ball itself.

Prediction: France loses to South Africa resulting in huge parties in both Dublin and jo'berg.

I do hope every single Irishman is watching France-South Africa. Karma at its finest.

Something's gone horribly wrong when even the French stop rooting for their national team.
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
I don't get the hate for the french team here. Yeah sure, they won the match illegitimately, but the guy handled the ball, that's all. It happens. He acknowledged it, he said the goal shouldn't have been counted, what else is he supposed to do? It's not like he can un-hand the ball. The error was the referee's - and those make mistakes too. If you ask me, the blame lies with the organisation that refuses to grant a rematch despite irrefutable evidence that foul play was involved.

Whether or not he admitted that he did it, the fact remains that if he *didn't* do it, the result would have likely been different. There's no way it was accidental.
  • Cereal_KillRCereal_KillR Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1837Members
It's a matter of fair play. If I were a player, and I felt a ball hitting my hand like that, instead of shooting inside the goal nets, I'd simply hand over the ball.

But the main problem with this team is that now, French news is flooded with every single bit of scandal they can find on the team. And that's ranging from their 500 Euro a night hotel room, to sex scandals, passing by the way they act on the field and when they practice, and the national federation is handling the matter.
I hate the fact that this does not stay on the socialite-type magazines like they should, but rather they replace important news. It's blown out of proportion, as if it were a matter of national importance. They act like freaking drama queens and they win more money in a single match than most people do in a whole year, yet they can't even manage to behave like civilized people.
