It's rather refreshing, really. To see women (females!) in games without humongous boobs/twice-a-week-Botox/whatever. Plus Gordon is, I'm guessing from the various released art, a good bit older; you think a 20-year-old would be wanking for this middle-aged hunk o' HEV? <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Half of the girls I know look better than Alyx. I am glad that she's not a regular DOA-type video game heroine, though - I wanna concentrate on fragging not shagging.

It's just a model to add and follow the movements.

If the direction wheel can turn (and it does) then why can't the arms be there?

I believe there's a quote somewhere in the halflife2.net forum "Things you got from Valve" thread that explains it.

It's something like: "We didn't want to present Gordon's arms because it would lower immersion in how you would want him to hold the controls."

Along the same lines as to why you don't see him in a mirror, but see everything else (which makes more sense, but since we know what he looks like doesn't make much sense).

Considering you see his arms on weapon models, I don't get why they did it with vehicular controls.

Honestly, when are you going to notice these small little lighting issues.

I honestly don't care if the shadow is slightly mis-aligned, it's the gameplay that's important(ok, graphics to a degree)

well frankly if they put all that effort into making the phsyics so realistic youd think they could improve the shadows? i mean come on every shadow on characters point in the same direction

Its more complicated that simply making a model and rigging it to the vehicle. You have to take into account the player has the freedom to look in any direction while driving.

The animations would have to take into account the direction gordon is facing in relation to the controls.

After playing Doom III for a bit, I wasn't all that impressed. Sure, the lighting was definitely good, but I think HL2 hits things that are more important to gameplay than Doom III did.

    Like...the game. We hope. Yeah.

Personally, I think HL2 will take the cake from all of the Next-Gen games, because Gameplay wise, it looks like it will definitely win over both games, and have more replayability to it. That's important. Just like original Half Life, HL2 could take more steps graphically, but that's not the most important part of HL games. It's the gameplay and storyline that matters most, something that Valve excels at.

Will Source take down the Doom 3 engine? Eh, who knows. They both have their strong points, and Source, with it's ability to be fully and easily upgraded to DX 10 when it's released, might be able to win in the long run, but who knows?

In any case, I'll definitely be buying HL2, because it will probably be taking the HL formula to the next level.

The whole doom3 vs farcry vs half-life2 debate is a complete waste of time. Every time it comes up i ask 'Why bother comparing them at all?' and nobody can give me a good reason. Its not like people are gonna decide to buy 1 FPS shooter and then say "right! i have choosen the single best game and i will never play another ever again!" Games arent sports teams, its ok to support them all at once.

Also, comparing technical aspects of different games is pointless and <i>boring</i>.

Come on, what about Originality? Atmosphere? Charactor? Style? These are the apsects you can't quantify, the stuff thats actually interesting to talk about.

FarCry: Not as great graphics, futuristic tropic island, a slightly better story - 3
Half-Life2: graphics better than FarCry, just teh pawn in atmospherem hope for a frickin great story, and the G MAN!(s)!!! n1

Actually now that I think about previous mods that have been created for Half-Life 1, there was this certain called "Point of View", which had an alien slave that you can control and see things from the Xen side. For those who had played, could make a crack-pot theory about being the same Alien Slave from the mod. Would be a nice surprise though since the plot for "Point of View" was pretty in depth about when Black Mesa was in Xen.
