Happy Hardcore is like Gabber, but with friendlier sounds and it tends to be a bit more listenable. I tend to think of it as self mocking music personally. Played super-fast and loud, but just these happy little beats” (Jimmy DeWitt, 06/11/00). Piano beats, female vocals, and background bass/strings with tempos from 160-200 bpm. Also known as and “soft gabber” and “4 beat” for its 4/4 rhythms. The sound and attitude are upbeat, happy, and energetic for a full body dance experience.
Personally, Happy Hardcore makes my head explode. It's just too jam-packed with Hyper-Cute Adrenaline.

In no particular order, some of the artists I have on a single MP3 cd I have at work:
NIN, Tori Amos, Sara & Teegan, Chemical Brothers, Prince, Madonna, Bowie, Ladytron, Kate Bush, Prodigy, Blur, Garbage, NWA, Norman Cook, KLF, Rolling Stones, Sisters of Mercy, Beastie Boys, Aphex Twin, Run DMC, Pink, The Cardigans, Faith No More, Van Helden, Gwen Steffani, Missy Elliott, Aerosmith.
But that's just a random stab. I've got Sinatra. I've got classical. I've got a lot of varied electronica. I've got random rock and metal. I listen to stuff that generally has complex arrangements, because I get bored quickly by simple tunes. I like my music to have a bit of depth. Interesting lyrics are good too, but not a necessity.
Frankly I've always felt that people who like a particular <b>style</b> of music aren't really fans of "music" at all. They're just buying into a particular lifestyle. This is why I can't bear Marilyn Manson fans. Woo hoo. Covers and stuff that Trent wouldn't put on a B side.
Newsflash - Personal Jesus is a cover. Tainted Love is a cover. He is a tribute artist that wears too much eye liner. Statistically, Brittany Spears has more original output than Marilyn Manson. What does that say about your icon of originality, pop pickers? It tells you that by dressing like a new romantic with a serious muscle control condition, he can get millions of people to buy into his stuff.
At least Pepsi don't pretend that they are selling you anything new.

I don't know, I hardly listen rap closely, but the few times I did I tried to pick up signs of a guitar or something. It's true, there are instruments in some rap (P. Diddy rapping along to Page's guitar in Kashmir), but for the most part I think the music is synthesized?

Kashmir wasn't written to have the rap in it though.

Sparta is way too boring, they're like any other band out there. Mars Volta continued the ATDI-era and made it better!

Bah! I initially discovered them when I caught a rough demo of 'Cut Your Ribbon' on the local radio a few years ago-- and what kept my attention was the fact that it sounded like <i>nothing</i> I'd heard on the station lately.
Besides, it's not like I have anything against Mars Volta. They're great. ATDI is great. I just happen to like Sparta a little more.

Oh man, they are awesome. I'm not a hip-hop guy at all, but I saw them live at Reading Festival, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and so did my friends with similar tastes.

But that's just a random stab. I've got Sinatra. I've got classical. I've got a lot of varied electronica. I've got random rock and metal. I listen to stuff that generally has complex arrangements, because I get bored quickly by simple tunes. I like my music to have a bit of depth. Interesting lyrics are good too, but not a necessity.
Frankly I've always felt that people who like a particular <b>style</b> of music aren't really fans of "music" at all. They're just buying into a particular lifestyle. This is why I can't bear Marilyn Manson fans. Woo hoo. Covers and stuff that Trent wouldn't put on a B side.
Newsflash - Personal Jesus is a cover. Tainted Love is a cover. He is a tribute artist that wears too much eye liner. Statistically, Brittany Spears has more original output than Marilyn Manson. What does that say about your icon of originality, pop pickers? It tells you that by dressing like a new romantic with a serious muscle control condition, he can get millions of people to buy into his stuff.
At least Pepsi don't pretend that they are selling you anything new.
