I voted yes, because I'm a big fan of developers maintaining control over their IP and own games. The way the industry is heading now (Or has been at least) is towards greater and greater $ investment and as such less and less risks been taken. Once one new game makes it big alot of the "major" new releases for the next year or two are often barely disguised rehashes of the originals USP. (Splinter Cell, NFS:U, GTA, The Sims etc). If it's not that it's a publisher milking every last drop of profit they can from a license through many unnecessery expansion packs or rushed poor quality sequels eg. Fallout, Sims, Army Men etc.
I also appriciate what UWE seem to be doing with their two development teams. I'm assuming that the NS1/NS:S team is going to be used as a potential training ground for new NS2/UWE employees. As a prospective games programmer (Well thats what my course is based on) I know how hard it can be to get a job in the industry without at least 2 years experience or a good quality example of your skills. By working on NS1 UWE can basicly check over your work and see if you hae what it takes to be a member of the full time team, while you get valuable experience on a fairly large professional quality product. Win - Win.
About Flayra and UWE apparent inability to keep deadlines, is not that much of a problem with me. To be honest I think Flay makes a mistake when he sets fairly specific dates and should be alot more vague, eg. Think it's going to be ready in 2 weeks, announce that work's almost completed and will be done within the next two months. Problem solved, mostly. Besides I don't think anyone here is a stranger to deadlines slipping in "Professional" development. Hello HL2, TFC2 and Duke Nukem Forever. To be honest I'd give NS2 a 50/50 chance of reaching the shelves before DNF is released and/or finally canceled, despite the millions of dollars investment into a "Major Professional Development team".
Hmmm...that turned out longer than i expected and the server went down again just as I finished....gives a little hit to the credible deadlines thing heh.:) But yeah, assuming you think you can get this worked out with the publishers sounds good. Having a tech demo/prototype or some such will really help lower the risk for a publisher in investing in a new untested development team and new concept/IP. Best of luck guys.
I voted yes, but only if we find out a little more. Tho I am quite confident that I will like what I hear.
And the bottom line for me is, in my mind, $25 is jsut a way of 'paying' for NS and (if it ever happens) NS:S (even tho I'm a consti anyhow) If NS2 is released, then it's a plus.
Also the chance to expand on the world that NS has created is too good to pass up on, I would pay $25 to see what Flay and the team can come up with.
Considering how many die hard fans of ns that still are running around, im sure a lot of people would probably pre purchase it.... But the whole " we might not ever release it at all seems like the half foot in half foot out ". Original ns has been a smash hit very fun and exciting game after game, patch after patch. Rather change the statement to if we never release it to when... Then I would buy the pre order in advance and wait 1-2 years or however long.
I also will never pay for NS2. Not saying I'd warez it. But simply put NS is an awesome mod. Great game. But that's what it is, a modification. As soon as you go "Retail" its not going to be worth anything.
Case in point, CS went retail while it was still a pure HL mod, and sold well (either that or at least sold more copies of HL itself). It was still a mod though, not some standalone game.
Case in point, say you move from just being a mod to a pure standalone game. Honestly, while I enjoy NS quite a bit there are other games that offer humans vs (insert some species of alien/monster here), such as Aliens vs Predator or some of the up and coming HL2 mods. You'll keep your more diehard fan base but you'll lose the majority. I play cause its a cool mod, a free mod. I dont doubt a standalone NS2 would be awesome, it'll probably rock. But I won't pay for it.
Not to mention I am an old school gamer, I don't believe in some super powered PC to run games at 300 frames a second. I can play HL and other games fine with the frames I got. To play the NS2 minimal requirements I'd have to build a whole new system. If I don't upgrade even for my favorite games, I'm not going to upgrade for a game that while I enjoy I still think should stick to being a kick **** (free) modification.
Now I would donate to port NC to the HL2 engine with better graphics, more models, new weapons, new abilities, much larger maps etc. But I doubt that will happen, no offense but from all the news posts you give off the destinction of really wanting to scrap the ns2 for the HL2 engine mod and go straight to NS2 a standalone paid game.

I'll agree its a very awesome mod and hella fun to play. It's not 100% unique. The content is nice but it's not too different than say Starcraft (minus protoss) or SST or AvP. Not saying its bad but its not alone either.
And its playstyle is somewhat unique. I say somewhat cause the only other game I know of that merges FPS with RTS is Savage, and afaik Savage was around before NS (at least it was in development before NS was). Not saying NS copied anything or whatnot, just again pointing out NS isn't 100% unique in any genre or form.

NS2 will be on a next generation engine (i.e the source engine, or doom3/quake4 engine, unreal 3 engine also another example), makes me wonder if you bothered reading the news post about it?
I would proabably pre-order it if it got constie status as well, maybe $25 to preorder or $30 to pre-order and become a Constie. As there is no garentee the game will come out / run on my system. If there was some reward for your faith in Flayar it would be good.
Wasn't happy with the way NS was going over the past year or so. I voted 'No'. You can't garauntee what engine it will be on? Thats too much for me, if you had said atleast you will shoot for HL2 then I might think about it. Stand alone NS2? I would give it freely. Because I feel NS2 stand alone has more potential than everyone else does.

If ns2 is perfect hit box wise, I'll pay, but I wouldn't pay for the ns we have now. It's a wonderfull game, probably the best FPS ever but, it's so much bs sometimes. It can make my life so miserable and so happy some other times.
Make choke/loss server side on Doom3 engine or UT2004, and if I see a nice progress, I guess I could spare 25$.
Not source plz! I feel it will be the same bs like HL1 mods on source. Don't blame me, didn't try cs:source, but a couple ppl told me regestering still wasnt perfect and hit box where better but not perfect.
On the other hand, UT2004, I played on net and regestering looked ok, and my bullets where actually hurting when I shoot at the graphics. I want ESP hack just for names! lol (hope some ppl get it)
Didn't try doom3 online, but graphics tottaly blowed my mind compared to the half-lame half-life 2. And NO, physics aren't better in hl2 compared to doom3. There's even a grav gun mod for doom3! It's just they decided to use physics more intensly in hl2.

to me, if flayra came out and said ns2 would be geared towards longer games (30min+) like 1.04 as opposed to the current shorter games (15 min or so) then definately, otherwise, i don't think so, i might buy it in shops but even then im not to sure.
+n with Comprox. I don't think it's such a good idea to gather funds from the consumers themselves that early , considering the lack of information about the new game. People could easily be disappointed by the lateness of the game's release or the game's content itself - better have a very clear idea of what the game will look like before pre-selling it imho.
I for one wouldn't expect a shiny updated version of NS for HL , as if it were just a port to a newer engine. I would expect a completely new game with plenty of original features (wall digging , hint hint) , a radically new yet balanced gameplay (good luck at this) , with several game types (ideas aren't lacking ) including a *long* SP campaign with smart looking NPCs and tense storylines (yeah I used the plural form , don't forget the alien part !) in the most atmospheric settings possible of course , not mentionning state of the art models and meshes because we're used to that

Better take your time to work on the game's core features to easily prove that NS2 is going to be a badass game , Flayra.

Stick with NS.. add a few features... make it look nicer..
Sell that.. THEN hit the big project.. after NS is a celebrated Series....

I remember us discussing this way of funding NS2 in the old Constellation forum. It's great that you consider putting this trust in the community.
Also consider the (almost) free ways of making the (pre)purchaser feel more happy about himself/herself, like the Constellation icon, closed betas etc.
UUUUAAARRRRRGHHHHH ... damn mother****in ****.. i did a **** big post bout playing and buying games, why there is no reason for "more-info-needed" and why games r never the way u expect them to be.. ARGH.. and then.. i accidentally pressed f5 and this mother****in browser reloaded and sent my post to nirwana... ARGH.. the post was big, my english is bad.. so i need really a lot of time to write such a big post.. DAMN IT
EDIT: at least i want to say: voted "Yes, but only if you released more info about the game", changed my mind, now i would vote "YES"
I will Only say this. If thats a online discount price to buy a preorder of NS2 and we can get a downloadable version. Then I would consider buying a preorder of NS2 VIA online just to get it for the 25.$US price. As long as we can have a guarantee in writing that we have a sold preorder purchase when NS2 is release. Then I am in like Flin
Also I know its a bit early to ask, but can we see some kind of mod support for custom maps model etc. A SDK so that some crafty peploe can make custom maps models.
A yes, if u make me an constie also
I agree about keeping it MP-focused. Sp games take ages to develop and are over in 10 hours
Definitely will donate/preorder. Playing NS was alot of fun (I definitely wish for NS2 to be made on the source engine!). Although I would want a box with the cd etc (I just like collecting them and it's just satisfying to own something physically - pun intended). Even if the game doesn't come out the investment was good and I know the money wasn't wasted (if anything think of it as another donation towards the original NS)
This team deserves our money people! I have alot of confidence in them and the awesome game they will come up with.
QuelTos next time you should write in textpad and save it there then post (copy/paste) it in the reply dialog box, that's what I do since that nightmare happened to me more than once ... I learned my lesson.

I won't pay for a game that's just a redone version of the previous (ie. CS:CZ, CS:S, Battlefield Vietnam/other EA games) Maybe not a totally interactive or diggable environment, but who knows, maybe have some interactions with the environnment have effects on another part, or some weaker structures that can be shot or bitten off (like a portion of the map where you can destroy the environment). Personally, I'm not a fan for digging your own paths around the map. It's fun for the first time (I spent oh so many hours on Red Faction's demo room) but is it necessary?
As for SP, don't concentrate on it, but it always makes a game much more finalized when it does have single play. For example, Battlefields have always been lacking here. It's a plus, but far from the center of focus.
I Would But I Would Want Special E-Mail's With ScreenShots And Exclusive Pictures And Other Things On The Game That Only People Who Payed For It Now Would Get.
I just chose box/manual/cd/whatever for the sake of having some material possession to make sure it is indeed coming. Plus something to take photos of and brag about!

Thats not why I play HL:Mod's....
NS has the greatest idea.. Multiplayer+RTS+FPS=Great Game...
Stick with that and DONT drop the multiplayer aspect of it all...
its your MAIN driving force
I for one wouldn't expect a shiny updated version of NS for HL , as if it were just a port to a newer engine. I would expect a completely new game with plenty of original features (wall digging , hint hint) , a radically new yet balanced gameplay (good luck at this) , with several game types (ideas aren't lacking ) including a *long* SP campaign with smart looking NPCs and tense storylines (yeah I used the plural form , don't forget the alien part !) in the most atmospheric settings possible of course , not mentionning state of the art models and meshes because we're used to that
Yes , I'm in favor of a huge project that would have the effect of a shockwave in the gaming industry , hopefully knocking your competitors down but this will need time , much time to do , and we can only check the content after it's well on its way. 20€ sounds cheap enough for an early pre-purchase but not that early ! Better take your time to work on the game's core features to easily prove that NS2 is going to be a badass game , Flayra.

I tend to disagree with this...
Dont go overboard.. or you'll drown..
Dont do SP.. Dont do alot of crazy 'new' things...
Stick with NS.. add a few features... make it look nicer..
Sell that.. THEN hit the big project.. after NS is a celebrated Series....
Also consider the (almost) free ways of making the (pre)purchaser feel more happy about himself/herself, like the Constellation icon, closed betas etc.
Good luck!
EDIT: at least i want to say: voted "Yes, but only if you released more info about the game", changed my mind, now i would vote "YES"
As long as we can have a guarantee in writing that we have a sold preorder purchase when NS2 is release. Then I am in like Flin
Also I know its a bit early to ask, but can we see some kind of mod support for custom maps model etc. A SDK so that some crafty peploe can make custom maps models.
The commumity would to like to see some light shed for any assurances that are happening.
This team deserves our money people! I have alot of confidence in them and the awesome game they will come up with.

QuelTos next time you should write in textpad and save it there then post (copy/paste) it in the reply dialog box, that's what I do since that nightmare happened to me more than once ... I learned my lesson.

Don't go overboard, but go a step further. I won't pay for a game that's just a redone version of the previous (ie. CS:CZ, CS:S, Battlefield Vietnam/other EA games)
Maybe not a totally interactive or diggable environment, but who knows, maybe have some interactions with the environnment have effects on another part, or some weaker structures that can be shot or bitten off (like a portion of the map where you can destroy the environment).
I just chose box/manual/cd/whatever for the sake of having some material possession to make sure it is indeed coming. Plus something to take photos of and brag about!
