1) While there's no denying that NS is a fine piece of programming and it's quite impressive what you've managed to do with an old engine like H-L (which if I remember correctly is actually a modified version of the Q2 engine), good programming doesn't necessarily make the game any good. NS isn't a bad game, but I wonder if I would've paid for it. I find gameplay too repetitive, and once you've played a game on one map in two or three different ways, you've pretty much gone through all the variation you'll see. There are some critical design flaws here, and unless NS2 will be a lot better in that aspect, I'm not sure I'll play it at all, much less pay for it before it's out. On a side-note, the adamant refusal to implement a number of features that I (and from what I've seen, several others as well) feel would enhance gameplay for what seems to be no reason at all is not very reassuring either.
2) Nothing personal here, Charlie, but you're not very reliable. Most recent example would be the site that was supposed to be down for a few days, and turned out to be down for closer to a few months (one and a half or so, was it?). I understand these things happen, but it's not the first time. Something unexpected always seem to happen whenever new patches are to be released or new features are to be implemented, and while everything might not be your fault, it still doesn't make you look good. The only reason I'll have for this investement is your reliability, and I'm not sure you've earned my trust there.
3) A personal note, I'm rather picky when it comes to games. I rarely buy anything if I haven't tested it first. There are three games I purchased without testing; Starcraft, Warcraft III and Half-Life 2. Especially Blizzard has proven they know what they are doing, and while they certainly take their time when making games, they make sure that they are worth waiting for. And UWE? Well, I don't think you'll make a bad game, I'm just not sure if it'll be good either.
I guess you could consider that a "No" from me. However, I'm not against the idea of investing a bit in NS2 now *if* you can convince me that NS2 will not suffer from the same problems NS does. Convince me that it's a dynamic game and you've come a long way already. Knowing what engine it'd be on, the setting/theme and system specs wouldn't hurt either (though the specs is probably somewhat difficult at this stage).
DEFINATELY!!!! but it costs me twice that in Australia
I love NS. I can't put it into enough words - my love of the game aside, I've made more friends, had more good times and felt a sense of community moreso than any other game, ever. I've easily logged in more hours into NS (since first public release, when I began) than any other game in the history of my gaming career since the 8-bit NES, I try to be a dedicated PT and community member.
That said, even as a (young) adult my income is low. I did donate to consti, an expenditure that wasn't necessary (as far as paying for a game in order to play it), and glad to have done it. I would dearly love to see NS2, and I would gladly pay for it, preorder it, whatever - but I would need more incentive. I need to know it's being worked on, that there's progress being made. I need to have at least some idea of the shape it's taking.
I remember there was an idea for the PTs to keep logs, sort of a PR thing where we'd keep people updated on what we're doing? And what someone suggested, like bungie did for Halo 2 - I think that's a great idea, and if I knew something like that would be kept, that would be enough to push me into the "Yes, I'd preorder' camp. That, or if you're still taking preorders by the time I finish college and I'm making regular money, I'll preorder anyway - put more than preorder cost into development if I can. But as my current financial status is, I can't justify investing in a game I know next to nothing about.

Me: "Look I just bought this cool set of Ginsu knives!" Rommate: "But you cook 90% of your food on a George Foreman Grille" Me: "Well, now I can open the packages faster and never have to worry about sharpening!"
Seeing as the game is still in its earliest stages i have a long time ahead of me before it comes to me, so forth i have no hurry upgrades my computer. Besides, if i found a way to donate the 20 bucks and became a constellation member, i think i can do it all over again expecially for a game from you guys.
I would like as others said, some more info about the game in terms of gameplay.
If development is confirmed and updated info are provided on a regular basis (including playtesting for public, if applicable) then i'll likely to buy it
Give me some more info, principally what game design directions your going to from NS to NS2 (a larger scope seems the obvious answer) and you'll have my money.
a great cheap risky investment if you ask me if 25 or 30 dollar gone to waste thats like me paying for ns mod so either way its all good for me since ns has been nice to me

I voted yes i wouldnt expect to have the CD and game but if i do cd might have a code for ppl that prepaid only works for that person something like that i love to see where NS goes from here.
I was thinking like 1 year ago if NS2 came out on CD id pay $70 but has to be new like MMORPG type of game or action multiplayer/singleplayer .
Buying gamecards at EBGames for anything that ns2 comes into.
You guys wont be delivering this through steam will you? I can't stand steam, it is extremely annoying. I have already decided that I will no longer be buying anymore games that require steam, though I would have to really think hard about making an exception in your case.

Please no, most of us with jobs really don't have time for MMORPG's. I like regular FPS games because you don't require all kinds of insane commitments to the game in order to be able to keep up, not to mention the endless repeating leveling up and item searching. Not only that but I really hate monthly fees, I'd rather it just be a onetime payment and then I own the game.
I would be willing to do so, I have wasted enough of my life on NSv1 that I would be willing to help you guys out some more (I am already a member of constellation). I just hope that the game which this mod will be using will have enough people on it to have the great games that I have experienced in the past, if NS was released as a mod on many other games it would have been dead by now surely, you have to have a large base in order for a mod to really take off.

It's good for people to see the development "back end" of things. It helps them understand just how difficult it is to put out a polished product in a reasonable amount of time. There are so many factors not even related to money that can affect the outcome. Then add the money factor and it seems a daunting task to anyone.

Lack of advertising. I've seen very few Allegiance advertisements and most of the players I have talked to heard about Allegiance by WoM (myself included). Word of mouth is a good way to get quality players, because they are friends of people and not just some random person picking up the game, but quality does not lead to quanity of $$$. Allegiance had a very tight group of people playing the game, but eventually MS had to shut down the servers because there were too few.
NS2 should go through a publisher, and secure funds by large investors and not rely on word of mouth.
I voted no. I've been a member of the NS community since the day of its release and a constellation member to boot. There have been a lot of things to cheer about, but also a lot of disappointments. I don't regret donating to constellation to support a great mod. There are, however, different standards to be applied to a for-profit game company. I don't believe NS2 will bear fruit considering the management style exhibited during the development of NS.
Start-up companies in every industry face the same problem. You need to spend money to make money, so it goes. The fundamental idea of entrepreneurship is that you assume more of the risk and thus reap more of the rewards. I believe it is unethical to foist this risk onto your community, considering how unreasonable it is of them to be educated on the facts of the matter. I know revenue models like this have been tried before and I am unaware of how successful they were, but I can't see anything positive coming out of this in terms of reputation.
If you wanted an assessment of a start-up company in the games industry you didn't have to ask the investors how it would go. Every industry is dominated by those who have the money. It takes real business-savvy (which I honestly don't believe you have), not games-savvy (which I think you have) to maintain independance and succeed. There are, however, plenty of models for you to rely on. None of which, however, involve making people pay for a non-existant product. I suppose in this regard I actually blame the success of the constellation program.
