Uh, I have to go to a banquet tonight.. I hate dressing up but my girlfriend really likes it... which I don't mind because I am madly in love with her!!

So, no mapping for Dark tonight. But I did try to compile my map last night... eh, it didn't go well but that's mostly because my new PC isn't properly set-up for mapping with all my custom WADs etc. Plus BSE's likes to terrorize me.

I'm also in need of some hive ideas... check back a few pages to see the first one. Any input on that hive or another is very much welcome.

Getting ideas on hives posted in this thread would work so much better if you put a small back story in the 1st post so we can put our minds to work on that idea making thing yaknow...

Gooooood. I hope to have some new picehs ASAP. I'm working on a creepy desolate medical area right now.

And I might post more of the "story" later.

Speaking of which, does anyone have any comments on what I wrote earlier? I'm hoping to unveil more and more information leading up to the release.

Those pipes look a little dodgy, as if they are just placed there by pure randomness and not for a purpose. On the first screenshot give that little green monitor a bit of light and make the floor or ceiling texture different. The first screenshots is no where near as good in quality as the second, which looks pretty damn neat.

From a gameplay prespective, that diamond shaped hallway kind of worries me. At the steepness of that angle I would imagine that marines slip down to the center if they try to climb up on the sides, yet skulks won't have that problem. Basicly you are restricting marines to one by one single file movement in only back and forth directions, while skulks because of thier wallwalking don't suffer any consequences at all.

It is definately a workable peice of architexture, but if those effects weren't intended it would also be fairly easy to fix by decreasing the steepness of the banks and widening the walls on either side to fill the extra space left.

I was thinking of the lack of variation and bad aligning and resizing. I'm TRYING to come up with some concrete examples but I'm getting... distracted.
Lets take it in reverse order, newest to oldest. Hallway. Pipe on the left appears to be accidentally split in two, which is either detail in damaged objects, or an error you've probably fixed anyway. Large pipe in the ceiling has dull texturing on the rim. Monitors aren't shining unlike most others.
Pipes in general have blah texturing. I think I'm the only one who ever bothers to align those properly. It's just too bad I'm too lazy to actually finish any of my maps...

Medical something. It's clearly extremely WIP, so I'm holding off until you post an updated shot.

Slightly tweaked fanpipe room? Ceiling using same texture as the floor is a no-no. My compliments on the rail thingey though. Monitors, again not using any shiny overlays. Door seems cut out of wall, add some sort of edge('fraid I can't think of a better way to phrase it). Pipe rim again... wall high up right next to the pipe isn't aligned around the corner. Same grey walltexture constantly? :/ Floor could use some resizing. Good work on the panels in the background to the right.

Greeny hive. Looks really nice. Except for(again) the blah floor. And the stairs could be resized around a bit. The ends of the pipe need to be more uniform(ie, solid metal grey with no random edges streaking through). You could clip all the outer walls in the room right along the upper edge of the monitor set and use a different texture there for a less repetetive look. Maybe some infestation in the far corners?

Delicious. All that could be changed for the better is to give the Maintenance sign a light of some sort so it's clearer. Though the supports could also go under the catwalk in order to look more support-y. And be thicker and farther in-between. And something to support that heavy computer on the left. Pipe texture alignment could use a work-around too of some sort(ie clip it and use a different texture like vent2 on it to make the edge unnoticeable), if you don't feel like aligning it alot.

Different angle showing hueg dawr! Add rim around door and you're set.

Whoa. Steamy! Terribly dark in that corridor, but the water doesn't have the same light level :'(. Possibly add one of those alieny green lights so it's not darker than the hive itself?

Older shot of above area but from a different angle. I guess. Nothing much to add that hasn't been said already, but the lift texture ends very suddenly in two directions.

The rest I believe are too old to comment on.

The only thing I notice from screenshots is the 2nd one of the latest set, floor nearest the view bottom of the shot sticks out like a soar thumb. Low res texture, overstretched.
