Yes, we need more stories, they need to get peeps who write fiction to just sit there all day writing about their NS gaming experiences <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

Well, I do recall the details of a long game. This story is a biggie. A story of alien woes. We were playing as Aliens on good ol Bast. We had been steadily climbing the tech tree, and I, the enterprising builder, had been a busy beaver. I had swam down into the deep tunnel of water connecting the water hive to the outside of the refinery hive. There, I had laid a trio of defense chambers. I completed them and they healed my oxygen starved body as I continued my work. Belching out movement chambers and sensory chambers, I worked in peace as my defense chambers kept me alive. I was informed that the water hvie was under attack and evolved to a lvl 1 deep under the water. I hatched and swam as fast as I could to the water hive. I saw a marine back away from the pool as I swam up, his power armor glinting off the surface of the water. I switched to leap and executed a spring from the fetid pool. Hitting 4, I whirled aroudn the siege turret the marine was building and clicked. The nasal bubbly sound, than !BOOM!! SPLAT! The marien was toast, and the unfinished siege was down. I respawned, but not in time. The marines arrived in force and cleared the hive before I could xenocide them. I arrived just as I lost the ability and was brutally shot to pieces as I tried to escape, hitting the 4 key in vain. We had lost one hive, and lacked the firepower to take it out. Fortunately, all of our upgrades were well hidden deep beneath the level in the watery tunnel, so we had the upgrades of 3 hives even when we couldnt evolve all the way. I told my team "Evolve cloaking upgrades and camp the entrance to the Refinery, we'll surprise them". I stayed a trusty level 1 and ran to a forward position. My weapon model "whited out" as I slipped into invisibility. Not a moment too soon. A marine came out of the tram tunnel leading from the water hive. Just one. Big mistake. He thought he was high and mighty cause he had an HMG and Power armor. I'd teach him. I bided my time. He jetpack strafed right by me. I waited as he opened up on our turrets. Than, while he was reloading, I made my move. I lunged out of my protective cloak and Chomped. Still unfazed, the marine took off, but hit his head on the ceiling. I jumped up and delivered two more good chomps. One or two more should finish off this upgraded marine. Whirling around like a dust devil, I chewed him up. This was a morale boost, and my comrades took up cloaked positions around the hive entrances. I evolved to a lvl 3. Swooping back and forth on patrol in the hive room, I watched as Grendel ran down the ramp and flung hiself at the marines, but their combined HMG fire liquefied him and spattered green goo up the ramp. I swooped in low, stitching a trail of spikes. As I came near the squad, one of them took off and loosed a barrage of HMG fire at me. Battered and torn up, I flailed out of the air, out of energy. I was caught by a bullet in mid fall and died. The marines had this hive too. I watched as my two teammates escaped and evolved to lvl 4s. It would be their last chance until we got back the hive. Before I could respawn, those ruthless mariens had effeciently cleaned the entire refinery of infestation. We were down to the engien room. About a 15 second walk from the marine start, right outside the airlock. We spam it with turrets, until we exhaust our rps. This is it. My two teammates who had managed to evolve to lvl 4s are above thism they need to preserve those valuable evolutions as long as possible.. I evolve myself to a lvl 3, and prepare for the incoming marine attack. They know where we are, there is no escape. Doubtless, they have all the tech researched. I am sure they can see me coming, due to motion tracking. Grendel says over voice Comm "Alright, I'm gonna go take out their CC, we have to if we want any hope of winning"(or something to that nature). I tell him to wait for me, and we both head up the vent to the marien base. Our upgrades are still maxed (my little pocket of infestation sustaining them), and I use my speed upgraded self. We rush straight past a barrage of turrets at breakneck speed amidst a hail of fire. Shells pound our carapces ans we reach the lift to the CC in tandem. We get on the elevator and go up. CHOMP! CHOMP! CHOMP!. The commader exits his CC in a panicked rush (presumabley after typing "CC under attack") I turn my attention to him as he fires his LMG at grendel. He eliminates Grendel as I get the last bight on the commander. I have moved though, and am now vulnerable to turret fire. Two whirl on me and I am liquefied, a green smear against the back of the station. I was told that the marines were headed to the engine room from the refinery. I run up and out, past the airlock as a marine steps out. He gives chase, stiching my level 1 hide with LMG bullets. HAh! LMG. I run into a vent, whirl around a corner and wait for him to pass. To my comical surprise, He follows me into the vent. Lesson 1 of playing marine: Lvl 1 can go more than twice as fast as you in a vent and your long range weapon is crap at such close range. Never go into a vent without support. Oh, and never go it alone with an LMG. EVER. I was cloaked, and wait till I could smell his breath and feel the tingle of his power armor on my skin. CHOMP! CHOMP! CHOMP! CHOMP!. He didnt even get to fire a shot in the confusion. "Hah hah hah!" I type. Well, the marines get it together at this point. They round up at the airlock, and I watch them step through, equipped with Heavy Machine Guns, Grenade Launchers, and the token Shotgun. I run at them angrily! They will not take our Hive! A thunderous roar of gunfire and I am a stain on the floor. Shells ricochet. Silence. Here they come. My teammate informs me "three marines headed for hive, I parasited two of them". I Evolve cloaking, run into a vent, and gestate into a level 3. My screen shakes. The final moment has begun. the tell tale Chunk! clinkity clink . . . . BAM! of grenades. I hear my turrets expload and listen to the sound of gun fire outside my egg as deathmessages pop up. my two teammates die, and one marine is toasted. I fly out! swoop low! BANG! Shotgun blast and I am tattered wings and spattered remains. The grenade's rain of fire fills the hive room. My precious hive whimpers and winces. Flames engulf the room as explosions shake the engine of the Bast. Before I can respawn, the game is over. The room is empty, the infestation cleansed. Good game.
The moral: You can hang on for a while, but if a marine team is organized, well equipped, and determined enough, they can accomplish anything.
i feel sorry for you because you were the last one to die, and i often am, too, in many games. well, i guess you were the "Most Evolved" aside from your... um, less-than perfectly-evolved commrades. <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo--> (seing as how they all went extinct <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo--> )

The aliens use an energy system instead of ammo, and it's used from determining how many projectiles you can fire, how long until you can bilebomb/xenocide, when you can blink, and also how long you can fly.
What I think happened is he ran out of energy, so he couldn't fly anymore and started to fall/glide (I remember a PT saying something about holding down a jump key to glide)... then he was shot and died.

Yep, and because I was simulataneously flying and spiking the marines, my stamina dropped at an extremely high rate. As a result, I lost the ability to "jump" and started to free fall. A marine took off with an HMG and killed me as I fell to the ground. Energy management is half the fun of the lvl 3. Balancing spurts of wing flapping, long glides, and spike or spore attack runs makes the level 3 one of the most fun classes to play as.
Flying .. ohh what fun it must be <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo--> I can't wait to play and post great stories for my children to read and cherish for all time <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo--> "AHHHH!!!" <!--emo&:bob:--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/bob.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bob:'><!--endemo-->
