So far, the community is quite motivated and many people keep providing us information. Whoever you are, if you wanna talk about anything or have some pleasant idea that would deserve to be promoted on NS2News, please contact either @tudy, @yojimbo or myself.
To help us advertising our 'newspaper', a couple of servers have added Shine Epsilon on their servers, Ghoul designed a button a few weeks ago that you can see by pressing M (next to motd, changemap, etc). Big thanks to all the servers ops that made this possible, we will make a news post about it really soon.
We didn't expect this project to be this successful. But to go even further, we're working on a new website to replace our current site. The URL will most likely change too. We'll finally be able to get rid of Wix. So stay tuned! More coming soon.
Thanks everyone for following us!
PS: to tease you even more, let me tell you that our next article should be about a list of questions addressed to Hugh from the new development team. This is going to be exciting!
News has been good. I really liked the recent crosshairs article. It was a small sample size but I did not realize that deathmongers crosshairs were that popular. I thought I may have been the only one to use them.
I am looking for a new alien vision. Maybe an article on that might be useful.
You know, I read that and now I really wonder if they hired the right people. Referencing things from 5-12 years ago are so out of touch with the way gaming has changed and evolved.
Other things are completely ignoring what NS2 is as a game, a TEAM game and promote certain outcomes that will make public play even worse than it already is.
Kill a Gorge within 5 minutes of round start
Command 3 games
But no I am sure gorges will love being targeted down and frag hunted more than they already are, considering gorges are generally the lower skilled player or the BRAND NEW players who just click it because it's there...
Who loves stacked teams on public? Oh that's right no one, but lets reward people for winning 3 games in a row, that will surely solve that problem.
Command a round! New players will love trying to get that one, there's no plan here to keep players but we want them to get achievements that will make games worse.
I realise these are ideas currently and there are a lot more to be planned, but these ideas forget what NS2 is, completely ignore all of it's current issues and try to solve problems that don't exist.
We can randomly drop TSF approved random weapon skins in-game during skirmishes, near battles of more than 5 players. This would encourage teamplay and sticking together.
No this will create bad teamplay and force massive groupings of players completely ignoring the way ns2 is supposed to work
In all, everything here is a case for "how can we get as much stuff into our game to make money" and not "how can we improve the game, teach players better and keep them playing"
CSGO, DOTA2 and TF2 are games that make insane money from steam because they are either A ) F2P and can sell content be it skins, animations whatever or B ) Be cheap enough with a big enough following and competitive scene to make it work.
Now while NS2 is cheap enough for sure, it is not remotely close to being big enough to have a massive marketplace where people can sell tons of skins, nor does it have a epic competitive scene with thousands of players who the community look upto and want fancy signed skins from.
Trust me, I wish NS2 was as big as CSGO. I'd love for UWE coming back to bring a whole new life into this game, but if you ignore the glaring issues, shun your community developers in favour of paying for features that will not guarantee you player retention it's going to run into a wall so quickly it'll collapse on you.
Fix the problems the game has, get your player retention numbers up, teach the rookies how to play, don't force them into terrible games with stupid HUNT FOR SKIN rewards and THEN try to make your money.
Otherwise you're doing a PAYDAY2/Killing Floor 2 adding DLC for money, ignoring the GAMEPLAY and expecting the community to accept it with open arms, but it seems paying attention to modern game design choices, outside of a questionnaire , has been ignored and instead reading books from 2004 when games, design and communities were a completely different thing.
I hope I have this wrong and I hope as developers you start listening to the community, aka hire mendasp so you can work on making your game make money and he can keep you from losing your players.

Crafted by Decoy? No way, haha.
It must be broken then
It's fixed, refresh the news.

Is that Travel Time or Research Time?
Or how early in the match the research starts?
Pretty.
