I'd be more attracted to the 'sonar' thing, except she doesn't let it out herself- she simply can see portions of the world near where there are loud noises, the world popping into existence only for half a second or less.
It'd be a ###### to code, but damn if I wouldn't be impressed enough to run around like a headless chicken and forget their art team's model mistakes.
The new characters certainly aren't more realistic... but they're a little bit more high brow. Give more of an action movie vibe. I think I'd personally prefer the origional cast, but I understand why they did it, and I don't really think it's going to effect my enjoyment of the game negatively.

If the witch is as deadly as you say it would suck when people start to memorize the map or use 7.1 sound equipment so they can hear roughly where to attack all the time. The witch would not be something extraordinary. If you however may only play the witch for a limited time or only on special events, it may work as intended.
C'mon kids, there's plenty of time to shriek about the art direction of the game once you've seen it all fall into place. Don't get your panties all in a bunch.

She's a one-hit kill I think, so it would get abusive if mastered. But if someone could master playing an FPS while blind they deserve to rape. Plus ambient noises would make it a ton harder too.
