Well you can kill an engineer while healing a HWG if the HWG is any good at shooting things <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Ah yes, I've been meaning to ask this question too: Can Medics heal other classes than the HWG? From the way people have been talking, I have gotten the impression that the other classes are pretty much s*** out of luck when it comes to healing because the Medic is busy humping his pet HWG.
  • DiscoZombieDiscoZombie Join Date: 2003-08-05 Member: 18951Members
medic is fun and really easy to play. HWguy is usually a solid choice for healing because he has so much HP, but when it comes to ubering, a demoman or soldier is often a better choice. an ubered demoman is much more mobile and can run in and destroy some sentries real quick if ubered, while an hwguy has trouble wadling his slow ass forward for the attack.

I always get most SG kills on stage 3 in Dustbowl, either at start with 2 other engis or at one of the corners later on. Got 23 yesterday which is my record <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />.

According to PCGamer the medic is the most boring class, I tend to agree but it is also one of the most useful. Imagining AIDS in the syringes helps a lot though.

By the way, can Medics heal themselves?

No, but they have auto regeneration of like, 3hp every second or so.
  • AldarisAldaris Join Date: 2002-03-25 Member: 351Members, Constellation
No, Medics cannot heal themselves, although they do have innate regen of about 2hp every few seconds.

As for healing other people, it depends. If fighting is going on? No chance. Out of fighting, well that depends on how much awareness the Medic has. I know I can notice several people have low health at once, and get most of them healed up, before going back to my main target. Other Medics I've seen blatently ignore you when you're stood right in front of them spamming the heal me button.

It goes a little something like this:

    - At the beginning of round Soldier perpetually rocket jumps so the Medic gets his uber bar charged up as close to 100% as possible (usually reaches 50-75% by the time they see an enemy)
    - When they spot an enemy the Medic always keeps the Soldier (or cover) between him and the enemy. If the enemy tries to flank behind the Soldier the Medic runs to the opposite side of the Soldier. This way the enemy is always forced to go through the Soldier to get to the Medic, and is inevitably drawn in towards the Soldier, making it damn easy to hit them with a Rocket aimed down at the floor.
    - Where possible the Medic remains on the other side of walls and doorways so Snipers cannot even see them.
    - Medic waits for Soldier to have reloaded all rockets before starting uber, so no killing time is wasted.
    - The Soldier should always be facing away from the Medic with the Medic behind him. If the Medic runs in front of him, it's an indication the Soldier needs to turn round and shoot someone.
    - It's up to the Medic to watch his back for spies. Any suspicious teammates and the Medic needs to run in front of the Soldier and get him to shoot them.
    - The Soldier needs to be aware of the Medic's health as well, changing his course to pass close to medkits if necessary.

Also I have some personal rules when playing Medic.

    - Although the Medic and Soldier are perhaps the best combination, the Medic is more important to the team than the Soldier, so if a Soldier gets cocky and charges too many enemies without taking the Medic's vulnerability into account, just let him go it alone - there'll be a Heavy along in no time and there's always someone who needs healing while they respawn.
    - If Soldiers do this repeatedly find someone more worthy of your concentrated efforts. Stupid players are always gonna be dead players, whether you help them or not.

I'll second that. A good medic + soldier combination can be devastating (and quite a bit of fun)

one of the best ubercharge targets is the Pyro I think.

Pyros are fast, have good dmg up close and devastate groups of enemies when they don't have to worry about their shoddy HP.

    A quick note:
Ubercharge charges so long as your medigun is being used, you DON'T have to be healign some one, just targettign them. I also haven't seen an increase in charge rate when actively healing either.

Test it. Heal a sniper or whatever one round before gates open in dustbowl for example, then heal a soldier/demo blowing himself to low HP and see % when gates open. I can say now it goes up faster with the latter.

The medgun works like the repair gun from tribes2, except you don't need perfect accuracy to use it. As you look at people, you can see their health. When you see someone you need to heal, look at them so you see their status and hold mouse1. Your medgun will lock to the target and the window will change to Healing:Playername. In addition the person you are healing will get a Healer window so they can keep track of you as well. After the medgun is locked to a target you only need maintain line of sight and range. You can even be facing away from the person you are healing and you will continue to heal them as long as the medgun remains locked on your target. You can drop your target and heal someone else by releasing mouse1.

Also, your target is told what your ubercharge % is at.

medic fun?! you guys serious?! you don't even have to aim your juice gun at team-mates. u get like 10s of ubercharge fun from 5 minutes of healing.

yes, if you play in that style, that's pretty boring.

Me, I get into the thick of it, dodging as best as I can, needling threats and generally keeping as much of the team alive as possible.

You definitely have to be defending on dustbowl to get record sentry kills.

My personal best is 42 with a single sentry. It helps to have a pyro right there with you the whole time.

a question, can you, as a pyro, maintain a constant stream of fire if you stand next to a dispenser?

Probably, but why would you want to? You'd get no surprise advantage and be easy prey for any indirect attackers.

I believe a heavy and pyro can maintain a constant or near constant attack with the help of a dispenser. it's guaranteed with 2 dispensers.

one good thing about dispensers is they never run out of ammo, only metal. they'll give out ammo forever even if they're out of metal.

    Yet again.

    I did not know this.

I really haven't been playing Engie much for the simple fact that EVERYONE else was, and I was getting tired of the stalemates.

However people seem to be backing off of engie so I am starting to play a bit more.

I had another funny moment at the start of a round, we all spawned and looked at out team layout, only to see engineers with 1 medic and a heavy.

the enemy team rushed spies into our base all disguised as enigneers. All hell broke lose in our base with most of the players in our base, a lot of sapping was going on and we didn't know where to shoot or who to shoot...

    ergo we lost and had a good laugh <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    [edit]
Tricked a medic into healing me (I was a spy disguised as heavy), he also activated his invulnerability on me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> I then turned around to look in the opposite direction. The medic turned around as wel to see what I was looking at and somehow caught on since he deactivated his charge. I could then proceed to knife him <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

First day as a spy, I have to say it is quite a dastardly class to play and fun to boot!
