I turned on the texture memory limit, and after that it hasn't happened again. No idea whether that was the underlying cause or not.

Again, that's the purpose of the whitelist. The rest of it is just to accommodate our apparently extremely neurotic player base. -

This objection would apply to any system that can choose a server for players by itself, but that's why the server whitelist exists. The same requirements that quick play uses would apply here.

My ideal system is as follows:
- Queue for as many servers as you like simultaneously, with the default being "any." You can do anything at all while this is occurring, spectating, seeding, reading twitter, whatever.

Sadly, I think I was right. We may have the same number of players in servers, but they're watching instead of playing. I don't think this is an improvement.

Unearthed is bloody amazing.

I would like to see hive count all games in all servers, and have the player count limits only affect quick play. -
I'm a bit worried about the 10v10 change. I think a likely outcome is that we'll have the same number of active games, but with fewer players in them, and so a lower active player count overall.

#2 looks great. "Theropod" seems like the big missing body plan from ns2.

The plan is to add them to the backend first (asynchronously with any client patch), and then expose them for shuffle in a future patch once they've baked a little bit and we've checked that they're working ok. -

Yuuuup. That's the change from Matso that fixed input handling. If your framerate was low, mouse movements would sometimes be dropped due to a bug in the underlying library. -

I enjoyed using that vent a lot. I harassed RTs with it, but I don't think it changed the game. Maybe the solution here is really for the Marines to learn the map. in ns2_origin Comment by moultano September 2018 -
This map is starting to win map votes and lead to great games. Had a wonderful one on it last night.
I feel like the maintenance -> biodome vent is very powerful right now, but perhaps it's just that marines don't know yet how to coun… -

I don't think "your average environment" makes a huge difference because players mix between servers frequently, and that's enough to keep different servers skills in equilibrium. This could make a big difference internationally, as EU and US player…

If everyone in a spec slot would instead seed a new server, the new server would fill up quickly and the world would be a better place.

Just played some fantastic matches on this tonight. Every inch of the map looks and plays just perfectly. Unlike my previous encounters with it, I never got lost at any point, which really speaks to how well the lighting and texturing has developed …

Every game I've had on this patch so far has been fantastic. Great work.
My only wish right now is for something to make getting a game set up a little less laborious. Every round requires an inevitable shuffle vote, and sometimes a res… -

Both are true in a sense. The hive model assumes that if you start with even teams, and add two 2k players to one team and a rookie and a 4k player to the other team the teams are even.

What ever happened to @remi 's idea of bringing up the evolve menu while in the spawn queue? It would be great if rookies didn't even have to learn about the evolve menu butt…

While I would like those things in Ns2 and used them extensively in the NS map I made, they generally didn't make for high quality games. The maps in heavy rotation in NS were similar in architecture to NS2 maps. The maps that heav… -
The fidelity to the original is really impressive. That said, I found the original to be really depressing visually. See if you can find some way to add some life to it. in ns2_altair (by brainfood) Comment by moultano April 2018

It'd be interesting to put a range on each, rather than just the average. Say, mean +/- a standard deviation. That way, as a high skilled player where every server is far below you on average, you can still pick the servers that have at least some p…

That's an awesome graph, and really confirms that rookies are terrible aliens. I wonder if the likelihood of high skill games to have a high skill difference confounds things a little bit? If the skill differences for high skill ga… -
After playing a few rounds where the shuffle vote failed, more servers need auto-shuffle mods. Let people vote to turn it off.

I think rather than having a fixed std deviation tolerance, you'd get better results from having a cost function that incorporates mean and standard deviation into one formula. That might even eliminate a whole class of local optim…
