It's an antique system, no updates available. Even the new bits are obsolete. I'm pretty sure that's still the root of the problem. But at least I can play now until I get the new rig built. Waiting for the next tax refund.in My random crashes have been solved. Comment by SouthernGorilla November 2018

Check the drivers. We've had that happen a few times with our AMD card. Every time, updating or rolling back the driver fixed it.
Only two slots available.
I need to go into the BIOS and check the alpm setting. I've seen one post on the net of a guy having exactly the same problem with a completely different setup. He disabled alpm and it went away.
No strawman. I was listing genuine contrivances that could have been used instead of the weak ones in the video.in Plot Holes and Contirvances Comment by SouthernGorilla November 2018
It's kind of strange that none of what the OP mentions from the video in question is really a plot hole or any more of a contrivance than what you would fins, as pointed out already, in any other book, movie, or game. Yet there is no mention of thin…in Plot Holes and Contirvances Comment by SouthernGorilla November 2018
I don't know about the specifics in the OP, but I like the idea of making farming a bit more involved. This will be the final update on this thread since there is nothing left to be done and, I fear, no way to resolve the issue.
I went with the nuclear option. As mentioned in my previous post, I bought a Q9650 to replace the Q6700 that ca…
Mostly random. My issue is almost certainly due to the age of my system. Whatever workarounds I come up with aren't likely to help anybody with a rig less than 10 years old.

Just wanted to update this thread in case anybody with similar issues happened to be reading it. I am cautiously optimistic that I have resolved the problem. I spent quite a few hours yesterday playing a different game and had no crashes.

I figured it out by trial and error. Something tells me there's room for improvement still. Some of these jokes have me feeling eel.in Ampeel Puns Comment by SouthernGorilla June 2018@Q_bert wanted to know how I built this tower... so here's a video of the process.
I'll work on a video showing the technique. It's really not complicated, just time consuming.(Quote)
Is that a guess as to how I built it or an idea for a build of your own? It is like any other construction project, scaffolding is essential.Well, I'm making progress. I still saw it even while visiting the wrecked research station in the Lost River.
But the rest of the update is amazing. I think I've finally resolved my crash issue and can get back to playing seriously again…Well, I need to experiment some more still... but it looks like the issue may be solved. I just played for about an hour with no issues whatsoever.

But a huge part of why I build my own is just the enjoyment/satisfaction of the process and not the "I can do it better" factor.Upgrading to an SSD didn't fix it. We expect a decent refund on our taxes this year. A portion of that money is going to a full rebuild of the rig. That rebuild may include a new GPU. I might just build a whole new rig and then upgrade this one a bi…Gotcha. No need to experiment then. I already know it will crash at the next lower resolution.(Quote) Yup.
