@NJNaoned
I don't come around here much any more, but I found your post terrifyingly insightful. Thank you. -

Atmosphere can be used to describe the emotional environment of a situation.. in this case, a game. I believe for those of us who speak passionately about atmosphere use this form of the word.

This is an example of taking NS1 stuff and cramming it through an NS2 hole.
The mechanic that made NS1 dynamic for aliens was the use of upgrade chambers on the field without infestation. So yes, Hive 1 Shades would be viable... in anoth… -

BF3 had always run liquid smooth for me. I moved from a 120Hz 42" display where I played BF3 all the time and it was fun. The sound stuttered for … -

Okay. Cool, bring attention to the game, but let's not address player retention. eSports are cool, but when you have a poor selection of servers and low player counts, how is the playerbase supposed to grow?

I remember being on some of those servers for Combat. It made it very enjoyable because it was no longer a steamroll -

I whole heartedly DISAGREE. This is not like the political realm where you have two sides. We all play the same game. Mods for NS1 came from everyone... mostly the average joe. The majority sought after VARIETY and EXPERIME… -
just leads to false expectations... which frustrates already frustrated or confused players.

You can still bypass/null the cool down by completely changing the direction of the strafe jump. You wont go exactly where you want, but you can still out juke a skulk. -
not true. I experience no cool down if I use nothing but strafe augmented with a twist of my wrist and occasionally crouching.

If we could properly remove key bindings in game and shift from any "hard coded" bindings. Think HL1 under steam when you change keys. -
Even in NS1 the marine loses their momentum with successive jumps. I don't mind the current acceleration and distance, but it's the ability to recover and continue these jumps that concerns me.

Something to give us leverage to say "we want these things first"; rather than what is on their agenda
.. and I understood the reinforced program to recoup costs from the last big content update. -
So dare I ask? What if we crowdsource 30k for improvements to the game- no new content, but to secure some fixes. Would our funds be matched?

Well, frantix, I am of the opinion that there is no "us" and "them"- being casual versus competitive. I view all players equally, and that the only distinguishing factor is the focus on personal achievement. A competitive player can take any old gam…

You don't need to "support" the competitive scene for a game to survive... players will.... just play the game. You have to take care of the players first- without PLAYERS, you wont have a competitive scene. without PLAYERS, you wont have mods, maps…

I think AT LEAST the whole LUA thing would be reconsidered. I'm sure offering the community a modding option that doesn't sacrifice performance will be seen in the future.

I could care less about MM too- especially when you have low player counts.

So I have been trying to map recently, and I have come across this problem too. Pretty much halted my mapping aspirations.

I started playing again since beta 202, and the client performance, for myself, is quite nice. I turn off (atmospherics, shadows, infestation, filtering) for both performance and aesthetic sake, and I can play to the end of games without huge fps dr…

Oh there is this thread... this was fun, and I feel this mod can help people acclimate to the Spark engine and NS2 as a whole.. almost what Combat did in terms of exposure for NS1. I want to ask the devs of this mod, what was the rationale behind th…

I just played a bit of this before work and find this pretty fun. The marine movement speed I think is a bit OP, but being able to have a knife AND welder is great!

The only difficulty in this lies in the fact that lighting comes from point based entities.. lights are never produced via assigned textures, ala Source and Quake engine games. How does dynamic infestation tell a particular point of light to turn "o…
