I just tried it and there are a lot of textures that I can see. But the first section of the textures is from biodome and still black. Have you scrolled down a bit?
edit: and by the way, do you see all tree models correctly? There are some that look like a graphic error or as if 60% of the model is missing. WIP or a corrupted file?
I was talking about the default textures when you create a new face. All the other textures are fine but the floor and wall defaults are just black.
I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the new update that just came out since I was working on my map earlier this morning without any problems.
This is what it looks like for me when I start the program. Textures Unlit checked. Also restarted steam and my computer and I still have this problem.
Hmm, strange. I tried several standard textures and they worked fine. I would verify the game files.
Can you select the face and select the "invisible" texture with the pipette tool? Is it displayed correctly in the texture list? Could it be a hidden layer problem? Or missing geometry? I experienced missing parts of my maps from time to time after a few updates. Sometimes geometry in a group was not displayed correctly. Could only see it if I get the geometry "out" of the group. Maybe the game needs to compile the material files before the editor can use the textures correctly? Did you start ns2 and used "optimization"? But that is only a shot in the blue. Normaly it should work without that. But then again I had a black screen the first time in my ns2 history. Maybe all the dxd changes are messing with us
The first Screenshot was made in a fresh file and i used the eye dropper and it's highlighted on the right side. I optimized the game when it updated and verified game cache. I'm pretty stumped right now. The only thing I can think of is to reinstall ns2
I figured it out, they have textures lit and textures unlit opposite! Click Perspective then click textures unlit and you can see them, if yo click lit they go back to black.

That's how it always worked. I just reinstalled the game and the problem still persists.
EDIT: dev_floor_grid and dev_1024x1024 are the two default textures and they show up black. Every other textures seems to work fine.
EDIT 2: Deleted natural selection 2 from appdata and problem still persist
I just launched an older version of the editor from my usb and everything worked fine there. It has to do with the update that happend recently that messed up my current editor.
EDIT: Don't know what happened but it seems to be fixed now...okay...
Dxd9-OpenGL in the ns2 options has no influence on how the editor is displaying stuff or how is it working? Is the editor always using the same rendering method or some kind of safe mode? Maybe it is a driver problem or sth...
I loaded tram to the editor and every texture was loaded correctly. But the level started with 90% black textures. It took a while for some textures to load and switch from true black to normal. But then it was ok. That black stuff is kinda new to me. There are also display errors if I look at the skybox. Some kind of grey overlay flickering texture appears on top pf it when I move the camera. Maybe the DirectX changes are a reason for that behavior/problems. I can't say that the editor did stuff like this before reinforcement.
I'm having this problem too-- I've seen it temporarily load black textures before everything loads up properly, but now it's just sticking that way. I did try replacing textures by material (swapping out the dev_floor_grid and dev_1024x1024 for dev textures that would actually show up), but it looks like there's still lighting problems even after that:
(That light should illuminate all those walls, and does in-game)
+same problem here... some textures completly black (its no - "lit + no lights" mistake on my side).
BUT (on my map) its only the DEV-textures (default / base textures), who are completly black.

So I found a kinda fix for this. I posted earlier that there were still lighting issues when I swapped out the default dev textures for other ones which at least kinda showed up. As it turns out, those lighting issues seem to be exclusive to the dev textures (any of them, not just the default 2: dev_floor_grid and dev_1024x1024). If you swap out all of your textures for actual not-dev ones (note that the selection tool lets you select by material), things should be workable.

Ya, but is there an option to build new geometry with another default texture than dev texture? Because it would be annoying to change every new created face to another texture.

Delete your editor's cache (%appdata%\Natural Selection 2\Editor\cache) and when you open the prop browser it will begin filling it with new, low-res and hard to identify thumbnails.

You can also try deleting the cache folder in appdata\roaming\natural selection 2\editor.
EDIT: Okay for some reason the problem came back...

Same here.

build 256 - SDK:
build 257 - SDK:
...and i am waiting... (dont take this post seriously )
Those black textures are pretty annoying, though.
I think I will keep using the mod, thank you
(its a feature, not a bug!)
