  • Being able to link the pod to your base would be a cool feature, make it feel less ignored and unloved once the mid-game hits. :P
  • It might be neat if there were surface currents and the lifepod drifted over time... But adding that would be a bit of work and balance for not much reward, since the game wants you to abandon the lifepod past a certain point.

    If not fo…
  • I think guarding the void is less about keeping players away, and more about teaching players what the boundaries of the world are.
  • It can get pushed.

I had one game where, I have no idea what happened - I was in the life pod at the time - but something pushed my life pod all the way over until I was directly above middle of the red grass biome. It was kinda cool, a…
  • Yeah, the cheerfully oblivious personality is mostly what I miss. "Congrats, you now only have a 79% chance of dying!" "PRAWN operators train for weeks to overcome the sense of unlimited power that comes with piloting it; you will have to improvis…
  • Clearly Hardcore mode should work like this, then. :P
  • Yeah, the "good job not dying" and the commentary on your various chances of survival are sadly missed. All that dialog really kept me engaged in the early game when I was first playing, and it feels so much more bland and boring now. >.<
  • Things I've been noticing early game:

Gold/silver/copper balance. As lots of people have mentioned. It's definitely swung too far in the "copper" direction, making copper a resource you need way too much of in the early game. And silv…
  • I would use the scanner room well into the lategame if you could filter the list, and if already collected resources didn't still show pings. If those two things don't get fixed, I won't use it likely at all no matter how early game you make it.
  • Should the infection hinder the player in some way, possibly serious if steps are not taken to treat it? Absolutely yes.

Should the infection set a permanent time limit on the length of your game and eventually destroy your save file? …
  • Yeah I'm lost.

Subnautica is one of the most visually gorgeous games I've ever played - certainly the most beautiful underwater game. That's one of the main things that drew me to it.

I have no idea what game you are playing…
  • You would definitely need to change other things to accommodate it if a major change like that was made, like some way for bases to easily refuel the Seamoth's oxygen early game. That's what I mean - you would really have to overhaul the whole game…
  • I usually just do the one base, except maybe a tiny (multipurpose room + lockers) base for temp storage when I am resource gathering in a particular area (usually by the Aurora).

The game would need some heavy rebalancing to really incen…
  • I saw a video where someone made their Cyclops green with a yellow stripe and named it the SS Subway, I thought that was brilliant. xD

I usually just call my Seamoth the "Voyager" because idk. But I've strongly considered that once I g…
  • Really happy to see they are adding something to guard the floating island. Hoping that they do something similar with the mountain to limit access to the huge amounts of resources there, although at least the mountain doesn't get you infinite food.
  • I do like that idea - springing unexpected "survival situations" on the player like "oops, the way you used to get here just got sealed off" creates good tension. As long as its handled well, anyway.
  • I've faced down a Reaper in a Prawn. I didn't survive, because it was my first time and a learning experience, but I do have some advice to add to the above: You don't have to get grabbed.

If the Reaper comes down at you from above, rus…
  • This brings to mind: It would be incredibly awesome if there was a Seamoth module that allowed it to "carry" the Prawn.
  • I was actually playing the game during the Silver Rush period, I remember that quite well... I still tend to over-value silver when I am resource hunting...

Never had pod 5 spawn IN the rad area, though.

    EDIT: Totally misread…
  • Except of course that it's likely the precursors would be harmed by that radiation as well, and why would they design their batteries to emit lethal radiation? Plenty of reasons they might be designed to glow on purpose.
  • I don't think a scripted Cyclops death is a good idea. But I do think presenting it to the player as an option is a cool idea. It's all about presentation (see: WoW, "fatigued" vs "well rested"). If instead of thinking of it as "you are going to …
  • Good gating acts to guide the player to where they should go next, making the game smoother and in fact easier. That was why for example I said the one easy to find propulsion cannon fragment should have a note next to it pointing to the les…
  • The problem with that idea as I see it is your last sentence. One of the things I like about the "rad suit as material" thing is that it means the rad suit is no longer cluttering my storage (personal problem, I know). A modular suit would make
  • I've been running in stable with only a single tank to prep for this change; the only time I've suffocated was when I got lost in a wreck badly enough that another 60 seconds of air probably wouldn't have been enough (don't hit the grand reef wreck …
  • Using the rad suit as a base material for the reinforced suit is a brilliant idea.
  • Unless, of course, they only glow because they were intentionally designed to glow, so that the aliens wouldn't lose them when they dropped them in the dark water. :P
  • It's really awesome that someone in the community is working on this. :)

Like I think a lot of people here, I would love…
  • ...Or we could just go with, as you said, that it's silly technobabble and not real science, and just think of it as a gameplay mechanic. I'm a big fan of that outlook. in The issue of having uranium and not getting poisoned Comment by MaxAstro June 2017
  • If you have enough time to realize the Cyclops is not gonna make it, you could sprint for the Prawn. That kind of "get to the Prawn bay before the sub explodes" could be pretty fun emergent gameplay.
  • While I feel like needing the suit for the reactor makes sense in a suspension of disbelief kind of way, after reading this discussion I have to agree that it doesn't add much to gameplay. If we want to see more use out of the rad suit, there needs…
