Well I guess both can be used.
Its one sheep and many sheep. Its one Onos and many Onos. Or one Onos and many Oni.

Oh, and as for the grammar mongers we have on both side of the fences, language is purely a product of popular consensus, no matter what some english books author might say. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> Agreed...
The "people" that are on both sides of the fence are not grammar mongers. The question is not about grammar it is simply about what you say, NOT what is the right thing to say, NOT what you would like people to say, only what people HAVE BEEN SAYING up to this point.
And all I'm saying is that in all the time I have played this game I have NEVER heard anyone say, or see anyone type "Oni" on a server. They say "Onos" they write "Onos" and if anybody is claiming that they hear or see something else a majority of the time is LYING.
And the vote system is HAXOR'D theres no way it could be this close for so long and if everyone were telling the absolute truth with no HAX that poll would be unquestionably in favor of "Onos".
It doesn't really matter what becomes of this poll anyway because when everybody gets on the server all the Oni lovers are going to be disappointed when all they here are the noobs whining "Onos! Onos!"
I would like to add this however, if this poll were worded differently it wouldn't be such a big deal. Like "What would you rather say?" or "What should be the proper term to use when discussing...?" Because then we can include what is said on the boards and in off-server discussions. In game we don't discuss Onos, we shoot Onos, and people say "Onos". Out of game, on the board, fan-fiction forum whatever, the climate is different and people like to discuss Onos not in terms of friend or foe but what it is really. "Oni" or "Onos"?
Of course if that were the question I'd still like Onos because I feel it can be used as both a plural and a singular term.

NGE's argument doesn't make any sense. The reason there is any discussion about the word "onos" at all is that it ends in an 's', while none of his examples fit that criteria.
I have a theory why we almost never hear "Oni" on servers.
First, the correct usage of it is limited to the use of ambiguous definition like "several Oni", "many Oni", or "a few Oni" so it is unlikely that it be heard as it is more likely to hear absolute definitions such as "a couple of Onos", or "three Onos".
Secondly, and I may be a little off on this but just go with me for a second, much of our community is comprised of people still in highschool or beginning college. Only the smallest handful of this portion is actually concerned in the slightest bit about the "literary arts" or "correct grammar" as they are all using slang in their language and more interested in playing sports, video games, listening to music, or otherwise contemplating getting laid to calm their insatiable hormonal lust for naked women than to worry about the proper usage of one word or another.
On top of this, the majority of the people that use voice chat (I find) are also part of this demographic. Following that line, it is actually even MORE unlikely that you would ever hear or even see typed the word "Oni" while playing the game. This does not however mean that thought out writings on these respectable forums should just ignore the rules of grammar as i imagine most people using these forums are actually NOT part of that demographic. But hey that's just my opinion... why don't we start another poll to see age ranges of who participates on these forums. That might be fun. Useless.... but fun.
I'd have to go with what relsan said. The only way Oni could be winning is H4X!!, though I'd have to say the Flayra suck-up factor could play a big role as well.

Ya know what? Lets take these "rules" of language, turn them around, and give them a big 'ol boot in the perverbial rear end. Why? Because there is less point to debating it then there is reading the Diablo/counter-strike/starcraft/STEAM forums, and thats saying something. I think that most of the different sides are making value judgements rather the gramatical judgements. Hoich, I know I am!
I voted Oni for two reasons. 1.) Oni is the Japanese word for demon, which seams fitting when applied to the tenticled monstrosity that is the Onos. 2.) Oni sounds cooler then onos does.
There, I feel better about being honest with myself. Anyone else care to share? After all, we're all friends here... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
As long as you English call the plural form of museum museums, I think you can all stop discussing the grammatically correctness of the word oni and should focus on what sounds best and is most descriptive. And let’s face it: oni wins hands down.
