cerealkillr-LOL haven't laughed about incorrect definitions in a while, thanks! [edit] Oh yeah! About DoD. The new auto-server updates, which seem to be happening semi-daily, seemed like a good idea at first. After the second one either yesterday or the day before I could no longer join the server and play (I don't hack, and everyone else kept getting kicked after about 1 minute of gameplay). So something's still wrong with it, and the game still gets a C minus. If these server issues keep up, I'm dropping its grade, though [/edit]
Does anyone having this problem about when you get killed your fps goes below 10? I have constant 70 all the time. And does the thomson look weird to you? :/
I happen to like DOD 1.0. Of course the graphics have been raised a whole other notch (for some reason, I'm big on graphics), which may slow some systems down (so enuf complaining bout that). The new British team and weapons are cool as well as their funny radio voices. Having the new objectives are interesting, for they increase variety, however bazooka-ing the tanks are sometimes too simple, esp. when they're unprotected. The new maps really play well, though the old maps were only "prettified", but I guess they didn't want to make any changes. Some complain about the flags on the heads as being too noobie-oriented, but I think it helps. And no, DOD is NOT like CS, nor is it going to be, nor will it ever be whatever Valve does to it.

It may be incorrect but I heard those rumors from a dev just the days before the 2.0 release. It could be an earlier version too , but I'm sure they toned it down.
I'm confused about one thing, the kar crosshair closes <i>faster</i> than any other rifle. Now its fine if the recoil is different, but damn, shouldent the accuracy depend on the shooter, not how fast the crosshair closes? I mean, all 4 rifles xhairs should close at the same speed, but have different recoils and speeds and damage and such. Thats why I think the kar is overpowered, it depends mostly on the xhair being closed before you shoot in this game, well just because its a different gun dosen't mean it should aim slower <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->.

HOLY CRAP THATS NOT WHAT A SNIPER DOES! use team work, learn from you mistakes and quite bitching about firing you machine gun randomly and getting sniped.
Also WTH does everyone blame valve for this release? they barely touched the gameplay (the bar is the only noticable change, that and nades don't go as far) and they improved the graphics, and included a few small changes like the map and icons, if thats all it takes to ruin a game for you then your going to be one very unhappy person.
If you can find a server that limits Snipers to 0 and high damage weapons (such as the Kar98) to 1 or 2. Man, it would be so fun. As it is now, its insane how many sniping spots there are per map. I kid you not, in Avalanche there has to be least 15 sniper nests, about 4 of which give you so much cover its laughable.
Seriously, if they wanted to make this a realistic war type FPS, you should have to manually focus your scope depending on the range, have a spotter with you, and have to ease your breathing, oh and don't forget bullet lag and wind direction factoring in. Of course, somone could always just call a bomb strike on your **** eh? DoD? Realistic? Right....
I have yet to see anyone make a fun war mod. Screw realism, if I wanted realism I would go join the frikin Army.

Lindstrom. I played on a server where one rambo simply ran around like a chicken without a head, stopped for the traditional DoD time, shot, killed, ran around like a chicken without head.... I wish you wouldn't flame, I'm trying not to, and you're just attacking on a premise that he sucks. That's it. I am pretty sure you weren't in that game, and don't know the exact story, yet you tell him (with sincerity) it's the fact that he lacks l3e7 skillz. GG
disclaimer: He could still suck, I'm just saying you shouldn't base your post on that presumption, they rarely turn out non-flamey.
[edit] DoD part-has anyone noticed whether or not that crosshair does any good? I'm pretty sure it merely gets in the way and doesn't do much else. I've fired straight while it wasn't finished aligning before. Maybe they just added the crosshairs without aligning them to the actual time it takes to get accurate again? Maybe there is no time needed to get accurate anymore? Just a few questions I'll try to find the answer to through experimentation and listening to other players. [/edit]

I haven't yet played 1.0 - my 56k download will not finish until I'm well into retirement, and with the economy I may never even reach that point. In any case, I am very wary to continue it, given what I have read here, as well as my experiences with 3.0 and 3.1 (2.0 and 2.1 were by far the greatest version, although I still miss hill). Any game with sniper rifles that can be used with very little to no skill at all is poorly developed. Period. DoD was better than Cs for a while, given the slight amount of skill necessary to operate and use a sniper rifle. Still, it isn't realistic enough - it only took a second and a half to steady, and could be accurately fired at a far-off target standing. Bah.
America's Army is the only game I have ever played that makes sniping realistic, cool, and fun for both LPBs and HPBs (I get anywhere from 280 - 500 ping on some AA:O servers and can still snipe well). The slower pace of the game, as well as the need for stability to fire. Camouflage could actually play a role in game play, so snipers had to be not only accurate but sneaky as well - a realistic touch that so many designers fail to understand.
In any case, I am in no position to pass judgement over DoD 1.0 having not yet played it yet, but let me tell you this - I am certainly not looking forward to it.
Well as a player of DoD since 1.3b and a poster on the old DoD fourms I would have to say these are my major gripes with the new things the DoD team has introduced
Death cam-Lets gimp the Mg further by making him move after every kill! Auto-reload-We all now how hard it is to press ONE extra button to reload..... it also disallows the posibilty of swiching weapons/using bayonet when ammo runs out becuase your crosshair will disapear when reloading/ also makes it impossible to relocate as an Mg when you run dry/also can give away your position when you are behind enemy lines Grenades on the minimap-........... Icons above players heads-Completely elminates the possiblity of sneaking around behind enemy lines Moving while scoped-Psshhh...... shouldn't have to explain this one
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->I kid you not, in Avalanche there has to be least 15 sniper nests, about 4 of which give you so much cover its laughable.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> Avalanche is definitely <b>not</b> a sniping map. In the nests where your cover is "laughable" so is your field of view, and your flank is open. Ironically the best sniping position might be the balcony above 2nd Axis flag, where you are completely out in the open. Avalanche is won by controlling the insides of the buildings, not by snipers. Automatic weapons shine on this map. All the chokepoint maps like Heutau that <b>were</b> sniper's paradise are gone for good for that very reason. The maps that remain have an almost insane number of little back alleys which allow you to get behind every enemy position. If you know that they exist, that is. Looking at your minimap should help you plot a route to ambush the sniper. <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Grenades on the minimap-..........<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> Grenades were overused anyway. No fun to die by a little thingy you had no chance to see. Most people replaced their grenade rolling sound with a loud gong for that very reason. This is a fine example that the DoD team does not pursue realism, and in fact never did. Only some of their fans do, but the team wants enjoyable gameplay above everything else. <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Moving while scoped-Psshhh...... shouldn't have to explain this one<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> Yes, you should, unless you're trying to imply that walking at slow speed while your field of view is extremely limited sounds like a promising tactic. If you, of all things, choose light brown and dark grey as your team colours, it is imperative that you implement a feature to tell the teams apart. Team skins which look too similar are a problem in many online games.

The bolt action now takes longer between shots making its ROF slower. So I'm confused how its become unbalanced.
I have to give my two cents here and say that I am pretty much in agreement with the masses here.
I love a lot of what they did to the game. But I have to say that the moving while scoped is kinda a load of garbage. Besides that the gameplay is great. Its a game that should be best played with proper teamwork and will own.
Yes...they did dumb it down quite a bit for a public release, but hey..who did not see that comming(Anyone....anyone...?). Yah, it has a lot of new features and some are good while some are baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. But hey, I played it for a couple of hours and it was pretty fun. I dont quite get the whole "railgun" comparisons everyone is making....
To those of you that have not been shot before, most guns are pretty much 1 round kills if they use decent cali rounds. The StG 44 would lay out anyone here in one round most likely, unless you took it in the arm or leg. The Kar98 would tear off you arm for that matter. Of course its a 1 hit kill in game. Its reload time is what makes it balanced.
Now I do agree that there aere some problems with it however. First of all...all crosshairs should have sway for a few seconds after you stop moving.... It takes a second to "sight" you target.
But as I saw someone state eariler "gameplay >> realism". I can agree with that, but what if the realism is what gives it great gameplay. I kinda like the authentic ww2 feel of DoD and I really think that 1.0 lost it. It is more digestable for the public I guess....ah well.
yea it's still a good game. But people take pleasure in hating new things, saying VALVe sucks and they are so cool for liking older versions, so they can actually say they were in the older versions. (Looks cooler when you're a vet I suppose <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->)
I've been a dod clan player from 1.3b till when I started playing Natural selection the night it came out. I was pretty excited for 1.0, and i thought it might rekindle my love for a game that stole countless hours from me. It did, but i've got some serious gripes about it.
-Auto reload is horrible. I liked being able to choose when i reload, it always kicks in when i don't want it too. -The BAR bipod is too slow, makes it nearly useless, and way too dangerous when in high danger situations. -Tommy sounds like a laser gun. -The new scoring system is a little funky, totally neglects the older holding system for a when ever the flag changes hands you get a point. It does reward big cap bonuses though, which the clan community has been pushing for a while. -Some wierd glitches like walking through walls that should be solid, etc. -They didn't test the clan settings AT ALL. mp_restartround is broken totally, and although they are fixing it at the moment, it's still pretty friggin' bad that they never tested it. (That's why I'm so enthralled with the Veterns PT'ing for ns. Solves those problems.) -Stupid autoguns by the spawns. You don't get enough warning on some maps. I've gotten NAILED several times when i wandered somewhere i wasn't supposed to be. -Nerfed MG. It shoots one bullet instead of 2 like before.
It's got a bunch of things that are better though -SMG's are now the rulers of close quarters, while the rifles rule the open air. The guns now serve their purposes, like they are supposed to. -Environment effects (SNOW! RAIN!) are freaking amazing. Almost worth the 5-10 fps hit i get when leaving them on (cl_particlefx 0 for all off, 1 for just rain/snow off, 2 for all on) -The _ah dog. Annoying, but usefull for the noobies, so I'll let him slide by (_ah 0 to turn off) -The rocket launcher is not a **** weapon. It's just for objectives. They pulled that one off perfectly. -New objective maps, no longer just capping flags. Actually, most of the new maps are extremly cool, Vicenza is AWESOME. It didn't get included in the client dl on accident or on purpose, but you can dl it. Just check the dodmod forums, they have it avalible. - I'm not a sniper user, but I did try it out. I was really impressed that they put dirt and scratches on the scope. It was a cool immersion thing. -The new sounds are great. Just give yourself some time to get used to them. -The many times i've played the pacing has been just perfect. It almost seemed to get back to the run-and-gun attitude of 1.3 with the major graphical update of 2.0 and 1.0.
I've lost the quote, but one of the devs (Moltov_Billy?) said that it was idiotic to put in a feature jsut because it was realistic. DoD has for a long time been walking a very tight rope between realism and gameplay. That's one the reasons I don't post much on their forums, you get shouted down for saying that just because it's realistic it should be in the game.

And does the thomson look weird to you? :/
And does the thomson look weird to you? :/ <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
I have that problem too.
They're propagated to your teammates only. They'll see a flashing "!" when you mark the map. The feature is quite hidden though (is it even in the manual?), so that explains why nobody is using it yet.

The Kar98 was always like that. It was (and still is) one of the most accurate rifles. But it's bolt action and therefore slow.
(I like the Enfield personally)
Incorrect. Kar98 and Enfield are one shot kills on any hitbox. Garand is one shot kill on chest and head.

Actually, it was worse than this before.
A sniper hunkers down... you can't find him... now if he kills you, you get to see EXACLTY where he is.
The only way this complaint is valid is if he moved from postion to position each time he killed you.

First with the new death cam (which Im not a huge fan of but what ever) you should be able to avoid the sniper after the first death. Second, your mad b/c someone killed you with one shot from far away? HOLY CRAP THATS NOT WHAT A SNIPER DOES! use team work, learn from you mistakes and quite bitching about firing you machine gun randomly and getting sniped.
Also WTH does everyone blame valve for this release? they barely touched the gameplay (the bar is the only noticable change, that and nades don't go as far) and they improved the graphics, and included a few small changes like the map and icons, if thats all it takes to ruin a game for you then your going to be one very unhappy person.
Welcome to the DoD forums. They've become rather elitist and flame ready in those forums. You would have had your topic (and probably your account) banned if your first post was a complaint. They don't allow complaints to go far on those forums. It's only happy "DoD is great" topics that get anywhere. Posting there would have been pointless. Nobody in any real power looks on those things frequently anyway. Only topics started by developers really have a chance of getting an answer from anyone important. Everything else is locked.
[/edit]

Lindstrom, the first 3 lines show that i was killed by a sniper.
the nest 3 lines show that i hid behind a box, so that that same sniper couldn't get me.
*DING* & Black screen - means that i was hit by not "Sniper A" <i>but by "Sniper B"</i>
The 3 lines after that suggest that i have hid from BOTH "Sniper A" AND "Sniper B" while "Sniper C" promptly rips my head apart.
after those 3 lines i change class to the Heavy Weapons Gu... erm, The Machine Gunner and (presumably) start firing indescriminantly at "Sniper A", and perhaps "Sniper B" and "Sniper C"s spots, too. Then, presumably again, "Sniper D" takes me out.
Medhead you're prolly right too. "G3t 0U7 U NUB" is what they would prolly say to anyone new. Pathetic.
FYI, i was a good player, running in groups, giving people ammo/MG ammo, mowing them down nicely with my machine gun, etc... Then 3.1 comes along and its impossible. Every tower, every window, every mound you hear the same mechanical shot, echoing indefinately throughout the level, and countless *ding*ings on your squad. Soon you're the onl... no, now there's no one left to take the rush on the point thats controlled by no one.
However, I think you should have left them out.
This is mainly due to one fact.
Your obvious lack of research into THE BLOODY BRITISH FLAG YOU MORONS!
Example A (taken from DoD site Manual):
<img src='http://www.dayofdefeatmod.com/manual_images/640_enfield.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
Example B(look for yourself):
Load up a game with dod_caen and notice the British flags.
Example C:
<img src='http://www.jdawiseman.com/papers/union-jack/union-jack.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
That is what it should look like. You can learn how to draw it <a href='http://www.jdawiseman.com/papers/union-jack/union-jack.html' target='_blank'>here.</a>
I mean FFS its your first result when you google search Union Jack. I'm on about the cross of St. Patrick, the diagonal red cross, I mean come on its bad enough when people in my country hang it upside down but when you totally balls it up it isn't even funny.
Oh and WTH is with the bagpipes?

I would be nicer if ppl took the time to visit the DOD forums and read the developers postings. They DIDN'T change the runspeed or the weapons dmg, they improved the graphics, added British soldiers, different crosshairs, and changed the recoil on the Bar. I'm just sick and tired of ppl bitching how VALVe did this and VALVe screwed that. Its basically the same friggin game.

THANK YOU!
Now, Josiah Bartlet, no offence. But no one gives a ****. I mean have 49 Start on the Flag, no one cares. If you're really going to get mad at it, look for a Model Replacement.
Maveric, it seems as though you've been playing games and picking the wrong teams.
Death cam-Lets gimp the Mg further by making him move after every kill!
Auto-reload-We all now how hard it is to press ONE extra button to reload..... it also disallows the posibilty of swiching weapons/using bayonet when ammo runs out becuase your crosshair will disapear when reloading/ also makes it impossible to relocate as an Mg when you run dry/also can give away your position when you are behind enemy lines
Grenades on the minimap-...........
Icons above players heads-Completely elminates the possiblity of sneaking around behind enemy lines
Moving while scoped-Psshhh...... shouldn't have to explain this one
Avalanche is definitely <b>not</b> a sniping map.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Grenades on the minimap-..........<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Grenades were overused anyway.

Yes, you should, unless you're trying to imply that walking at slow speed while your field of view is extremely limited sounds like a promising tactic. You'd pick a "railgun" rifle for these situations, not the sniper.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Icons above players heads-Completely elminates the possiblity of sneaking around behind enemy lines<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't think it really matters what this change eliminates. If you, of all things, choose light brown and dark grey as your team colours, it is imperative that you implement a feature to tell the teams apart. Team skins which look too similar are a problem in many online games.
Actually your right, but only in the fact that the Kar was altered, it was slowed down. The bolt action now takes longer between shots making its ROF slower. So I'm confused how its become unbalanced.
Its still a good game.
Solves those problems.)
-Stupid autoguns by the spawns. You don't get enough warning on some maps. I've gotten NAILED several times when i wandered somewhere i wasn't supposed to be.
-Nerfed MG. It shoots one bullet instead of 2 like before.
It's got a bunch of things that are better though
-SMG's are now the rulers of close quarters, while the rifles rule the open air. The guns now serve their purposes, like they are supposed to.
-Environment effects (SNOW! RAIN!) are freaking amazing. Almost worth the 5-10 fps hit i get when leaving them on (cl_particlefx 0 for all off, 1 for just rain/snow off, 2 for all on)
-The _ah dog. Annoying, but usefull for the noobies, so I'll let him slide by (_ah 0 to turn off)
-The rocket launcher is not a **** weapon.
All in all i think it's a good release. I'm looking forward to them fixing some things in the impending 1.1 dod though.
