    Not the HUD you've got to remember it is a game.

    If DoD went for the whole realism thing you'd be using iron sights, fall down with one bullet shot, Get deafened by explosions, not have a clue where you are going, wouldn't respawn (ever again), have weapon jams, get sand in your mouth, be unable to communicate with your whole team at once. If I wanted a real war (Or near enough) I'd go and play Operation Flashpoint (Which I also own)

    But this isn't a war as such. So they need not include these things. What I meant was if you stood, crouched whatever is sounds and looks more like any WW2 game I have ever played. Gunshots degrade in sound over distance, bullets ping realistically off walls and what have you. The simple thing is that the game is made for fun. I like the minimap because I can see where I'm going, I like the icons because I don't shoot friends up the butt. And I like the fast running (And lets face it you'd be running a lot in a warzone) because in 3.1 it used to take ages to get to a fight and then some cretin would shoot you and then your all the way back to the start. Woo! great fun

    And thanks for not flaming, We need more people like you here!


    Anyway, just came back after a quick go on dod_charlie and, erm, wow. That level is teh win! (Mmmm Multiple explosions)

    Does anyone remember the maps dod_hill or dod_omaha? Those maps freaking owned and they took them out a long time ago...I was so **** off! Some of the earlier versions were more fun IMO, but I'll try 1.0 anyway.

    hated omaha, simply because you could llama the hell out of it

    loved Hill though

    I don't really know what to think about 1.0...
    On one hand, it's fun and has pretty graphics, and sweet sounds.

    Then theres the other stuff.
    New Xhair is ugly as heck, every server i've played on has been lagged into the stone age on most maps *2.0 flashbacks*, and the minimap LOOKS really cool and is fun but it does not belong in DoD at all... Showing enemy nades on the map? How lame is that? Basically the game has been beaten into a n00b-ready state, and beats out all the reminence of the old DoD with it. Another complaint I have is that some of the models just plain suck, and the particle effects lag my computer (which runs NS with all IT'S pretty effects at 100fps constantly) down to >20fps when there are a lot of particles on the screen.

    I do like the new addition of the british though, brings a little variety to the same old maps and some of the new ones. And like I said, the new sounds are GREAT (barring a couple of the weapon sounds) and are generally very realistic. Unfortunately that's the only realism left in the game at all.

    look, its a simple fact ...

    the easier a game is to play, the more people who will ultimatly buy the game. Some will be suckers looking for a good game, others will be 12 year olds who dont know the difference between tin foil and polyethylene ..

    Valve is trying to sell the game. You reach much more of a market if you dumb the game down, while keeping the look the same.

    I'm currently downloading 1.0 and have yet to play it. I'm not really expecting anything, so I'll just roll with the punches.

    as a side note, I kind of liked the para maps in the last update. Everyone kept saying "ohh .. they ripped off CS they ripped off CS! wahhhh"

    wonder if it ever occured to any of them that perhaps they were trying to add a new game play style? One that didnt have wave after wave of pointless lives to toss away?

    everyone was still stuck in the idea that "oh, I'll just rush this n00b because I'll respawn in 3 seconds"

    Now what WOULD be cool, is if they did it Command & Conquer style, and let you like roam around the map at an angle or something and be able to put structures down. Kinda like NS, but with a commander for each team and a war feel (and no having to make structures, you would just guide troops around and maybe call in airstrikes and stuff).

    dod_omaha sucked and I never liked to play dod_hill. Dod_caen's my level, my *****.

    Its just we have all been playing NS so long, we are used to acutal gameplay and not a huge World War 2 themed deathmatch.

    Its laughable, my worst games in NS have been better then in DoD. Shoot a guy 5 times, pfft, he caps you once in the head while moving. MGs? Useless.

    I played it twice, its going to the recycle bin now.

    For one, you're lieing. You'll never survive 5 shots from anything in DoD. Capping you in one hit? Sure, welcome to the world of realism. Karabiner98 kills in one hit, like most of the weapons, K98Scoped was what probably killed you. It didn't have a "Sway" effect on it in previous versions so Un-Scoped Sniping happened. So if you were running with it, it had perfect Accuracy.

    NS is predictable ATM, DoD is not.

    Same here, loved Hill. Especially on the Allies side. run up to the side, and if you're lucky you're not noticed. Bomb the wall, go in, slaughter the snipers...

    Wasn't that before the MG's existed?

    hmm I started playing when they had that "auto" sniper rifle for the Axis, and I pretty much stopped before they got that rifle for the Allies. M1 was it? I restarted with 1.0 <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->


    edit: and Venmoch, the players make NS so predictable. Yesterday we had a game with Sensory/movement/def (in that order.. We never really got def) and it was really fun. And as marine, who tells you to always go for the same strat? I've been seeing only JP+HMG rush that you get called a noob for saying let's change a bit let's do a [insert something] such as HA+welder (my favrite <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->) HA+shot with an HA+lmg, etc.
    It's not the game's fault you always play the same way. Pubs are made to have fun, so change a bit. Some of the best games are the games you lose while trying something cool.

    One of my favorite maps was the one where you ran into the church as allies, stole the documents, and ran back to your truck, while the axis had to find the key, the bomb in the cabnit, then jump down an BOOM. I liked hill too. That was always fun sniping people from the side. There were some other cool maps, olso was pretty good.

    after playing dod 1.0 for quite a number of hours, I approve of it.

    there are some things I dont particularly care for .. such as the new sounds and there are new things I particularly like .. such as the new player models - even the animations ..

    kept shooting people in the head, they'd just kinda crumple over ... it looked pretty damn sweet.

    new particles rock ..

    all in all, I like it overall and I'll continue playing it.

    I've had pretty much the same problem. Yet when I say "I think we ought to try this" the rest of the team says no we'll do it the old fasioned and surefire way.

    I'm just distancing myself from the predictability of 1.04 to something that is a little more dynamic <b>at the moment</b>

    I'm sure when 1.1 comes out I'll start playing Ns loads again.

    in 3.1, sniper sway while standing was almost impossable to get a hit, and it was good that way.

    in 3.1, if you moved with your scope on, it would take it off

    in 3.1, if you JUMPED with your scope on, it would take it off

    in 3.1, sniper were a challenge to master

    WHY VALVE WHY!!!! oh i know, SELL OUT!

    it was a game of semi realism, an it was most importaint ORIGINAL

    i really could not stand it after 2 nights of playing, i am tired of games dumbing down a game just for sales, or adding stuff that was in another game just becuase that game sold more... i am starting to see a dusturbing trend in FPS

    I just played the game today, and well.... It rocked my world.

    I have tried DOD once before, and I was totally confused with the recyl. I'm not sure if it is just me, but this time the recyl seems right. And the game is simply sweet.

    I'm not sure about what they have done with the sounds, but the game still sounds awesome. Los, los, los! All the firing and everything... The game is near perfect as it is now.

    I also like the selecting your weaponry better now. It was confusing to first select the class and then the weapon. Now It's a lot better.

    I haven't gotten to play it too much yet, but my initial impressions are good. I really like their minimap for soldiers, and the ability for players to add new markings onto it! I'm not sure if those markings get propagated to other players or not though (seems like they would have to, but I never noticed).

    I thought it was interesting to see all the help text ("you just killed an enemy") and that will probably go a long way towards helping new players.

    Overall, congrats DOD team, you did it.

    Edit: BTW Flayra bout the help text in NS is it going to be fixed? it isnt truely accurate.

    I love the new DoD. Just got done playing it and it also gets my kudos.

    Anyone notice the gamespy stats for it? It now has 8,000 players on 1,300 servers.... they like doubled their players!

    i like DoD.... but flayra... if you ever let valve touch your mod.... i'll have to kill valve so you cant let them touch it again... i don't want to see NS being Valve-iesed.....

    i just came off it too after quite along time playing and i have to say it has manny gud points and just a few (but important) bad ones.

    I like:
    New player models + annims
    New maps - Especialy forest (that maps so damn cool lookin)
    The mini map which does share info and comes in alot of handy on maps such as charlie and forest
    Alot of the new sounds ( not all though)
    new effects ( -stunning- )
    The bazzoka/Piat/Panzazriek ( i cant spell it lol)

    I did not like:
    Sniper changes
    No splash dammage for bazzuka
    seems unballanced on sum maps - that snow map (Not kolt)
    It seemed more arcadie not like the dod i knew
    Nades on minimap (sux)

    Therefore overall i give it about 7/10 cos its different and just as enjoyable + beter 4 begginers)

    no, it's 'Panzerschreck'.
    'Panzer' means 'tank' and 'Schreck' 'shock' in german -> 'tankshock'

    (and yes, I know you weren't serious with the analogy on Shreck)
