Maybe if enough folks ask for it, they can add it to a paid expansion pack next year.

I'd much rather have a sub which is intermediate in size between the seamoth and the cyclops.

Maybe a two-seat cargo sub with a controllable arm/drill (or something along those lines)?

Yeah, we know all about the Atlas model.

    https://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/144386/bigger-submarine-concept-my-own-3d-model/p1

I'm pretty sure if it was practical, everyone would want to have it, but it's just too big to fit anywhere besides the Dunes.

We really don't need a sub bigger than the Cyclops, and I don't think we ever really will.

Adding another sub depends on a number of factors

1-what is it going to provide that other vehicles don't
    2-unique mechanics

    Etc

    So far we have everything

Seamoth: fast agile transportation method with upgrades that boosts it's capabilities

Cyclops: a moving base with extreme utility potential through it's upgrades makes you not in need of a base at all

Exosuit: a powerful mechsuit with high durablility and with customizable arms that allows it to get out of any tough situation situation

So the question is what will the atlas provide that these three vehicles cannot?

one thing that the Atlas brings to the table is that fact that it is a mobile base minus the moon pool but that is not the point chances are that it will be more for the multiplay mode with it being able to carry both your seamoth and prawn suit and go deeper than the cyclopes and would most likely be able to take you to the bottom of the dead zone ( the dead zone is 400-3000 m down around the map and is were you would most likely find any remains of sea emperors or wild sea emperors and maybe the one you meet in the containment facility would have you escort her young to their ancestral home were maybe you will find another mountain with other survivors who have either the blueprints for the Neptune rocket and that is how you escape or there are the last surviving precursors who after giving them the enzyme 42 help you escape or give you a map of all the places were the outbreak has forced them to put the quarantine in place before you escape the planet and then that could lead to a second game were you find your self in a similar situation on a totally new planet, for example, a desert or an ice planet or a jungle planet the possibilities are endless but you can get my point the atlas would be more for traveling of the top of the volcano yes the entire game is on top of a dormant volcano that has not erupted in militias to find other reefs or for multiplayer and yes they're going to add it they have said that when they finish up a few thing they are going to polish up one of the multiplayer mods and yes they have selected the one they are going to polish

No dude, They are NOT going to Officially Add any kind of Multiplayer/Coop to the game.

Why is this so hard for some people to understand?

There is a Mod being worked on by a person who does not work for Unknown Worlds, but it IS NOT and WILL NOT BE added to the game by the Dev's.

And every time the game is updated by the DEV's, it is most likely that the Mod being created by someone not affiliated with UWE, will have to be adjusted to actually work again.

At this point if you look at the Thread below, which talks about this Mod, it's not even ready to be tested by the general public yet.

Well... no. Not at all, really. The cyclops is already hard enough to maneuver, repair, and maintain with its colossal size.

Cool in concept, lame in practice.

I could see the Atlas being used in a post-launch expansion. If, for example, they decided to model the Dead Zone after the deep ocean instead of leaving it as an infinite drop off then a larger sub for deep ocean exploration could be viable... but as the game and map are right now there is no need for the Atlas. The only other use for it would be a cosmetic variation of the cyclops, but that would just seem like a waste of developer resources at this point in time.

You know I kind of wish this game was a full priced title with a much larger team because I love the idea of the Atlas. However the sub is simply TOO LARGE for the current game world. We would need the void to be explorable ocean, with depths the Cyclops can't reach, but even then what would the Atlas bring that the Cyclops doesn't? Why not just make the Cyclops go deeper? I imagine the Atlas being for even longer excursions and so it should have features that serve that purpose.
    • Carry multiple small craft (Seamoth/PRAWN)
    • Be able to power bases with the Atlas via power transmitters
    • Possibly able to recharge the sub by surfacing via solar power (good time to make use of those beds and get some rest while it charges)
    • Able to fit water filtration systems
    • Possible sonar mapping and drones (like scanner rooms)
    • Some type of acoustic system attracting or deterring certain creatures

More than the Atlas I want the kind of game Subnautica would have to be for the Atlas to be in it. I really hope this game is successful enough for them to continue to expand on it, but the bigger it gets the more I'm wanting some kind of co-op for it.

Reason for the atlas to not be in the game
    1. It's too dam big: the atlas is about 20m tall and nearly 100m long (don't know the exact put it's my rough estimate) this will render it completely useless in areas that have closed spaces, leaving only seatreaders path and the dunes.
    2. It's too dam big: internally the cyclops is just big enough to have many features but also compact enough that it's difficult to fit everything it. The atlas would suffer from the same problem most bases have where it's mainly just corridors and filler cat posters.
    3. There was the "incident"
    4. The sea in subnautica isn't supposed to be conquered @blizz2415 , the whole point of survival is th struggle of trying to stay alive. Even with a cyclops there's always the issue of water so it can't be lived in permanently and there you are "julian-ing" on about how you want guns, multiplayer and the atlas served on a silver platter.
    5. Power: it's irritating to power the cyclops without a power cell charger the atlas is twice the size so it would use twice the power.
    6. Bringing along a seamoth and exosuit would be pointless as a exosuit can survive much better depths, temperatures and creature attacks.

Ok now that rant is over. The atlas is a good concept but in practice falls flat 3/10 would not submarine again.

I dont really see much point to be honest.

    1. Cyclops is used for two things
    a. mobile base to allow the mining of various areas after which you can carry the whole thing back to base
    b. To transport you to the lava zone with all the things that you will need along the way

I think the sea moth and the exosuit are great as they are I would say the biggest problem with the Cyclops at the moment is that the space is still a little rubbish needs more lockers though you can build enough yourself I dont really like the way you do this though and that you cannot carry both sea moth and Prawn.

Basically for grabbing metal or for exploring things not insanely deep seamoth is better and if your Cyclops ever runs out of batteries and you need to return to the base to charge your power cells then you would be forced to swim yourself as Prawn is really slow. Overall I would redo the Cyclops in a way that you can fit both this is the only thing that is currently annoying otherwise there isnt a point in a bigger sub.

@phantomfinch first of if you remember one of the first messages that you get is that you will no receive help for 11 years that and yes the thing is huge and that is the point it is meant to be big it is a mobile base yes it is way to fucking big for the safe shallows and that is because it is more endgame yes it will suck power and power cell but who the fuck cares (pardon my language) I think it would be a great addition and it would be great for multiplayer and maybe for the dead zone too so either agree or hold it in because I will hold my ground on where I stand thank you very much

@Nestorius you can ad the thermal power to you prawn sute and the thurmal to the cyclopes so when you enging is runing hot you can charge the cells and when your in the active and inactive lava zones you can use the prawn suit to act as a moble batary charger for closer to the survce you can put on the solare charger on the seamoth and it can act as a charger as well

I like it. But it's too big. It require to remodel the LR, ILZ, and LL. I'd also make it a upgrade to the cyclops. You need the Cyclops built to build the Atlas. So that it doesn't make the Cyclops pointless, by skipping it.

So this is just a "What If" kinda thread then...

Cause what you want, according to the Dev's, is never going to happen.

In that case, I'd like to be able to make friends with the Sea Dragon Leviathan, climb on it's back and have it take me anywhere I want in the game.

I'm gonna call him PUFF and bring him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff.

I'd sell any Atlas for a tiny dingy boat, to replace (early) the Seaglide and allow more vertical dive section early.
    https://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/152013/improving-early-game-travel-to-the-aurora
No point elaborating a lot on why I don't support much the Atlas.
Although it's pretty and I would grind the entire ocean to build one, it's simply don't fit the game.
The current depth aren't big enough for it.
It would make seabase useless when we already lack a better gameplay for those (OXYGEN WHEN?)

That Atlas model in particular is too high poly to actually put in the game, it would take a lot of optimization to actually get performance friendly enough to put in the game. Even then, we don't even need the atlas sub in the game, reasons for which have been amply highlighted by other people in the thread above.

It would be only good when inplemented as a boat instead of a sub. The exact same concept, just that it floats and can't be submerged.

If it is a boat that only floats, then it will definitely never be included in a game called Subnautica... Maybe if they DEVs created a game called Boatnautica or Shipnautica... (I always get boats and ships confused). :)

Well, technically a submarine is a boat. They were called U-boats in the great war. And all Subnautica subs float, in opposition to the PRAWN which sinks to the sea floor and treads over it.
And regarding differences between boats and ships, it really is confusing. As far as I'm concerned there's, currently, no formal definition setting both apart. If it's big it is a ship, if it's small it is a boat and it kinda get blurred in the middle.

That said, I would most definitely play a game named Boatnautica.

I think the Atlas is a great concept art but the game is not ready for it (yet)!
I would prefer a boat on the water which is:
    - faster (because it is on the water)
    - capable of storing a Seamoth/Prawn and a Cyclops
    - capable of pulling away the escape pod

And here are some other random ideas:
    - be able to repair the aurora for hundreds of materials
and go home with it ; )
    - be able to swap designs for all models (Cyclops looks like the Atlas --> I would be satisfied because as I mentioned earlier I love the Atlas design...
