Lauching Subnautica: IMPOSSIBLE!!

Hi,
Since the Bones Update, this lovely game begin to be worse and worse: bad FPS, decors that appears at the last moment, many crashes in-game and today, it's impossible to launch the game!! I know Subnautica is a E.A. but it was more stable 2/3 months ago.
I'm in eperimental mode and before this update, the game run relatively correctly... But it was before :-(

They are fixing the impossible to launch issue, stay tuned. Once that has been fixed:

Back up your saved game folder, (the slot000x folder in Subnautica\SNAppData) then try the cache cleaning trick in my signature.

If that helps, then put your old save game folder back (temporarily, don't worrry!), play until it crashes, and then follow this guide to send the bad folder to the devs. Then they will have more info on what's causing the crashes and bad performance.

Subnautica Experimental is currently broken, we will fix ASAP. If you need s stable experience, play the stable version. Experimental WILL BREAK from time to time as it's our live development build.

Hey, Can I just point out that a couple of months ago (at least in my case) there was kind of a movement that let people falsely believe that the experimental branch was safer than it apparently is. There was some un official forum posts recommending people to swap to experimental, and then there was the whole VR thing that made me jump to experimental. Perhaps it is time for you, the devs, to host a crossover period that allows people to move back from experimental to safe?

And honestly, you do test your builds before releasing them, even tho they are experimental, right? It just seems lately that things have taken a turn for the worse with regards to that...

All builds to experimental are Live Development builds, they are not tested at all, as most are automaticly generated.

Which is why it's now been labeled "Automatic Daily update - lots of bugs!" experimental is our LIVE development build. You're playing it a we make it so you will always have the most up-to-date new features, no closed curtains. But the price is that it's unstable.

The 'stable' build is the build which is playtested internally & by the playtest team which is why we do releases to it sparingly and only after a lot of testing.

I'm not in experimental mode and I can't get back to my base without it crashing. In addition, I can't move 15 feet without it crashing and I'm in 'stable' mode soooo :p?? A few factors may be that my base is huge and the bulkheads are still broken and can't be used. Please make the game stable again, I frekin' love it!

    @cazmakill

Use the guide in my signature, and upload your entire save game directory to the devs.

    Then clear your cache.

I dunno if other people tell you guys(the developers) this often enough. I want to express that I really appreciate how invested your team is in the game's development process. Whenever I see other people commenting "When's it gonna be done?" "Ugh, so buggy" etc... I feel like they don't understand just how much effort is put into game design. I'm glad you guys have the patience to deal with all of that nonsense. Loving this game! Keep up the good work! ;)<3

Yes but for me, driving seamoth is totally impossible (the camera turn into the seamoth) and I lost my save (it appear in Subnautica's folder but not in the main menu) :'(

Always a good idea to do a cache clean when a big update hits. Even if Subnautica still works, you won't get most of the benefits from the update unless you either cache clean or start a new save, at least in my experience.

i can't drive seamoth properly because the camera turn into the seamoth, same with cyclops but i can still drive it even when it not like it used too before. I already try to create a new save file..but still with the same (seamoth control) problem (both experimental and stable)

I had this exact error, and as @0X6A7232 says, you can fix it by clearing you game cache files. There are some side effects in doing so which I'll try to explain first. I used this guide http://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/145963/temporary-fix-for-recent-crashes-build-40062#latest also from @0X6A7232.

When you build base buildings close to terrain or over terrain or on terrain, the game does automatic terraforming if the buildings and terrain intersect, removing the sea floor or mountains out of your buildings. This terraforming is saved in your cache files. If you simply remove all cache and let your game regenerate the files, all that terraforming (and placement of your rescue capsule) will be reset. That means that your base rooms can be (when ever there was terraforming) filled with seabed or mountains or seabed vegetation.

There are two ways of fixing this.
    • When deleting cache files, follow the guide and note down the grid files that your base belongs to, and skip removing these. The consequence of this is that the terrain on this grid location will be old (not follow updates and be out of sync, possibly causing some problems at some point) - but this will save your base in its original state with all the terraforming.
    • What I did, I removed all files, and then I rebuilt my base rooms again where they used to be. A little more manual and labor intensive, but you are sure to have all fresh and updated terrain data in the game. This only works well if your base is build with little terraforming. If a you have a lot of terraforming you should go with the other alternative or completely rebuild your base - as posted in the thread linked above, you can use the in game item "Terraformer" to heal and fix your base as well.

And one last note, this thread was created in response to a different problem (the game refused to start for a period) but you probably noted this.
