In Game Sentivity and DPI

Just curious what majority of the player uses. All are welcome, whether you can't hit the broad side of a barn or track down lerks like a champ.

DPI: 1170
In game sensitivity: 6.53
Takes about 5cm movement to do a 360.

Funny, I was considering making the same thread a few days ago. :)

    DPI: 300
    Ingame Sens: 6.88
    360: 20 cm

Mouse: Logitech G400s (went optical cuz apparently theyr better on cloth pads/no acceleration like laser mouses)
    Mousepad: Steelseries Qck+ (45x40 cm)

    Acceleration: Disabled
Different sens for Y and X axis: No
Changing DPI for different lifeforms/weapons: No
Same 360 for other games: Yeah, so far. I don't play Quake or stuff tho.

Software stuff: MarC Mouse acceleration remover - tho disabling it in Windows + the Logitech software probably already did the trick.

Current Skill level: Non-competive. Went 48-6 lerking yesterday, but that was by far my best game of the month (+had good com & team).

Got all this stuff (new mouse, pad, software, disabling acceleration) about a week ago.
Was a bit akward at first but feels good now.
Apparently 20cm 360 still isnt too low-sens for NS2, was worried about that.

Before that I was using a generic cheapo mouse for ~6 months (Mouseman dual optical cable finally broke after >10y of heavy use) with a pad that's best described as "rubber" - insane friction. About 5cm 360, win acceleration on + hardware mouse acceleration.

Before my mose broke I had 8000dpi with 1.05. I don't know how much that is for a 360, but it's in the range of 5cm.
I'm using an aluminum mousepad which is just sooo smooth. Feels great :D

    DPI: 800
    In-game: 1.5 (Used to use 0.75)
    Accel: Off!

People can give you advice on what settings to use, and what mice to use. However, don't copy someone else's DPI/Sensitivity. Everyone is different and you need to find what works for you. I used to use .75 Sensitivity in-game but due to my wrist having issues moving to the right and picking up without losing the mouse, I had to move to a higher sensitivity where I do that less.

Having acceleration off is usually best, but you can learn to play with it. Make sure windows setting is 6/11 and "pointer precision" is off. Also, make sure raw-input is on, and vertical sync is off.

Also should consider desktop sens :p

    DPI: 2700
    Desktop: 6/11
    In-Game: .85 (rines), 1.4 (aliens)

I still use my old faithful Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace cloth mousepad from my super-pro CS 1.0/1.3 days. Takes about one flick side-to-side for a full 360 as rines, half as much for aliens.

That should ALWAYS be 6/11, otherwise windows is going to f*ck with pixels ;)

    5 cm for a 360?

5cm in real life mouse movement to do 360 turn in game.
It's slightly lower, but it's nice on my wrists since it doesn't require much movement.

that x cm for a 360 doesn't mean anything in ns2 because you need less distance when your mouse is moving faster (yes I checked my acceleration is off). Try a 360 moving your mouse slowly and after that try a 360 moving your mouse fast. there should be a difference

    Mouse: Logitech G500

    In-game: 1
    Marine DPI: 1200
    Alien DPI: 2200

    360 as Marine: ~40 cm

(And of course it's 6/11 in Windows and acceleration is off everywhere and raw input is enabled.)

My aim improved a lot when i changed to these settings. I used to have a much higher sensitivity. I also felt a subjective increase in aim when I went from 1,6 in-game and a 1800 (Marine) dpi to my current settings. Even though the 360-movement was the same.

Just tried that in Sandbox mode, moving my mouse as fast as I was able to - still no acceleration.
Did you actually test your acceleration in windows too?
Because with my old mouse I did disable acceleration in windows - but still had hardware acceleration from my mouse. Tho that was noticeable in win as well as in games.

Question: What is this 6/11 in Windows setting people are commenting about?

It's the mouse pointer speed in Windows. It's set to 6 out of 11 by default so if you haven't touched it, it's already in the right setting. Setting it to any other level means that you lose a 1-to-1 mouse movement.

I think I found my mouse acceleration problem: I already disabled it in ns2, windows7 and windows 7 registry (yes I did that before already @halfofaheaven)

however it was still enabled in my logitech mouse settings (third party program that everyone should know who uses a logitech mouse).

my computer is busy atm doing stuff but I will test it later and post here if it worked

DPI: 1000 for marines, 1500 for aliens
    raw input
    no acceleration (yay)
    6/11 on windows
    1.71 in game sensitivity

about 22cm for 200° (thats where my mousepad ends)

Sooo, do you lift your mouse when doing a 180? Since you can't perform it going from center of mouse pad to end of mouse pad.

You can buy 90cm mouse mats these days :)

DPI 450 (Zowie AM lowest setting)
    raw input
    no acceleration
    5/11 on windows
    1.50 in game

Which is roughly 60cm for 360 degrees.

I have a question though, how is it possible to have different sensitivities for Marine and Aliens? I would rather have a faster one for Alien play, and a lower one for Marine play.

60cm / 360... how do you even manage to turn corners?

Easily, my mouse mat is 90cm long. Instead of moving my wrist, I move my whole arm at the elbow. The Zowie AM mouse is pretty cool as well, it weighs next to nothing, and you only need to lift it a couple of millimetres to move it without the sensor registering.

Saying that, I could really use a deeper desk, my monitor sits on part of the mat.

@zalamael, you seem to be on the extreme low and I am on the extreme high sensitivity so far.

actually I could when I had mouse acceleration activated, but now... don't know... guess I'm screwed when a skulk is right behind me.

however I could play without mousepad on wooden surface (my desk) but that feels strange

    Mouse: Razer Death Adder

    In-game: 10.4
    1000Hz
    DPI: 3500

I think that is rather high, but I like it that way. Have not tried lower in NS2. I imagine it would otherwise be hard for me to shoot skulks and bite marines in CQC.

That cant be right. Assuming raw input is on... you would have a 1.1419 cm 360. Thats insane if you play on that.

The menu says 10.4 and I do have Raw Input on. Maybe something else is not working? I do not have a ruler around to measure the actual distance... then again... it kinda does feel like a very short one.
