<div class="IPBDescription">A remake project of classic Combat map</div>Here comes another remake project, seems there are never enought of them :-)

This time it is the remake of one of the best combat maps for NS1 - co_Core. Core was appraised by many players for its clever but simple layout, fast gameplay and stunning visuals. I think its a candidate worth a remake, and it will make valuable contribution to currently developed Combat mod for NS2.

Original author of co_Core is Jake "Ekaj" Griffith. The remake was started by Remedy, who decompiled the original and remade the original Ready Room. I've taken the project over. I've contacted original author for permission for this remake and he approved it.

    <img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/62994473/co_core_0004.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    - Also had to replace ladders in Marines Junction with stairs
    - Added return route for non-climbing aliens from bottom central

    Very accurate remake. I dont remember that curved stairwell at the bottom.

    Really looking forward to the greyboxes being textured, will make it easier to hide on the roof.

    I love how detailed the ladder-with-error stripes thing is in this remake. :)

    Actually I had to add some kind of return route from central area for non-ladder-climbing aliens. There are more thing comming in on top of original layout because of the changes in new Combat.

    There will be new version on Steamworks ready for today possible playtest, more info could be found in Combat Steam group <a href="http://steamcommunity.com/groups/ns2combat" target="_blank">http://steamcommunity.com/groups/ns2combat</a>

    Nono no texturing yet. I am prototyping the final layout in greybox. I will start with detailing after I will be sure there will ne no major changes.

    After spending a few hours on combat in this map, I must say that it works impressively well for NS2 combat. The map was one of my NS1 combat favourites, and a lot of that translated over. Keep up the good work ;)

    For those interested in seeing how the map plays, see my video at <a href="http://www.twitch.tv/squirreli/b/334196388" target="_blank">http://www.twitch.tv/squirreli/b/334196388</a>

    Thanks for the video! I have watched it thoroughly and it seems that in classic configuration (Aliens at alien start a marines in MS) plays well and seem quite balanced. From the video, I have seen wins on both sides.

    But I am not sure about the reverse configuration, looks like aliens are loosing more often when starting at MS.

    And how do you find the vent system? Do you think that is good idea to have vents leading from start to start? Or should it consist from few isolated routes?

    I have new version ready, but I cannot test it on my PC, NS2 is keeping freezing when starting local server :-/

    Anyway thanks for you videos, they are very helpfull. If possible, I will be interested in more of them, especially concerning alien gameplay.

    Unfortunatelly I am still having problems running NS2 since 221, but the development of co_Core remake didn't stop! Currently I am remaking the central area. It showed to be quite huge amount of work, so far I have to give it over 100 hours, but finally it starts getting some shape.

    Here are new <b>work in progress</b> shots.

    Any feedback is welcome! How do you like the lighting scheme and new theme so far?

    Lighting theme feels and looks very authentic, I think you've nailed it. It also really looks like a remake, good stuff!

    We have just played quite a few rounds on this map Rudy, and the feedback is it's just too dark. The central area was too hard for marines and aliens to see in, and although Aliens have alien vision, it's not fun to have to use it even if you don't want to. Marine start too is way too dark, the map needs more light!! :D

    Along with numerous bug fixes and minor improvements, I also made a big overhaul of lighting scheme of the whole map. The theme is blue/orange combo now. I have raised the overall brightness but tried to conserve some contrast. I am kinda getting satisfied with the result, it doesn't look so bland.

    Here are few screenshots

    <img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/62994473/co_core12b.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
    <img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/62994473/co_core13b.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
    <img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/62994473/co_core14b.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    Also I've added custom loading screen, however it doesn't show up when playing online. Only when starting local server :(

    Realy nice work, like the remake look but in a new style. GJ there.

    What I would like to see is more use of detailed prop and lightning. But yes, I know its still work in progress ;)

    Keep it up.

    Had many games of combat on this now and it's one of my favourites, the only thing id like to see is the hive area a bit bigger and perhaps expanded out a bit on the left side walk way, i know it's a remake but some things could be improved over the original like that, overall nice work!

    I feel like those aqua-colored lights in the original make the map a little more interesting to look at, have you tried putting some of those in your remake?

    Having just played it for the first time, I have to say it was a nostalgic round of combat. :D

    There has been new update of the map on Steam workshop. I have remade another piece of map - Alien junction. Also I have enhanced the occlusion geometry for improved performance and made some other various adjustments (mainly to alien side, to keep the balance)

    Here is one screenhot of new Alien junction

    <img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/62994473/co_core16b.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    I cant say but I really, really, reeeeeeaaaaally like that style! love the geometry and the pipes.

    For me this is golden piece! (even it is "only" a corridor ^^)

    GJ there, keep it!

    That looks fantastic, reminds me heavily of Alien: Resurrection.

    Thank you everyone for lovely feedback! That corridor was kind of lucky shot, I hope I will be able to reproduce such succes :-). Damm now I feel that I have to work really hard to not let you down with another update . Maybe thats the best motivation :))

    I am planning to set Marines side in blue color, so it could find use there as complementary color.

    Actually, most of it are props, only the arches are brushwork. I think its better to keep them like this for better flexibility.
