No viable marine strat would involve holding one RT for ten minutes. Realistically, the mercy rule can only kick in if marines have been trapped in Marine Start for 10 minutes. And I think we could all agree that marine chance of victory is pretty much zero at that point against an organized alien team.

Note: just placing an RT counts, it doesn't have to be finished or powered. Any RT, built or not, means that marines have at least contested control of a room, so mercy rule is averted. Aliens close out the game by placing cysts/harvesters over FC and Vent and then run out the clock.

The point of the mercy rule to provide a way to "call" an obviously lopsided game early, in a clear way that doesn't require a judgment call, so we can get onto the next match.

Like I said, it's worked well in practice. Sure in pub games, with team stacking, people dropping, and comms being kicked, a comeback is possible. But in organized play, I've never seen a marine team come from that far back.

If you really want to be careful, make the mercy timeout 15 minutes. It's still faster than playing even more matches, and more fair than a coin toss.

So from the looks of things the only map people will be playing is summit, from the rule changes? That's boring.

    And this rule I love,

The use of both client side and server side mods (to game Lua code or otherwise) is expressly forbidden in tournament matches. Any team found to be using any mod will be immediately disqualified from this Tournament.

^^ The point of LUA is you won't know what the other client is doing. So how on Earth do you intend to find out? And then if you find out how can you prove it? A few misconceived and made up IRC logs or photoshop? So shady.
  • playerplayer Join Date: 2010-09-12 Member: 73982Members
That's how it is now. I'm assuming a method of control over what the Lua-scripts of the client look like will be implemented at some point. It's not going to be a free-for-all. But yeah there is no way of enforcing that rule at the moment, a gentlemen's agreement if anything else.

It's the only fully balanced map currently, there are others in the works(decent will be great) but to be fair both teams should vote for map that way theres no odd ends(that's why most will probably be summit).
Also won't be as boring as you think ^^

Why would we wait when the timeline is already tight, we have waited forever and there very small chance that it would even be better.

    Hello everyone,

I am looking for a NS2 team for the tourny if it is not to late. Figured this would be a good place to post since the teams in the tourny would be looking here.

I've been playing competitvely for several years for leagues in CEVO, CAL and still currently in ESEA, as well as other minor leagues (but those are the big 3). In those leagues i have and currently place in the top tier level of compeition for the game Counter-Strike. From that I have developed good aim, communication and in-game smarts. Below are the links to my steam_id history (the esea might require a login).

    <a href="http://www.legit-proof.com/search/?method=guid&query=0%3A1%3A6671465" target="_blank">http://www.legit-proof.com/search/?method=...0%3A1%3A6671465</a>
    <a href="http://esea.net/users/265223?tab=history" target="_blank">http://esea.net/users/265223?tab=history</a>

I have also played plenty of NS1 back in the day when it was still popular, only to the extent of pubbing however. I have also played a decent amount of the NS2 beta and am looking to see the competitive side of things and am willing to put in the time and effort to play at the top level.

If anyone would be interested in playing with me or just looking to talk, you can add me on my steam account.

It's either dmonk09@hotmail.com or dmonk09@gmail.com under the account name hangovur.

I have mumble / vent / teamspeak / mirc as well so dont worry about that.

Also one last note, I am only looking for an established team or a decent group of people who know this game and who currently do scrim's & practices with other teams.

    Holy wall of text :)

Alright, I put the tournament teams in a pretty bracket format:
    <a href="http://imgur.com/FcrHE" target="_blank"><img src="http://i.imgur.com/FcrHEl.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

The blank version is <a href="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5490563/NS2HDTournament_Brackets_Blank.xlsx" target="_blank">here</a> for those who want to fill them out.

Lol UWE vs Cyd in round 1. I was hoping to watch UWE play their game for longer than one match :P

On a more serious note, someone should save an HTML version of the excel spreadsheet that gets updated after every match to show the current results, and host it on a website somewhere. Would be cool no?

Maybe its just cause i'm not keeping up with the tournament, but wasn't UWE originally supposed to go against Pub-Disturbance?
  • Megarith747Megarith747 Join Date: 2011-05-13 Member: 98585Members
Ah, please no, does pub.eu <i></i>really<i></i> have to play against HBZ?
Damn, I wanted us to get atleast in the second round :/

Apart from that, nice planning Hugh!

Most likely out of place, but I've played with a handful of the guys in this thread and I'm normally at the topish of the chart if anyone has seen me. Long story short, I'd love to play if any team has an opening.

Ok back to the discussion of the rules :). interesting ideas so far, I'd have to say as it stands however a kill and time based system seems to be the only way to tie break.

The team matchups were designed very carefully based on timezones and player availability, nothing else.

Also a heads up - This weekend I'll be making a big pass on the rules, organisation etc and contacting all team leaders to make sure we're all set to go come Friday next week. We're getting very close!

Hey NS2HD, were you going to film multiple perspectives for the tournament games? I could understand if you weren't going to, for the sake of getting the videos uploaded faster, but I think you should consider doing it for the final round. I've really enjoyed the multiple perspective clan matches you've uploaded so far, and I think it would make the final round even more exciting.
