Well I'm not sexist at all, I just have a different kind of humour. But this female marine stuff really shouldn't be a priority... it adds nothing to the game. I would have said the same if the beta was released with a female marine to begin with. I mean it's not a RPG where you roleplay your character, on top of that it's a shooter, this basically means out of 100 players you'll see 2 female players. Although it might attract more players because of boobs... but seriously, ahr... add them to... gor... well no. Just release them when the game somehow works fine (both technically and balancing wise), that's still months away however.

And I'd have to argue it'd add something in the realm of variety and polish. The black armor does help a bit in this area, but later it'd be nice to have a multiplayer shooter I play not get it's visual variety from silly hats. So while it's not a gameplay or performance priority which should come first, it'll add much needed polish later that will set it further apart in quality from other games.

Ahahahahaha, this discussion is actually happening. Look, implementing a female version of anything in any game is always lower on the priority list. Males are always considered first and default. Who woulda thunk. </thread>
Heh, the main problem I see with it is the hitbox though. Females are just not as bulky as males (most notably in video games! =p), and that pretty much is just an advantage. Maybe not so much in NS2, but still, you just can't slap the model on the same hitbox, let alone the animation and sounds of course... quite a big chunk of work. But whatever, Kalabalana you better spam /thread on your own topics... they mostly suck. =p

However, someone different worked on the male marine version, and the quality was much higher, and the armor also went through a redesign at that stage. So, that left the female marine model not matching the male version in both quality and armor design, which is why just the male version is in the game right now.

... and people wonder why game devs dont usually communicate with players much, need a whole room full of lawyers to ensure the dev doesnt accidently insult someone or imply something not intended.
It is perfectly understood that until the game is stable and running smooth with all the features implemented, details like model selection and other polish will be given due consideration later.

No, I believe, this is a dumb comment, and a stupid joke, and you sir, are not funny.
The only real problem is that female models tend to be slimmer (look at hl2 Alyx), giving the look that hitboxes are smaller (when they aren't), making more players use the female model to increase their chances of surviving. Is this a stupid comment?
Besides maybe lerk spikes and spit (both you'll likely just aim for their center), I rarely see too much precision needed in aiming as an alien, you bite/swipe in their general direction otherwise when in range. So I'd imagine the differences would be virtually non-existent. Not to mention it isn't like you're going for any specific location, you just want to hit them, no head shots necessary. I'd have to hear from the devs to be sure but I'd imagine they might use the same hitboxes.

When I played Tribes (awesome game, RIP) there was a male and female model; 90% of people played as the female (for the in-game player voice too) as it was more... fun :)

Maybe they were just trying to come across as someone who appears to be comfortable with their sexuality *cough* yeah right *cough*
im actually suprised no ones mentioned WoW on the subject of genders
I don't see a real problem with hitboxes, the armour they are using should be the same so they will be the same size. I cant imagine why the marines would construct different types of armour based on gender, as there would be no need for it. Armour is about being practical and usable.
you "only" have make the clothed areas slightly thinner, and add a new face / voice.
srspost: make the females a bit slighter, just a tad, but hitbox remains the same. Not like aiming in this game is precision based with headshots and whatnot. for the love of god dont give them "boob sockets" a real armorsmith would never create armor with booby slots in them cause that would just create unnecessary weak points in the armor.
either way I know UWE will make an awesome female marine :)

+1 for m+f models
+1 for a few different races (hopefully just simple textures)
+1 for UWE being BRILLIANTLY COOL!!
---
Would you spawn randomly like the previous or 'pick' your model/texture? Picking your 'avatar' would be natty!
Hey you could do a custom creator like City of Heroes ;). That shouldnt take max more than 20 mins to knock up, should it? ;)
But anyway, surely it'd be better to have the same hitboxes, even if the model differs in stature?
