Terrorist propaganda. This stalwart soldier proudly lays down his life in defense of the greatest empire mankind has ever known.

So because you realise that your "New Conglomerate" has not a single leg to stand on, you vilify the glorious and enduring Terran Republic by comparing them to a thuggish tyranny that has failed to withstand the test of time. A test the Republic has passed with flying colours. I would not expect different from a terrorist.

It stood the test so thoroughly that the instant there was a chance, a full 2/3 of the population of one of the republic's most important colonies rose up in open, organised military revolt. That's an amazing "glorious republic".

Why can't this topic just so silent until there's actually some developments on this?
It's just a tease topic right now suited only to those that were junkies of the original Planetside (which I, unfortunately, am not)...

sad face.

Manipulated, betrayed and brutally oppressed by a few pathologically dissatisfied miscreants and religious fanatics within the military. The violence and terrorism perpetrated by the New Conglomerate and "Vanu" Sovereignty only goes to show why mankind, a flawed and violent creature, NEEDS the guiding hand of the Terran Republic. The Terran Republic is an empire that has brought peace and prosperity to the human race for a thousand years; cut humans off from the main empire and two thirds of them degenerate into violent primates. That is an argument FOR the Republic, not against it, and it speaks of your ideological brainwashing that you can rail against the Republic even as you make the perfect argument for why you need it.

Sorry, I can't hear you over our making scientific progress benefiting the entire human race. Or we would be if it weren't for you thugs insisting on useless bureaucracy to the point that you'll kill anyone who disagrees.

Scientific progress? Benefitting the entire human race? Please. The Vanu made scientific progress - that's the aliens I'm talking about, not deluded humans who dress like fish. And trying to keep the technology you discovered (and that's discovered as in "found lying around," not "developed") entirely to yourselves doesn't count as "benefitting the entire human race." More like "benefitting a tiny sliver of the human race." That is not altruism, it is a power grab. A base attempt at overthrowing legitimate authority through armed force.

I jumped through all the hoops to get a BFR cert, took one out, and immediately got killed without doing any damage. Did it again. Then the third time I got *one kill* before I got destroyed.

Then I uncerted BFR and constantly denied that I'd ever had the cert in the first place.

Honestly, there wasn't much wrong with post-balance BFRs. The problem was that there was NO balancing before they were released, and the eventual changes took waaay too long to be implemented properly. The 2-man varients are basically just big tanks; the single-man varients were a monstrosity.

No, my Planetside rage was reserved mainly for the Thunderer. What's that? 1-shot infantry kills? With splash damage? And the ability to out-damage an MBT? With an APC? Sounds good to me! Conversely, the raider was the best thing ever. Sure it was also ridiculously powerful for an APC, but you needed five people to make it work.

In terms of firepower:manpower, you actually got more out of the regular Deliverer than the Raider. Get six people instead of five, load them into two Deliverers and you vastly outgunned a Raider. The Raider epitomized what was wrong with TR vehicle design. Prowler? Takes three people to man, other MBTs take two. Same for the Marauder (though at least the grenade launcher was pretty good for mowing down infantry). Raider took FIVE people instead of three. At 1.5/1.66x the manpower requirements of the other empires, TR vehicles simply didn't hold their own. Two Prowlers weren't the equivalent of three Vanguards. The Prowler outdamaged the Vanguard, but had lower armour, lower top speed, bigger falloff that made long-range shots more difficult to aim... rrrrg, everybody stop giving me reasons to rant and rage!

The prowler looked adorable in NC colours, though. Absolutely adorable.

The Vanguard looked BADASS in TR colours. But then so did mostly everything.

I was fantasizing about Planetside when I should have been trying to sleep, so tell me if this sounds stupid:

BFRs as land-bound weapons platforms (LWP? that sounds familiar somehow), a little like the Gunship. They would all take 1 driver and 2 or 3 gunners - one for each arm and one for the back when using the flightless variants (not sure how to fit 2 more people into the Vanu BFRs as they look now but the others could've been basically the same and work with this).
Each arm (and the back) could either have one big or two weaker weapons, so typically you'd put a Skyguard-like outfit on the back since it has 360 cover whereas the arms are still highly limited by the direction driver is taking you in. All gunners aim independently, other than that limitation. Oh and they get to pick the weapon loadout themselves when you're at a terminal.

I was going to make a pic to put here illustrating how a Colossus would look while standing on a hill aiming all in different directions, but got distracted by the idea of it looking like it was rocking out.

Yes but one of the TR's vehicle strong points is that the extra gunners can engage several targets at once. Its handy in a heated battle.
• lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
Or it'll just lead to damaging two targets rather than killing one.
