in an other thread they have converted or they will convert master chief from halo for ns!!
He's a little b!tch thats why. ctx, I say you go for it. You would have alot of fans of yours if you did convert them. email the model files to me if you do. I will host them for you. (aadrumma94@aol.com)
Look at all the other models in other mods that people have converted from other games, they didn't get sued or arrested now did they?
But anyways, i'm not the boss of Dirty_J...if I was...then..hmm..nevermind..jk heheh <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

The biggest issue here would be making sure to let everyone know, in the Readme, and everything else, that these models are the sole property of Fox, the company that made the game, and the publisher of the game. Fox, like any large company, wants to protect their creation, and they have the money to do so in a court. Most people are only doing it as a work of love, and will drop it. Not always good for the community, and may hurt Fox in those who see it happen, but it ultimately prevents you from receiving credit for their work, and/or making their product appear low quality. I assume you already wrote a letter to Fox, and if you have not yet received word back from them, I, personally, would simply post my work, when completed, and remove it if requested. Fox may nix the works of fans left and right, but they don't want to spend a single copper piece more than they need to. If they disapprove, you will receive a letter before any legal action is taken. If you refuse, then Fox gets billed by the minute by a crack team of expensive suits.
Saying that it can be edited in some small way, and be OK, or that Fox is too big to care si the wrong stance. Fox has shown time and time again that almost nothing is too small to escape their notice. And unless you are parodying their model, changing it in some small way does not elude the laws of intellectual property theft. It sounds scary, but in changing it intentionally, it would make it look as though you consciencely took their work, and attempted to re-make it enough to pawn it off as your own.
Again, the important thing to do here is make sure you properly and loudly credit the original creators, publishers, and copyright owners. Your decision to wait for Fox was a very mature one to make, however. I hope they respond to you soon.

On-Topic: Copyright/Intellectual Property is hard. If you've asked them and they haven't replied then I would assume it's OK, Send another letter to them, If they still don't reply then carry on. They cannot sue you if they don't reply and if they go to do legal action take it down and apologise.
Dirty why dont you start working on your work I doubt Fox will reply to you, and I wanna see some colonial marine modles for ns <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
