Really enjoying these recent posts talking about what goes into building NS2. Seems like we have a lot to look forward to with the NS2TR and of course NS2 itself.

looks great, i used to love those custom maps that featured light rail trams, it put a nice twist on the gameplay.

cant wait to see those kharaa concepts!

Great idea! Some dynamics to the maps! I think versions 2 or 3 are the best- certainly the most interesting. The idea of the rotating front/back so as to keep the floor level is a great idea- (maybe there could be some wires that the aliens could chomp on to sabotage it until a welder fixes it). Looks great, I look forward to the other concepts!

Used sparingly, I can see this being a neat feature. It would definitely make a map unique, but only insofar as it is properly integrated and not a mere gimmick.

I've got to echo the appreciation for your insight on concept work. Keep it coming!

Hey Flayra, can we build on it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> Mobile base that goes around the map would be amazing.

Wow, the concepts are really neat. If implemented carefully it could be a great addition to a map or two. Hope this won't end up like the now gone revolving door of bast. :p

Seriously though, this could be great fun if it comes with a great map design, and works with gameplay. I wonder how much this would cost in developmental time if it were to be made.

Nice one! Lucky this engine actually supports moving stuff in maps. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Yes! Good idea, rail #3 with this supported in sabotaging the rear wheel so that on certain heightchanges the rail will not be on cargolevel, hence everything on it could slip off. Therefore when it's sabotaged the marines have to hold onto something and then being unable to defend themselves (press "E" to hold onto a piece of railing on the side for example) otherwise they'll slide off. It can also be repaired by the marines, but this will make the cargo-cart prove to be risky and an advantage for the aliens if they do use this advantage.

Love these blogs, amazing artwork. Keep on going!

Another suggestion: how about that Bilebombs makes the ground slippery? I realized when looking on that image again that even if the ground is steep a marine should be able to stand on it still :S

Very nice idea, sending turrets down would be ace.

I like 6 the best, it just seems the most functional as the rest have so much going on. 5 Looks like a headcrab <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Being able to build on them would open up so many new tactics (depending on how the mapper has placed the rails, of course).

How about a comm chair on rails, with switchable tracks on the rails so that marines could guide the chair where they wanted?

Or a couple of IPs and an armoury on rails heading towards a hive?

An observatory to help you spot upcoming trouble.

Sounds great if this is possible (or let the mapper decide if it should be possible to build on a specific rail car, preferably with some indication for the player, if this turns out to be a bit biased in favour of marines).

Edit: A new game type where the marines have to escort an item on the rail car to a destination while the aliens try to stop them. Switchable tracks for different routes, etc. I could see this catching on in a similar way to siege maps.

    Another nice post
    #3 is my favorite.

These concepts are a great idea. There's so many possibilities for both the Marines and the Aliens for this to be used. Number 3 is the best I think out of all of them.

I officially recommend this as the equivalent to the NS1 scorpion that hovers without flapping.

Bring on the reign of the monorail cat.

    AMAZING!
    I think this game will very great and have cool feeling like the best sci-fi game(ns isnt a game , its a mod <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />) Aliens versus predator 1.
    Love it, reminds me on resident evil movie <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
    Keep more good artworks =)

I think the big question in regards to the monorail is:

Will marines be able to build bases on it?
Having a mobile platform for basebuilding might provide some interesting gameplay.

Very cool concept art. And the monorail system could be an interesting new element. I think I speak for everyone when I say: SHOW ME THE KHARAA

I like the idea of the rail too! But I imagine it would play better in custom maps like siege rather then the classics.
