    I swear the first custom model that I release for NS2 will be that monorail cat. Genius. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    Regarding image 4, I instantly thought this was the scenario:

    SOLDIER: Sarge, We are on a collision course with a Onos, we must stop!
    SERGEANT: No soldier, we will ram it.
    SOLDIER: This is Madness!
    SERGEANT (shouting) : NO! THIS IS NS!

    It reminds me why I love NS.

    Meanwhile the onos is probably saying something like "ahahah guys a bunch of marines are about to ram me on a train oh my god" over the mic in the voice of a 12 year old.

    I wonder if the Onos will be at all anything like the large Ant Lion in Half-Life 2...

    Also, I wonder if it will have other similarities, such as a colision that sends everyone involved flying...

    The last image does inspire thoughts of plenty of colision related fun!

    "Sir, why are we loading this mono rail up with explosive barrels?"
    "We have reports of a Onos in the tunnel, so pick up the pace grunt!"
    "Hoo boy..."

    I do not believe the Onos would be any match for the Monorailcat MKII.

    Awesome...back from vacation...and that was just an awesome finish to the collection.
    keep plugging guys I am very excited.

    looking at that picture made me realize we would have ragdolls in NS2.
    skulk & lerk...go flying
    fade ...similar to human
    gorge... roll over?? ( i always pictured them as heavier than they look )
    onos...crumple?

    I used Photoshp and a wacom drawing tablet to paint all of the concept pics.

    After carefully examining the three colour concept images, I believe I have discovered concrete evidence of a new race in NS2; teh cats. Please observe:

    <img src="http://teknews.net/~guspaz/NS2_RailCarRoom_cat.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

    In this image, you can plainly make out the shadow of a small cat lying on its back on a raised platform. This cat might potentially be used for scouting. The small size makes it difficult to locate and see (as is made apparent by the fact we see only the shadow), and a further defensive measure might be the "KITTY SO CUTE!" factor that is sure to distract the discovering marines while larger cats are called into action.

    I have taken the liberty of circling the entire shadow inside the larger red circle, and the two legs in the inner one.

    <img src="http://teknews.net/~guspaz/NS2_MoltenMetalRoom_cat.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

    And here is our first direct look at a cat, sitting on its haunches, observing from the shadows. From the size and camouflage, it would appear to be somewhat larger than a large housecat. Clearly this would be a low-end attacking type. It is seen here waiting in ambush, hidden from view. As soon as the marines passed by, I have no doubt it would attempt to sneak up from behind. This might perhaps be an analog of the skulk.

    <img src="http://teknews.net/~guspaz/NS2_Onos_vs_Railcar_cat.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

    In this image, you can see what must be one of the more advanced cat units. In this image, an enormous predatory cat with a head facing toward the right is obviously present behind onos. What's more, the cat appears to be CLOAKED, as is evidenced by the fact that the wall can be seen behind both the cat and the onos. Due to the enormous size of the cat (whose head and shoulders are enlarged in the image), it is obviously waiting for the inevitable collision, at which time it would attack the surviving party.

    I must admit, I'm extremely excited about this new third race in NS2. I look forward to finding more hints as to the capabilities of the cats in future concept art!

    excellent investigative work Guzpaz, producing iron-clad evidence that even the staunchest skeptic would struggle to debunk.

    no doubt in upcomming weeks we will get some sort of official press release from the UWE authorities, trying to pass this off as merely the light from venus refracting through nearby swamp gas, or something else just as ludicrous, but they can only delay further enquiries for so long.

    take notice flayra, the people demand the truth!

    Off course I cannot deny that this concept art is amazing.. However, I always feel that a monorail/train track is something that is 'up to the mappers'; not every map should (and will probably, because I don't think that it will play such a big role in the game) have a monorail.

    Like Cory said: the monorail is part of the local environment. While I think it's a great idea to have these monorails for an 'NS style', I think its up to the mappers to design the local population (who they were etc.) and this includes monorails. It wouldn't be logical to fly in a monorail from central monorails inc. but just buy one from the planet's main distributor. Of course it could be IKEA...

    I love the concepts and they are nice to see, I'm just wondering what kind of role these designs will play in the NS maps. But, if a train is going to be especially coded (including fysics etc.) then it would be logical to implement a standard train model.

    But again, good job!

    I am happy that you have found such a tantalizing development. I await this new race, but I am truly worried about it. . .

    The Cat leader, equivalent of the gorge or commander, is a cyborg or some type meta-human -perhaps to bond more freely with its comrades.
    I do not approve of this early declaration of victory.

    A monorail causes some map design problems.
    first it causes more long, STRAIGHT and wide corridors, generally a marine advantage.
    Secondly a phasegate makes the monorail obsolete, a monorail is NEVER defensive.
    -> Therefore a monorail either goes past ALL spawn points (or close to siege range) equally and is only offensive.

    If a monorail can be stopped it can be captured. Since monorails are more advantageous to marines than to aliens, who are fast anyways and need not to stick together as much, aliens highly tend to just capture the monorail car and park it near their base.
    -> therefore a monorail must not be stoppable or it must remote controllable.

    For obvious reasons I pledge that nothing can be build on any monorail and the whole track should be a nobuild zone, otherwise the car just would be too powerfull.
    Of course there should be a lot of space next to the monorail to build stuff so that nothing on the monorail could easily get past it.
    -> You should be able to build a base next to the monorail while standing on it but NEVER be able to build a base on the nonorail track or on the train.

    The train platform design is tricky, You either fall off it too easily or it is to hard to get on it.
    The train should neither be a fortress, nor a japanese "food on rails" buffet table that you can just pick up food from
    -> I think train doors or very simple knee high railings (that anything can jump over or crouch trough) are inevitable.
