One of the jokes in Russian from the game:

'A stalker is walking along in the zone and comes to a cross-roads. One sign reads 'This way lies little danger, but bad habar (slang for loot.). Another sign reads, 'This way lies danger but better habar. Finally, he reads the last sign and it says; 'This way lies complete safety, great habar, hot women and great drinks.'

The stalker ponders for a moment then takes the road from the second sign, thinking, 'What are women and drinks?'

    This game REALLY makes me wish I could speak Russian <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

I just wish they'd pick a language and stick with it. Either have everything in Russian with English subtitles (which wouldn't be a popular option I suspect), or everything in English. Or at the very least have subtitles for the Russian speech as an option.

Incidentally it just occured to me that this game has more rifles alone than half-life 2 has weapons. Neat.

    Bwhahaha,

    Another joke from the game.

Stalker 1: The experts keep saying that Radiation gets really bad the further you get near the old plant. Say it's dangerous to you. I haven't noticed any changes.

Stalker 2: Yeah, me either. My tail has started to shed though. (Or, in another version: Scales itch like hell, though.)

    Loving Stalker...

    Only things I don't like about it are the scary bits <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> Mutated things ftl....

One other thing, is there anywhere where I can get my armour repaired?? Guns are plentiful so switching to good-conditioned weaps isnt a problem. But armour is pretty rare... and it wears out quite fast if you are not being ultra careful.

    (also, thanks for the jokes cshank <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />)

hrm... The armour I picked up never fell below perfect condition, even after being blown up, shot, runing through electical anomalies etc. I bet that was a helpful game bug - are you using the patch?

For those searching a stalker outfit I noticed another place pretty early bit later then Faskalia described tho (that place was hard as hell to get to).

When you go underground for the first time and make it into the stalkers stash room, look behind the pipe you walk on as you enter the room, behind it is a lone crate, smash it with your knife and there you go.

Yep, thats also pretty easy. You can kill any NPC by stabbing them directly in the face, as long as said NPC has not his gun pointed at you.

That's weird, I tried jumping on the underground entrance to the strip but he never got a foothold so I assumed it was to thin. I jumped directly from the underground entrance to the roof, thus makeing it hard for myself apperently.

Well you CAN jump from the cellar entrance directly on the roof. But because fraps limits me to pretty much 20-25 fps and I am too lazy to change my video settings, I decided that going from the ladder to the ledge was easier to record ^^

I once killed to freedom armory guard and even the freedom leader, while his bodyguards were standing next to him, witheout anyone caring. The trick seems to be, to trigger the attack (knife stab) so that it would NOT hit, but then moving closer to the NPC, so it hits.
My guess would be, that the murder/assaulter flag is set, when the attack is triggered and not when it is performed.

I think I may have accidentally bypassed an area entirely.

    *SPOILERS*

<!--coloro:#000066--><span style="color:#000066"><!--/coloro-->You know the scientist dude you save, or CAN save in Rostock? He mentions he'll give you a scientist suit if you come to his lab near the lake at Yantar. You need the suit to get past the big patch of radiation outside of the dark valley, or at least I assume you do. I skipped this part completely, since I already had a SEVA suit from that family rifle mission the guy in the bar gives you, and supplimented it with some radiation reducing artifacts. I'll probably end up going there anyway in the end if just for the sake of it.<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->

    *END SPOILERS*

Does anyone happen to know if the patch fixes the whole bleeding bug thing or not?

I gave up on that one for the same reasons. It's just not worth doing anyway you don't get anything special out of it. Honestly - I wouldn't get hung up on trying not to fail missions, it actually means nothing if you do. You'll find all the same loot you get from them in the world itself and money will never be a problem for you.

e/ oh and Nil you're going to have to go there at some point to advance the main storyline so you can't really "bypass" any area - they are all required.

Yea that area is pretty vital, not to mention cool. The shader effects really remind me of the movie, with the whole discolouration thing.

Anyone else seen the film by Tarkovsky? Lucky I'm russian, so this game pwns 2x for me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Seems really unpolished- and so far it has than Oblivion-esque diluted gameplay where the ability to go anywhere kinda kills the atmosphere for me. Also, MP seems to be a joke- killer lag on the servers I've tried so far.

I'm willing to give it more time, though.

Had one comedy moment where 5 giant pigs were hunting a lone dog in a pack, the dog led them into an anamoly and everything died. The dog yelling "This is Sparta!!!" wouldn't have gone amiss. An honourable death.

Does anyone know if the bleeding bug is fixed by the patch or not? I'm getting REALLY annoyed with bleeding and want to equip some artifacts which will reduce the effect, but I don't know whether I actually want to be going for positive bleeding artifacts or negative bleeding artifacts. I honestly haven't noticed a difference with either +bleeding or -bleeding artifacts equipped though...

    Bleeding bug???

Do you mean the fact, that you could starve/bleed to death extremely quickly, when you hit the "time acceleration" button by accident? I think they removed the acceleraion feature completely from the game.

It was no real acceleration though, characters didnt move faster etc. It just speed things up internally. Like the day-night cycle, starving and such stuff.

No, I meant the bug where artifacts which are meant to decrease your rate of bleeding actually increase it and vice versa. I experimented a little by saving and then going to play with some zombies, first with a -100% bleeding artifact (i.e, should make you bleed more) and then with a +250% artifact (slug). It would seem the first patch does in fact fix the problem; from a single snork slash i'd bleed for only a second or two with the slug equipped, compared with three or four seconds without. I guess i'm keeping this one in my belt for a while <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

i just got this game the other day and spent most of yesterday running around in it. quite awesome.

i was running back to the first trader when i saw 3 stalkers about to do an assault on that first bandit camp at the factory which was continuously switching possession between bandits and stalkers, so theres dozens of bodies everywhere. well i decide to get in on the assault against the bandits.

one stalker runs up and stands next to the front archway while the other 2 go around back. the first one looks at me and moves his gun around in a circle. at first i was confused. i thought maybe he was bugging out, but then i realized that it looked like he was motioning me to go around the building. i nearly crapped myself after realizing that the AI had created a whole assault plan involving me so stop me if im giving the game too much credit, but it was quite awesome. so i hopped over fence and went around, then we all started attacking at roughly the same time and the factory was ours!

    im hooked.

has anyone else experienced something like this?
