I got around to seeing all of Monster that was available. It's pretty good for the first 20 or so episodes, but - while it's still pretty good - it just kind of drags on slower and slower after that. Maybe there's just a limit to how often I'm willing to see someone's eye open really wide and their iris and pupil get all beady...or it could just be that it gets slower and slower. Plus they somehow always get weird twists, that aren't always apparent to the audience, but for some reason we're supposed to be all surprised too because Tenma (or someone else) is all wide-eyed and horror stricken.
Yarrr, spoiler ahead
Johan's entire reason for going around and killing people/being all cruel is sort of retarded as well. He's just inherently evil without any redeeming qualities at all. We're supposed to feel bad for him because he takes his sister's memories/his Mom hands him away<i> possibly</i> because she can't tell the difference between him and his sister when he's wearing a dress. Last I checked, being an idiot isn't a valid reason for killing people (sure, it's all deeper than that and stuff, but his motives are just kind of obscene). Plus I don't recall any point at which they explain how he managed to get instructors and the children in the orphanage to start killing eachother. He just magically stared at them and then they started going crazy I guess.
It seemed like something that would have been better shot with live-action than actual anime. The only thing that's specifically anime-istic (or only possible with anime) is the obsessive amount of eye close-ups...and making Lunge/Runge look weird. The Japanese voice actors seem to have a rather difficult time pronouncing anyone's name except Tenma's many times as well (Especially L/Runge). Hopefully that minor rant isn't too off-putting for someone who hasn't seen it, it's still got some good parts.
Now, someone back there mentioned that Love Hina seems geared toward females, and with all the attempts at drawing females scantily clad/psuedo-promiscuis I'm going to have to disagree (also since the main character is a guy who's probably like much of the audience/like the main character in many male-oriented animes). Coincidentally, Azumanaga Daioh seems more gender neutral, but still cool because of all the comedy (subtitled version I saw had all the cool little cultural notes in it too, so you get to see the puns and such, but my favorite is still Mutsumi's quip about Kitsune's name on the date with Keitaro (although the particular episode eludes me).
The barrage of Japanese that I've been hearing lately leads me to believe it would be a rather easy language to decipher through listening, but a fairly annoying language to read or write; especially since I can't seem to find a readily available source for deciphering kanji/the other crazy phonetic alphabet(...s?). The kanji just seems especially troublesome in my mind, because it seems like the only way you'd be able to pronounce it is by remembering the sound associated with each symbol (and while every written language works that way, English only has 26 letters, which only form so many prononunciation variations). Then I obviously have no functioning knowledge of Japanese, so feel free to point me in a less wayward direction.
Aside from that ...aside...what's with everyone listing off animes? How about you describe whether you liked them or didn't like them instead of creating a page of useless titles?
I have also seen Inu Yasha before, but I just got bored because they did the same thing every episode, and apparently there were millions upon millions of those crystal shards, because for the pile of episodes I did watch they never seemed to ever be able to complete it - no matter how close they came. Plus there was the whole Kagome/Kikyo thing that I just didn't find all that interesting.

No, (IMO) if the series is going to go down hill, it'll be because Nanoha and the others are no longer the main characters<i>(Well, it seems like they're not going to be the main characters at all)</i> and the fact that Nanoha is no longer the cute lovable 9 year old girl and now she is nearly twenty years old!
Anyone, I haven't read the manga of Nanoha A's to StrikerS yet, but from the descriptions of the new characters it sounds like they'll be the new main characters and Nanoha would be just a mentor to the new mages.
I made a few posts on animesuki forums explaining why and some comparisons with other series which also replace their main characters with new characters, I'll have to dig for it later though.
I know I'm slow but I finally saw <a href="http://The_Melancholy_of_Haruhi_Suzumiya" target="_blank">Spirited Away</a> today and found it to be pretty good. Characters with stupid names (maybe the writers just mispelled "Nataly" when they wrote "Nanaly" into the script...), unrealistic, boring, run of the mill anime character design, largely unexplained plot leaves it to the viewer to just extrapolate what's going on, nonexistant motives for main character.. what the hell is going on in this show? The latest two series I finished were Samurai Champloo and FLCL, both of which I enjoyed in their entirety. I don't know where to start next, and I'm scared to download another 5gb torrent and just have to delete it again.
GTO, how could this have not come up in the thread yet?
Great Teacher Onizuka is my all time favorite. The character development is rather impressive. Basically, he takes control of a class of kids that are, at the beginning, out to disown and practically kill him. He is relatively stupid, almost fitting the dumb male lead at first glance. However the series shows that he follows justice. The visuals on it are not bad, the art for some of his facial expressions looks weird at times, however this is the intended effect and it does fit. The character I enjoyed the most is the opposite of a dumb blond, Urumi Kanzaki. A genius child, and with very convincing character development that really impressed me. The Wikipedia entry for GTO is great at covering the basic premise and does not spoil the plot. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Teacher_Onizuka" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Teacher_Onizuka</a>
The only critique of the series I have agreed with is that the ending could be less open ended. There is some inconsistency between episodes that makes it episodic but character development stays consistent. In short, if you are searching for an Anime to try, this is a great one to get. I recommend the Japanese audio with subtitles, because the voices actors did great. I will not comment on the English audio because I watched the Japanese first and after you listen to it one way no matter how decent or bad the other way is it just sounds wrong. There is no major romantic overtones, it is comedy and probably drama but I am not good at categorizing.

(Not related to GTO in any way.)
I watched "Samurai X" on tv several years ago and didn't have a problem with the voice actor. Recently I decided to rewatch the series, but indecisive on getting subs or dubs, I read some comments first. Appearantly Kenshin "sounded homo" (the other word would probably get blanked) in the japanese version. Indecisive, I downloaded episode 1-5 (or so) with dual audio. I switched several times in the eps, but sticked with the japanese eventually :/
Meh, It's probably because I dispise dubs though <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

On a COMPLETELY unrelated note except for the everlasting subs-dubs war, I have to disagree with you.

Well thats because he was voiced by a woman ;D
On top of which, his character is supposed to be schizophrenic, anyways <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Btw, Shinji from Evangelion was also voiced by a woman in the JP voice over.
I just finished the first episode of Code Geass and I really find it hard to imagine liking any more of it. I might just delete the rest. I expected political intrigue and mech combat, and what I got was 2 mins of robot fights and 20 minutes of crap. Sturgeon's Revelation is painfully correct, as usual.

What the hell is wrong with you? You expect the first episode to explain everything? And you're basing whole series on the first episode?
I am currently watching Ghost in the Shell, SAC2, after finishing the first season. All I can say is that it's awesome, and I regret not having watched it earlier. Action, character development, plot, political intrigue, cute mascots - it's got it all.

I watched the first ~10 eps of the first season and got bored. I did that twice. :/

That's a bad excuse to make him stupid sound, "fitting."

If it doesn't grab you in the beginning, why give it a second chance?

The first episode of Haruhi was kinda strange but it ended up being a great series and after continuing to watch it, the first episode made sense. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

I absolutely loved the first episode of Haruhi when i first saw it. Maybe thats just because i enjoy parody and obscure references <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
This season, i'm loving Kanon (2006) and can't wait for the last episode (coming this week). I don't really have time to watch much more than that.
