To Flay: Skulk Bite Removal And How To Stop It

i was wondering how does stopping it work? i've met lots of people in clans that use it...in my clan there's 2..i've talked them out of it by saying that you said that you consider it a cheat..but the others? you can't block console cause then rcon goes away, so how did/are you going to fix this?

    He'll probably just lock the command to the 'on' position. Hard code it into the next cliant update.

    I presume your talking about removing the skulks teeth animation, and not the actual bite effect <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I believe this is an actual variable in the HL engine, when set dosn't render the players v_ models. Some people find this useful, personally I feel silly shooting something out of thin air. It can increase FPS, but if you have that crappy of a system that it makes a big difference, well <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I don't think it was ever a problem up until now, since the skulk's and lerk's bite animation covers your screen for about 1/1000th of a second. I mean, good god, think of all the things that could happen in that time! Its an eternity!

    Thats just newbisim, or self-elitisim. If you want it off, that fine, I don't consider it a exploit or cheat. I've gotten so I don't even notice the bite animation anymore, and I love the look of the teeth. It just takes practice and getting used to a different style of play.

    Granted, when your typical newb first jumps into the game, and plays skulk, their probably going to have a bit of a row trying to accurately hit a TSA every time. Removing the bite animation is just the easy way out, you wuss <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> Most of the weapons and play styles in NS are not "Jump in and play", they all take time to learn and master. A bit of a strike against NS I suppose, but I think it makes the game 10X better for it.

    most people just do the r_view command so it you lock that to 1 then and lock the animation then we should be set.

    I wish people could learn how to deal with that. I mean it's only closed for like a 1/2 second. It's not much of a distraction at all. I can still take out 2+ guys in a row as a skulk and I did so on a game last night where I was aliens first and we won, then became marines and won as marines hehe. I was like the "veteran" of the server. The veteran from the war movie where his team are just full of recruits. Raked up some good kills, only died like 3-5 times (by a fades and skulks), but at the end I was like "We took al 3 hives already?"

    Anyways..back on course. It's not a problem, I like it..looks cool..feels "odd" at times by the fact that u are looking OUT or a creatures mouth lol.

    But just try your best to deal with it.

    Honestly, it messes me up. My first bite is always on target, but a lot of times, I get "lost" during the successive bites. Is there a trick to biting without turning off the animation? I thought it would be to not bite as fast, but that would slow down your kill....

    there are already first-person replacement models with permanently open teeth

    I have same problem

    first bite is on
    next bites are lost.....or lucky
    i don't know if i got him until i see the obituary on the right

    maybe if we got blood on teeth when we hit :-)

    either way i'll still play

    so cool dropping from ceiling and biting someone and watch them run backward shooting all over the place

    Hmm yes, as much as i agree with removing teeth being a cheat, Twex does have a point. There are many people trying to mess up the way the mod is intended to be played with scripts, models and sprites. My only relief is that if you use any of these and r_drawviewmodel 0 in a CAL match or clan match will get you disqualified.

    Im sure flayra can think of something if he deems this is worth the effort.

    You can also not hold down the attack button and only bite when you'll hit. When you run up to a marine, don't bite till you see the whites of his eyes. If he doesn't die by the time you pass him, <i>stop attacking</i> and reorient yourself. Takes all of half a second to do and is much easier on the adrenaline.

    Because of where and how I usually play, I just run in wild circles and figure 8s avoiding enemy fire while biting constantly. I don't kill a marine every two bites, but I know that if I tried to figure out where my target was for even a fraction of a second they'ld train their guns on me and I'ld be dead anyway.

    I don't find it too difficult its alrite sometimes i get lost but i dont just hold down and chomp like a monkey i actually see where the marine is then strike

    I actually tried this and it sucked.......I did even worse as a skulk ´cause i´m used to the teeth animation.

    Actually, i kinda liked the skulk bite animation, cool idea. But really, i think i like the marines the best. Heavy armor and a HMG is the best! (Well at least if your on the marines).

    Turning that variable off works, and gives you a minor FPS boost. It removes the weapons, not only for the aliens, but also for the marines (no more huge screen-filling muzzle flash). It also has disadvantages: you lose hivesight (aliens), the command map and waypoints (marines). It can also be toggled when playing, the perfect setup would probably be (but don't ask me how to do it, I'm not a pro scripter) that it automatically turns off only when you fire.
    But AFAIK, using custom models would be a far better solution anyway (can remove all annoying bits, while retaining the useful stuff you'd lose with r_draw...), so I don't see why you'd bother to remove this.

    Hmm. I know that I'm gonna be called a cheater and whatnot for this, but I have a 5 button mouse... I have the left side button set to hide the models and the right side button set to show them. But you know what? It's silly that you see the animation from the inside of the skulk's mouth, when it's eyes are on the outside of it's head. Balance issue it may be, it's nonsensical.

    Another thing... You lose hivesight, energy and resource meters, current active hives, and a tooltips with models disabled... though that can be very helpful when you are blinded by 50 blips and can't see a damn thing when you're trying to do some accurate long-range attacks.

    You're right, you're a cheater. The devs had said that removing the model is not an option they want people to have so just stop. Instead of just looking for an easy way out, practice a bit or adjust your play style.

    Play the Mod as it has been created or join a special server that say "Cheat or Mod" in the title and any server ops running altered NS server should label them as such.

Turns out that NS grabbed my config out of the valve folder, and thats where I have it turned off. I had to write a cfg for NS that turns it back on.

    Quite frankly, I wouldn't play without it....why....because it's COOL! The dude even picks his teeth! How badass is THAT?! Oh, not to mention that Hive site is indespensable and if you ain't got it, your WAY behind. When the Hive says "Resource Tower Under Attack", you can either GUESS where it is, or KNOW where it is, take your pick.

    Personally, if some igmo wants to cripple his ability to play, I say let the re-re shoot himself in the foot. I'll be parasited and he STILL won't see me creepin in the shadows. Fine by me.

    The best way to kill as a skulk: always jump when you are going to bite, helps a lot being on high ground to watch the marine directly, instead of trying to chomp his feet while he is jumping....
    When you have 2 hives, use leap+bite midair combo.... no scripting, scripts suck you cant even turn in mid air and the bite its way too fast for the leap, usually with leap+bite scripts, you miss the bite, my suggestion is, aim for the marine, leap, change to bite, when you are in direct contact with marine armor CHOMP then leap away again, and repeat process, another good way of doing it is leapin from the corridor, chompin in air, leapin into ceiling and droping on marine´s head, and eating all his brain... mwhahahah =D

    Definitely...The best tip I can give you is be sneaky and dont attack a marine from the front, unless he is a total noobi.

    well once its hardcoded into the game, u won't be able to switch it on.

    plus i think the skulk bite model should be locked, i don't see many legal ways of changing it...

    exactly ... when people begin to use it in this way is when it becomes a "true" exploit, it isn't being removed to increase FPS or anything like that, it is being removed purely to make it easier to bite people
