The fillers in Naruto is over every week...

I used to watch bleach. however, i stopped. The storyline begun to look like the one in Naruto I ran away in fear from. Fillers are so depressing... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

    Currently watching:
    Code Geass
    Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou
    Chevalier d'Eon
    Eureka 7

I'm actually backlogged on all of them, because I don't really have the time to sit down and watch them all.

Please do watch it again, the main story just started again and the overall quality of it has gone up a notch.

    Code Geass is surprisingly refreshing.
I don't bother watching Bleach and Naruto though... they have manga.

My most anticipated anime of 2007 however is this <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkSmbVoP8Go" target="_blank">one</a>

    Interesting thread.

I have recently been having that feeling again to watch japanese anims or the likes. I used to watch a few 20 years ago (yea 20 years ago since I am now 43). The first one I ever watched was Robotech. I saw the first 3 volumes on TV and I didn't have cable then. By the way, why do people refer to it as Macross ?

But for the past 3 months, there's this channel I started watching more ever since they started showing some anims. It got me hooked again. They are showing Eureka-7, Full metal alchimist and Bleach. These 3 realy got me hooked on. I don't have much backgrounds in anim shows like you do and haven't watched as many as you did but since this type of media is more freely available (meaning bittorrent), it helped to awaken my interest. I downloaded episodes 50-70 of Bleach (which I could download more but I have a montly download limit). Not having much money, using bittorrent is a good alternative for my case.

The anims I like even more are the ones that have moments to make you feel sad, upset or just laphing (english isnt my native language, sorry). Those 3 shows do this. I hate anims/shows where things don't make sense, where the story is too slow (3 episodes just to understand a 5 min situations), where you have too much talking (ore more like explanations).

I am following Naruto on that TV (YTV channel) but I am not hooked enough on it to download/buy it.

If I ha the money for it, I would buy all the anims I want. The only ways for me to get anims is borrow it from friends (don't know of any) or downloading it (takes for ever and too big of downloads). I don't have the money to buy specialy channels, go buy DVDs or increase my internet package.

I have never seen an anim from beginning to end. THere was always something to prevent me from doing it (either the TV channel canceling it or me missing too many episodes).

Last weekend, I discovered Hellsing over Nullsuft but it only had like 13 episodes. Nice one. Would be interested to see it all.

I had once saw a few episodes of .hack//sign on that TV channel but it got pulled off. Would be interested to see it all.

There are so many anims out there that I don't even know off. I wish I had some means of find out about them and seeing if it is worth for me to watch them. Any related links ?

Also, since the majority of freely available anims are in japanese with subtitles, it kinda got me interested into learning japanese to catch all the essence of those anims because I feel that some of that essence is lost in translations.

About the question about why ppl refer to Macross than Robotech - You have to actually know whats the real difference between them first, then it would explain the question <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Just read the "short" wikipedia article about Robotech and Macross, but other than that, I could try to explain it.

Robotech, back in the 80s, was more of an "americanized" Version of the original japanese version of the anime Macross. First off, I think the names were not easy to pronounce so they changed that too. Oh yeah, they, refering to the company Harmony Gold and their Producer, Carl Macek, remade or re-edited it and syndicated it for american tv.

I also think that the Robotech is a less adult/violent version than the original Macross (aka Maaaaa-kuuuu-rosssé), hardly any blood, some deaths - Some remember it as some kinky love story/boring soap opera in space.
So, back then, we kids knew it as Robotech. Likely grown-up now, we've seen Macross and go "ahhh, cool" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

The characters from Robotech do develop different, other than the original Macross movie.

In Macross, you just see more action, starting with VOLLEYS of missiles being tossed

I'm sorry that I can't recall everything, I really suggest reading both wiki articles.

Now one may say both just deal with some babe at the end singing around and all the aliens go "We surrender" - but don't take it like that.

One interesting fact about Macross, was the movie "Macross: Do You Remember Love" (DYRL), the action, the SCIFI stuff and the animation was unique and dark - LONG before StarTrek Next Generation. Yeah, StarWars 's been around at the 70s, but that was something else.
I assume many fans, like me, love the mecha action.

I forgot to say that Macross itself also had its own series of episodes and one said this film is a crunched-together version with a slightly different story arc.
Sorry for the big post ^^

Now to get back on topic, I really suggest watching Macross DYRL, the ol' 1985 version, in japanese with english subtitles. The music and intro at the beginning is cool.

    Some youtube stuff
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ucto8Kd6XoE" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ucto8Kd6XoE</a>
    (no sound unfortunately)

    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGFLWpGyIB0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGFLWpGyIB0</a>
(first 15mins of Macross Do you remember love, should give a taste for those who are interested. Recommended to watch <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> )

I don't know if anybody will like it, but hell, I sure did. Those who like Homeworld, the game, and its plot, s h o u l d like this one.

    Here's the deal.

Robotech got some horrible Americanized song ("It's my turn to be the star" looping 20 thousand times)and incomprehensible plot.

    Macross got <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pidwnQEDZ8g" target="_blank">these</a> for <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oX2zIMyx0Dc&mode=related&search=" target="_blank">songs</a>, and it doesn't have robotechnology junk.

What may also be interesting about the music is that it has a mix of classic instruments like horns and e-gitarres and groovie e-bass and stuff like that too. Just a side note.

like what i said, FMA has a different ending than that of the original comic version which has not come to an end yet. and the end doesnt seem to be reasonable at all.

I haven't watched any of Naruto but I can assure you that FMA has a lot of depth and intrigue. That and it has a solid, concrete ending at the end of the single series and didn't drag on for sixty three billion episodes.

Well the lack of an ending in naruto isn't really a problem... I don't really hate cliffhanger anime's... They are pretty common anyways...

Best Ending Awards go to: Bebop, Lain, Renmei.

On that note, let's make fun of Fullmetal some more because the last episode (and movie) had everyone voluntarily placing themselves on the wrong side of the border. Oh, Last Exile and Noir. I loved them up until the last (two, six) episodes. Then we had to deal with (ohcrapIforgottoputaplotinhereYOUGUYSSAVETHEWORLDANDEVERYTHINGISGOODOKAY WHEEEEEEEEEEEE... DONE! and EVERYONE IS TRYING TO KILL YOU AND NOW THERE ARE FREAKING NINJA-NUNS WITH GOLD-PLATED GUNS!)
