Tax Free Weekend?

UnderDOGUnderDOG Join Date: 2003-04-05 Member: 15221Members

is this real?
One of my female friends just informed me that she has been shopping all day because for some reason she claims it is a "tax free weekend". Does this mean there is no sales tax this weekend for whatever reason? Is this a country wide thing, or just in Missouri, or Saint Louis, and why have I never heard of this?

They have it here (in Florida, my county) for one week or so, a few weeks before school starts and only on certain items.

I believe it's just the store pays the sales tax for you.

I guess it would depend on where you live. Still, people generally don't do the research to find this out, such as here.

No sales tax on non-consumable items. There still is on food.

Wait... So if I want to buy a new Ferrari in Minnesota because I've grown tired of my other thirteen, the state doesn't want my money, but if I need to buy some spaghetti to feed my family with, the state will gladly take an extra coin out of my pocket?
    Appalling.

Here in Ontario, we pay 15% tax on everything year-round (except food I think). My what a tax it is, but...

    I love free health care!

There is a luxury tax on all vechiles deemed as such, I'd also like to point out, that not every place in minnesota is the same for sales tax. It is left up to the local government what they want to tax when it comes to sales. Even if you don't pay a tax on it, chances are there will be a higher price then without said tax. Which means the stores must be having to pay their property taxes, which are probably higher thanks to no sales tax.

    Mall of America for example.

    8 cents CWAG.

And like the numbers matter to our female customers and their uncontrollable desire to buy more shoes.
