Tax Free Weekend?

is this real?
One of my female friends just informed me that she has been shopping all day because for some reason she claims it is a "tax free weekend". Does this mean there is no sales tax this weekend for whatever reason? Is this a country wide thing, or just in Missouri, or Saint Louis, and why have I never heard of this?

Quiet you! The ignorant masses must not be alerted to our attempt at a Duty Free state for 3 days.

How could you possibly miss it? It's plastered all over every doorway in every store in the state...
(not that I live there, I just know of it)

No sales tax on non-consumable items. There still is on food.

There is a luxury tax on all vechiles deemed as such, I'd also like to point out, that not every place in minnesota is the same for sales tax. It is left up to the local government what they want to tax when it comes to sales. Even if you don't pay a tax on it, chances are there will be a higher price then without said tax. Which means the stores must be having to pay their property taxes, which are probably higher thanks to no sales tax.
Mall of America for example.
8 cents CWAG.
And like the numbers matter to our female customers and their uncontrollable desire to buy more shoes.
